When RIM purchased QNX from Harman International, they didn't just purchase the bit and pieces that their next operating system would be built on. No, they purchased a full-fledged business that has been active in numerous sectors since it began in 1980 and to this day, is still continuing to grow each year.

The QNX CAR 2 application platform covers the vehicle infotainment sector has now been recognized as a International CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree, in the Software & Mobile Apps category. If you're not familiar with the awards, in order to be considered, a product needs to demonstrate innovative design and engineering and judges have now determined the QNX CAR 2 platforms fits in nicely there.

“This has been a tremendous year for us, especially for the QNX CAR 2 application platform, which has seen exceptional validation from the automotive community,” said Derek Kuhn, vice president, sales and marketing, QNX Software Systems. “We look forward to continuing this momentum throughout 2013, and the CES Innovations Design and Engineering award is a great way to start the new year.”

To celebrate, you'll be able to check out the QNX CAR 2 application platform at CES Unveiled on January 6th in addition to the other exhibits that can be viewed when CES 2013 fully kicks off in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
