Despite the fact that CES 2012 doesn't officially kick off until Tuesday, things are already in full swing with press releases and plenty of announcements already being passed out. Monday, for RIM was a day of setup with them letting folks know what to expect in the days ahead and from looking at their information thus far we'll have a fair amount to talk about:

You'll want to stay tuned to CrackBerry for all your BlackBerry @ CES coverage as we'll have plenty of hands-on and interviews coming from the showroom floor plus, we have a few podcasts lined up as well -- ones you won't want to miss.

Great -.1 and counting first day. ..... First .
A Prediction, watch for RIM to complete their turn around this year. Starting with bringing products to market on time.

They don't even have a phone to showcase. The only reason they are getting away this time is because CES is not what it used to be and the competitors don't even care much anymore.

Delivering functions that they should have included before they sold the products last year is not a good sign.

If RIM wants to turn around the entire situation, they genuinely need to rethink their entire strategy, and if necessary, abandon BB7 completely and pour in all their resources into BB10.

I think people will be more forgiving to RIM if BB10 is launched with at least a complete set of modern smartphone functions, but having both the QNX and the BB platforms in their current functions lacking stage, or shall I say incomplete form comparing to other competing platforms, is just going to end RIM.

People were really expecting to buy BB10 about now, releasing BB7 functions at this point is less helpful than pouring in the resources in the QNX development.

I completely agree with you. All those 9900 delays last summer make sense now - even BB7 wasn't ready with the expected features to compete, so they released a paired down version (7.0) and only now are managing to squeak out the originally planned for Q2 2011 OS (7.1). So just how far behind are they?!? VERY.

El Platanero

Abandon BB7? I'm going to stay as respectful as I can. Your comment makes no sense. How do you abandon the platform that is paying the bills now to support the future platform. BB7 is keeping the lights on and the water running, and not to mention, keeping me happy until they show me something better.

If you can't wait until they come out with the new platform then have at it and move on but to make such an rediculous comment is borderline insulting to the phone that I have on my holster right now.

JackKennedy

Well, you may be happy with BB7, but certainly a lot of people aren't. It may be "keeping you happy" but certainly very behind and keeping a lot of people not happy.

There's just absolutely no way to please people with an obsolete os regardless of how much effort you put in. Every resource they put in BB7 is a minute lost on QNX.

A lot of people would be very forgiving if RIM shows us sign that they are pouring every single resource possible into QNX and getting it as ready and competitive as possible. A lot of us sees the BB7 as an interim device as we have been expecting a BB10 phone for a very long time and sees BB7 as nothing more than BB6.1.

I'm liking what I've been hearing so far. More than I actually expected! +Plus I just received my official Verizon Wireless OS 7.1 update as we speAk. Can't wait to try out a little NFC magic! #TeamBlackBerry

Hello @bldshd,

Ty from RIM here. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the goodies we’re unveiling from CES. We just posted a new video to our Inside BlackBerry Blog (http://bbry.lv/A42wAO) that dives into the rich communications experience that the PlayBook 2.0 update will deliver.

Stay tuned for more #TeamBlackBerry excitement coming from CES this week, and enjoy the new features of OS 7.1! If you have any questions, check out this post for the full scoop: http://bbry.lv/yo5hWU.

Cheers,
Ty, RIM Social Media Team

Thta's really is very positive and refreshing start for RIM this year. Can't wait to see Native email apps on playbook.

I just read an article on CNN.com titled 5 Gadget Trends to watch at CES. I did not see RIM or BlackBerry or the Playbook mentioned. I think someone from the RIM booth should go to the CNN booth and give them a live demonstration. Let them see for themselfs what it can do, and not fall favor to all the misinformation out there.

123berryaddicted

You obviously haven't looked very long at the competition. There's good reason why the feature rich Android OS is #1 in the world, and why the simply to use iOS is #2

CNN would probably laugh if RIM did this - "thanks but no thanks RIM, we knew your products existed, they just didn't make the cut, sorry - better luck next time"

grimreaper420

excellent job RIM keep us with the releases and updates u just may turn things around for 2012!!

RIM needs start their "motion" and forget about all the bad press. People won't change their mind anytime soon. I love my PlayBook and my BB, but that's just me and these are my two cents.

jhspears

If RIM really wants to generate some buzz, they should surprise the consumers and release the BB Playbook OS today or sometime this week! That would really get the new year rolling for RIM!

123berryaddicted

This is true. THAT would do wonders for them! But they won't do that... Cause it... Along with EVERYthing else they're working on... Just simply isn't ready.

dynot

Nothing much here really. The same drivel about PB 2.0, some OS 7 news, and a bunch of software updates. Hope they step it up in the remaining days.

pfe1223

I for one really like the updates. RIM has set the expectations pretty low with regards to hardware releases in 2012. That leaves software. We know that much work will go into the PlayBook OS. However, the best that current RIM OS7 users can expect are more updates. I've played around with the Local Scout app (local search from MS) on Windows Phone, and I was impressed. I am not sure what the interface will be like on BB, but this could be a huge boost. The same for voice navigation in BB Traffic. These two software updates help to transform BB from a communication first device into devices that fit our various needs (search, directions, etc.). Does this make up for the recent slew of missteps by RIM. Of course not, but I like what I am seeing.

I don't understand why so many people complain of what they are reading about. The biggest problem is our biggest strength which is we are usually ahead of the game on Blackberry information because of Crackberry. We already knew that RIM wasn't going to promote BB10. It is a bad business decision to promote an OS that won't come out until later this year and they already have some great phones out now that deserve some attention now.

For those of you that chose to wait for the bb10 phones you were warned ahead of time. Not even by Crackberry itself but by Crackberry visitors saying that there is no way that the. Phone was coming out early 2012. You chose not to listen and sat back on a disappointment. You guys really need to give the new Bold a try. Trust me when I say that RIM is going to have to wow me in order to pry this phone from my hands. It is truly apazing.

Yes. It is truly amazing - agreed. Love my 9900
