Carnival of Souls on your BlackBerry

Looking for something to read on your BlackBerry this weekend? Like crazy screwed up clowns? If so, you'd better crack open App World and download the free Chapter 1 preview of Jazan Wild's Carnival of Souls. With this app it seems Carnival Comics has won the honor of being the first company to list a comic book in App World (click here to read an article from today where Carnival's VP, Sharon Levesque-Barnes, talks about the new age of comic apps).

I won't make any comments about the comic itself (read it!), but there are a few things to point out about the application. First, for a BlackBery app it's big! Nearly 3 megs. So you'll be wanting to delete it once you're done 'flipping' through the pages. Second, it's not very touchscreen friendly just yet. I initially downloaded it for my Storm, but found at first it was messed (keyboard locked as showing and no way to advance through the pages) and after disabling compatibility mode found I still had no way to move through the pages though at least now it was showing full screen. On my Curve 8900 the experience was solid. I like comic books... I love my BlackBerry. Louie, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

I don't know if it was the download or the thing that ate my battery, probably the former.
Nice idea though, I'd like to see much more of this sort of thing.

No sideview for the STORM.. lame

The side view would make the text to small to read. Full view rules. Love it! Great Story!

Looked great, till I put it on my Storm. Can't be viewed full screen. Too bad, since it looks great otherwise.

After hearing some of your feedback, we have decided to make this app for the Bold and Curve only. We will come out with a Storm version as soon as we can. This is new territory for all developers. Blackberry is a little more challenging being that it's phones are more diverse. So we ask for your patience while we work hard to give you the best! Thanks, Carnival Comics

I'm glad to see you guys respond so quickly, and I anxiously await the release of a storm version of your comic!!! I love the fact that the BlackBerry community is tight, and you prove that by keeping us informed,....thanks!!!

is it part of a much larger story line. I found it very interesting and would like to see other installments.

One issue however, but nothing to do with Carnival Comics.. when I went to uninstall it via the App Store uninstall radio button I got error messages and it would not uninstall... I had to go into Advanced Applications and uninstall it that way.

The rendering on the Bold screen is pretty fantastic... real HD. We need much more of that. Not enough developers are taking full advantage of the Bold's capabilities in that regard.

most of these themes have to much going on and take up way to much memory.

By: cpuking2009 | Date: Sat, 04/18/2009 - 17:26

what theme are you talking about? you know this is a comic book app right?

Thank you all so much for the great feedback on our App. We will have the first three full comic books up as soon as we can find a way to make them small enough to download, as well as keeping the great quality. We also have another series, Funhouse Of Horrors that we plan to put on as well. Your overwhelming support has been nothing short of fantastic! Sharon

I've never been a big comic fan. I kinda jumped on the bandwagon a bit with Watchmen. This is amazing!! I love how crisp the graphics are on my Bold. I SO WISH we could save to the memory card though, as I'll have to delete after reading :( Oh well, can't have everything.

Can someone advise what is a suitable memory level to maintain with the Bold, and the difference between "Application Memory" and "Device Memory?" Thanks!!
