As a BlackBerry 10 user, we are always looking for ways to get more functionality for our Pebble Smartwatch. In the not so distant past, I discovered a jack of all trades application for Talk2Watch called Smart Watch Companion which delivered additional notifications and features that had not been previously available to Pebble owners.

This latest update now grants BlackBerry Pebble users the ability to capture images with a simple press of a button on their smartwatch, the option to add three user defined RSS feeds, UI tweaks and more. The full change log is listed below.

Smart Watch Companion Change Log v1.1

  • UI Tweaks
  • Bug fixes
  • Script mode remote camera trigger
  • Create recharge watch calendar event
  • 3 new user customizable RSS feeds
  • More Authenticator options
  • Authenticator secret keys now scannable via provider issued qr barcodes
  • Cricket Scores
  • Plex Media Center Controller

If you are not familiar already with Smart Watch Companion, it is a jack of all trades Pebble application that makes use of the existing BlackBerry pebble application Talk2Watch. In order for all features to be accessible, the installation of this application is required, preferable Talk2Watch Pro, as well as the latest version of the Pebble software in order for script mode to function properly. It provides detailed weather forecasts, London Underground Tube alerts, Google and LastPass Authenticator Codes (as well as other sites), RSS News information for predefined sites, Bitcoin/Litecoin/Stock quotes, Alarms, and other BlackBerry social features to make sure you get the most out of your Pebble.

Our full walk-through guides you through all of these capabilities and takes you through the steps of using Script Mode on your Pebble that now includes the camera trigger. SWC is for OS 10.2.1 and supports all BlackBerry 10 devices. This is a great application to own, especially with the remote camera shutter in script mode and Plex Remote, and worth the $2.99 price tag.
