I have heard of this for the iPhone. I talked with my buddy about it, as he own an iPhone and he stated that he feels that it is pointless. I think that it is rather interesting and it would be way easier to send pictures and swap contacts then SMSing em over.

I'm not sure about this for paypal....seems like an interesting app though...I don't know

I would think if the vending machine industry would allow credit card usage to buy cokes and bags of chips, that this would be the next inovation. Just select your purchase and select payment as paypal. Setup paypal and bump your device in a selected area of the machine. Dispensing your snack.

This could also work in a fast paced food environment where you could use a service like RFID Master Cards.

My first thought was that this might be similar to blink that's used in credit cards...but it's not...much worse.

both users have to initiate a bump...and then by bumping, the accelerometer oks the service to look for another phone in the general vicinity that has also initiated a bump. Once it finds the other person, you have to ok the connection. You could literally be 10s if not 100s of feet away and it'll work.

IMHO - this is a good way to make a simple transaction complicated.

I can't see me using this in any way. There are possibilities as described in posts by others, but as of now they are only possibilities. Besides, why should I want to be charged PayPal's fees for everything?

whether we use it or not ...i think its great news ...why ? . its great because we are starting to get better apps everyday ... i hate the ibone cos its only a better version of a gameboy with apps but the ibone apps are brilliant ...

the faster the better i say and hopefully on sc card soon too ...

being able to "bump" in order to exchange pins would be awesome, in my opinion. much more efficient and useful that the whole pin scanning stuff...

I would use this, as I often use paypal to transfer money (sometimes to people in the same room). If it simplifies the process, why not?

Maybe for transfering picture or MP3s and the like, but MONEY? I don't think so.

As so many have said, I can see passing along social networking data, BBM invites, pins, etc. but passing money this way seems only useful in drug transactions. :x

I'm pretty pissed to see this as I had a whole business plan written up for an identical program.

Uses:

Craigslist sales. Much more secure if both ends can use paypal at the point of sale.

Buying tickets from someone outside of a concer/sporting event.

Splitting a restaurant bill if one person (or more) doesn't have cash.

Stuck at a bar that has a $5 atm surcharge and you and a friend need cash. Have your friend take out extra cash and you send him the money through paypal for a cheaper fee than the bar's atm fee.

The uses are endless if you use your imagination.

to pay for things in the immediate environment, but I don't believe that any time soon that I'll be bumping, tapping, or slapping my BB against anything to make payment. I can see using a screen app to pay for things; maybe I could point my BB. :-) like a magic wand....

why not just hand the person the cash ? you gotta be right next to them to "bump" phones.. i think it would be cool if it transfered all your music instead, not repeating tacks though... sounds like a great idea though im sure it'll be useful for some....

In a world of credit and debit cards, people don't always carry enough cash around with them. I know I usually have about $10 in my wallet. Most of my purchases are debit.

I have this app on my ipod touch but I haven't used it yet. I agree with some of the previous post that said this is not a useless app. In a world that is gradually going cashless it would be very usefull. I assume that this app would be used by those who have the Storm/Storm 2 and the upcoming Slider devices.

The first thing I thought of when a friend told me about this dumb thing for the iPhone was "My Palm III from 1998 could accomplish basically the same thing with its infrared port".

Well - the iPhone doesn't have an infrared port. Perfect opportunity to (as someone wrote earlier) over-complicate a simple transaction... and charge everyone for the privilege!

As someone already said, I'm not bumping my device against anything! That having been said, I can see lots of uses that something LIKE this would be good for...
