Blueant Z9i Bluetooth Headset

When it comes to Bluetooth headsets, I have had two personal favorites for the better part of the past twelve months - the Aliph Jawbone and the Blueant Z9. Comparing the original Jawbone to the original Z9, I tend to give the nod in terms of sound quality to the Jawbone, but for everyday usability with still-excellent sound quality the Z9 is what sits on my ear 80% of the time.

Now it looks like Round 2 of the Jawbone vs. Z9 match up has begun. Aliph has released the funky and slimmed down Jawbone 2 and Blueant has updated their Z9 to Z9i status which boasts improved sound quality. I haven't used either yet, but just got the new Z9i in stock and I'm itching to try it out. Here is the basic overview of the Z9i:

The BlueAnt Z9i is the follow up to the award winning and highly successful Z9 Bluetooth Headset. The device includes additional box contents and enhanced features. Incorporating BlueAnt's revolutionary Digital Signal Processing solution -Voice Isolation Technology™, the Z9i provides outstanding noise suppression, echo cancellation and wind noise reduction. The headset's 'Voice Isolation Max' feature further enhances the user experience in extreme noise environments.

Blueant Z9i Bluetooth Headset Now Shipping!

I am trying to decide between the Jawbone 2 and the BlueAnt V1, with voice control...any help, comments, sugestions would be most useful. Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I'm waiting for some reviews of the BlueAnt V1 to decide. Last I read this was supposed to be out around now... whatever happened with that?

My old M3000's earpiece recently broke and I've also narrowed down it's replacement to either the Jawbone 2 or V1. The J2 is available now, but only in black. I must have silver, which will be coming in August supposedly.
They may have a few bad batches as there have been some bad reviews, but mostly good.

Judging by the pre-order dates for the V1 it looks like it will be the end of this month or beggining of July. I am also anxious to see some real-world reviews of it, but I may go ahead and get a Z9i if my patience runs out...

Common guy. We need a REVIEW. A heads-up, no BS review. I need a new BT and it is going to be one of these 3. My wife has the Z9 and we both like it very much. Is the Z9i THAT much better in terms of sound quality, as "they" claim? Send me one of each and I'LL be GLAD to write reviews on all!

I was excited to see the review of the BlueAnt Z9i and immediately went to order this long-awaited little gem. Imagine my surprise when I clicked on the shipping choices box: $35 to ship that little box to Edmonton Alberta. No, thats _not_ next-day shipping either. Will I entertain buying something from ShopCrackBerry.Com?
Not. A. Chance.

Hey Tim,

Couple things here...

a) Yes, that would be next day shipping to Canada. That's the only option currently offered.

b) We'll have cheaper shipping options coming to Canada soon. We're actually working on opening a Canadian distribution center there shortly.

Thanks for the patience. Check in with us again soon.

That is good to know. The high shipping price to Canada is the only thing holding me back from picking up a few things from the store.

Here is what actually appears when you enter the destination:

Mon 6/16
By End of Day
UPS Worldwide Expedited

Tue 6/10
By End of Day
UPS Worldwide Saver

One dollar difference? Since the parent company of has multiple storefronts that all appear operate in a similar manner I'm curious that this hasn't come up as an issue for Canadian purchasers before now.

I tried the jawbone 2 and hated it. The earloop was a lot less comfortable than the original jawbone and they changed the ear tips - they are all round now instead of having one the fits easily in your ear. The sound quality was good but the volume controls are the same and its no use having a headset that is uncomfortable to wear.

I am also waiting to find out more about the V1, I wish the Z9i at least had ear tips that fit inside your ear easily, that was my biggest complaint about the original Z9

To all of you wondering about the Jawbone2 vs Blueant, all I can tell you is that I have the Jawbone2 and I am returning it. Even the SMALLEST earbuds do NOT fit into my ear. I never thought my ear canal was that small but evidently by Jawbone standards they are!! I am a decent sized man so this is quite surprising.

All I can tell you is that if the earbuds do NOT fit the Headset is USELESS as the little nub has to touch your face at ALL times or people can not hear you.

NOT saying Jawbone2 isnt a good product..just did not work for me AT ALL!!! And I WANTED it to work believe me!!

Returning it for the Blueant Z9i.

Just got my Z9i couple days ago..tried it out. the fit is okay (using large bud) but noticed that ear felt a little tender when kept in ear for extended period of time. Will try small bud to see if it makes a difference. sound quality is pretty good compared to other BT headsets. but notcied a huge drop off in quality (lots of static) when BB was in pocket or was in hand and phone was being waved (i talk with my hands sometimes). voice dial feature was decent, but have no other headsets to compare to. the clip-on feature is nice, but can see the potential for wear and tear on certain types of clothing.
asked a few friends about the sound quality and they said they could hear me clearly and audibly. but was mostly in quiet atmosphere. however, some people did ask what the background noise was (people were playing rockband) so not sure about the noise cancellation feature

okay guys, i was in a radioshack last night in hopes of buying a blueant z9. i had the guy in the store pair it up with his phone and walk outside...i couldn't hear a word he said. i heard nothing but static and he couldn't hear me either. i waived him to come back in, then i tried the next noise cancellation head set they had (plantronics voyager 520)

it was great! i had him pair it up and walk outside again...i couldn't hear the backround noise. being next to the hwy i was pretty suprised. it picked up a little bit of noise but i ended up buying the voyager 520 instead. i would like to give the blueant another try sometimes again to see if it may have been a defected earpiece instead.

I'm impressed with the size reduction of the JBII over my original Jawbone. The sound clarity was awesome with the original. I really have not been that impressed with the sound quality of the JBII as being better than the original.

My original BlueAnt headset had excellent sound quality on the VM(voice max instead of the standard) setting. The issue was comfort. The unit had one (rubberized) earpiece and plastic ear hook that -after a few hours started to slip with some discomfort from the earhook. My new z9i has a few added features - extra earhookand earpiece, ability to sync with five(instead of three) devices. Blah, Blah....whatever.

However, IMHO, the quality of the sound has been enhanced and is slightly better than the original.....with a sound quality that is comparable to the JBII- not better. My original Jawbone bit the dust. The JBII is sturdy as is the original z9 and I anticipate the same from my new z9i. Overall, I prefer the new z9i over the original(z9)and will "alternate" with my JBII. JMNBSO (*_~)
