BB 950 FrontIf you have been addicted to Crackberry as long as I have, you will remember using the classic 950 model back at the turn of the century.

Back then, Blackberries were more like glorified pagers then the hi-tech multimedia devices they are today.

I remember the first one I had.  I had it set to the "da da di di da da di <bzz> <bzz>" tone and vibrate notification when I received a new message.  I think it was called "1812 Overture ".  It was wicked cool.  We would sit around the server room and send messages back and forth to each other just to hear that vibrating little gadget known as the RIM Blackberry.  Ah the memories...

Question This PostRIM announced in a press release today. that it will be selling the BlackBerry platform to Treo maker, Palm , in a record $169 Billion dollar deal.  Asian reporter, Trisha Takanawa was the first to report this story on the Quhaog, RI news early this morning.  The main reason cited for RIM's decision was that RIM wanted to show its BlackBerry users the robust and stable experience that could be had by using PalmOS.  All BlackBerry users are urged to call 1-800-555-6227 for more information in exchanging their BlackBerry's for Palm Treo 8800 models.

Paris:  Hey, Jack O' Boy, you like wanna hook up with me and Nikki later?

Jack:  Hmmm, whatcha gonna be doin?

Paris:  First we are going to catch a drink at the terrace, then maybe go clubbin.  I talked to Lindsey earlier and I was all like...  You just gotta meet Jack from Crackberry.com.  That site is hot!  And so is he!

"Crackberry Thumb" Sufferers You Have Hope
Posted in News & Rumors on 15 Mar 2007 22:02 by Jack Benney | 0 comments

Ouch, my thumb hurts! If you are like me and most crackberry addicts, you probably suffer from the physical condition known as "Crackberry Thumb" or "Crackberryitus".

We crackberry addicts have had to silence our cries, swallow our pride and suck up the agonizing pain we feel in our thumbs.

Until now...

Graceful Services, a premier day spa located in New York City, is now offering relief for us poor crackberry users. Along with a wonderful massage of the body, mind and soul, they offer an exclusive "Blackberry Finger Massage" for only $60 per hour. As a complement to this they also offer "Cell Phone Face" head rub for an additional $80 per hour.

CBS NY has a nice little video documenting the new services.

Thank you Graceful Services for your gift of hope for the millions of crackberry thumb sufferers in the world!

I wonder how many more day spas that offer treatment for "Crackberry Thumb" will begin to spring up all over the globe?

Blackberry Browser Client-Side Denial of Service Vulnerability
Posted in News & Rumors on 14 Mar 2007 21:49 by Jack Benney | 0 comments

Dont Cry For Me My Crackberry!A security advisory was released earlier this evening which alerted to a new Blackberry browser client-side denial of service vulnerability that effects various blackberry devices with the BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2 and prior.

This DoS is the result of the way the Blackberry browser handles certain excessively long URLs that can cause the device to slow down and possibly come to a screeching halt.  This can only happen if you click on a link that has been crafted to exploit this vulnerability.  If you have been effected a simple reset of the device (remove battery and reinsert) should get you back up and crackberrying once again!

Although the risk is relatively low you should probably upgrade to 4.2 Service Pack 1 if it is available from your carrier for your device.

Check out Blackberry Downloads for the latest software downloads that are available for your crackberry.  If you are using your company's crackberry you may want to give a heads up to your crackberry administrator.  While you are at it, be sure to mention crackberry.com!

This security vulnerability was first posted at FrSIRT

If you are still waiting for an update from your carrier, you should at least be careful when following links that are within an e-mail message or on a website you do not trust.

Idokorro MobileSSH
Posted in Software Reviews on 14 Mar 2007 00:28 by Jack Benney | 1 comments

Fancy ShmancyYou are at the restaurant that your significant other booked 6 months in advance, sitting down and enjoying your anniversary dinner together.  The bread is warm, the wine is flowing and things are just perfect...

Bzzzzz.  Bzzzzz.  Uh-oh, you know that feeling.  It's your crackberry telling you secretly in it's gentle vibrate mode that you have a new message.  C'mon why now?

Your girlfriend is talking to you about the time you first met and suddenly your mind starts to wander.  Is the new message your crackberry alerted you to a simple SMS from your buddy asking you to come over and watch the game this weekend?  Is it an important e-mail?  Nah, it's probably just spam.  Or is it?  What if it's your network monitoring system telling you a service went offline?  You'd better check.  Your hands start to sweat as you start twirling your crackberry round and round in it's holster.  Tick, tick, tick, tick... You smile at your girlfriend and excuse yourself to the rest room.

Halfway to the rest room you already have your crackberry whipped out of it's magnet cradle and unlocked.  What you had feared has come true; there is a service down.  You are the systems administrator and you need to connect to the proxy server at work to restart the squid daemon.  But there is no computer around to get online and VPN'ed in.

What can you do?

Luckily you can use the BES server and MDS to connect in with your crackberry and SSH directly into the server using Idokorro's MobileSSH client.
