BlackBerry Tour Gets a Guest Spot on 'House' By Adam Zeis | 09 Feb 2010 11:53 |
While watching House M.D. last night as part of my lazy Monday night, I was excited to see our good friend the BlackBerry Tour 9630 had a guest spot for most of the show. Right from the start, Lisa Edelstien's character showed she is a true CrackBerry Abuser as her precious Tour rarely left her sight (or her hand for that matter) for most of the show). As her alarm clock rang at 5am (which she should totally scrap for an charging pod and bedside mode combo) she immediately checked her device as any true BlackBerry addict would. Throughout the episode, the stock BlackBerry ringtones made users everywhere check their own devices, not realizing the alerts were actually coming through their TV speakers. I'll admit I looked down once or twice as "Notifier_Contentment" sounded out, thinking it was my Bold 9700. While the Tour was unbranded, it was still good to see a BlackBerry getting great screen time. You can check out the show's intro at Hulu. If you happened to catch the episode, drop a comment and let us know what you thought of "House B.B" :-)

WorldMate for BlackBerry Adds Ability to Connect with LinkedIn Contacts - Win 1 of 4 Gold Subscriptions By Adam Zeis | 09 Feb 2010 09:12 |
WorldMate has long been know as the "go-to" app for travelers. With flight alerts, hotel info, itinerary tracking, weather and more, WorldMate stands above the rest. Today they have added another weapon to their arsenal by announcing integration with the popular business network LinkedIn. The new partnership allows WorldMate users to share travel and meeting itineraries, notify contacts when arriving in destination cities, search contacts by city and more.
This makes WorldMate one of the first companies to incorporate with LinkedIn and offer enhanced features. The new tools will definitely keep WorldMate at the top of it's game, and give users multiple options for better staying in touch with business contacts when traveling. The LinkedIn app is still said to be on the way, but this will help keep users in touch for the mean time. A WorldMate Gold subscription will run you $99 for the year (a free trial is available) but if you travel often it is well worth it. The new version will be pushed out to current users on February 16th. Check out the full press release after the jump. Contest: To enter to win 1 of 4 one-year WorldMate Gold subscriptions, leave a comment on this post telling us how WorldMate helps you with your travels and/or travel planning. Please only leave one comment, multiple entries won't count. Contest ends this Sunday at Midnight PST.

Google Reader App Unread Now Available for All 5.0 Devices By Adam Zeis | 08 Feb 2010 12:16 |
Still no Google Reader app for our beloved BlackBerry devices, but one solution has popped up that appears to be a good hold-over until an official Google Reader app shows up (or if it shows up). Unread was previously only available for the Storm, but has just been released for all devices running OS 5.0. The app is plain and simple, allowing you to view all of your Google Reader feeds, and it even updates read/unread status in real-time. There are a few options for tweaking Unread to your liking, allowing you to get it working to fit your needs. It automatically refreshes feeds in the background, supports full HTML and fully integrates with your Google Reader account. If you're looking for an app to get your Google Reader subscriptions on the go, Unread may be the one for you. Check it out for $4.99 in the CrackBerry App Store.

Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup Part 4: Openbeak By Adam Zeis | 08 Feb 2010 09:22 | OpenBeak (formerly TwitterBerry) is probably one of the best known Twitter clients for BlackBerry. When Twitter first started its monumental rise, TwitterBerry was one of the few clients available for BlackBerry, and everyone who was jumping on the Twitter wagon got in on the action. New clients began to show up, and TwitterBerry quickly fell to the back of the pack. It didn't totally go away, and now rebranded OpenBeak, it still hopes to capture users with its simple features and ease of use. Take a look at the video above for a quick overview of OpenBeak's features (or lack of) and see how it compares to the other clients in our Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup.

Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup Part 3: TweetGenius By Adam Zeis | 03 Feb 2010 12:28 | So far we've checked out UberTwitter and Seesmic for BlackBerry in our Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup, and now we move along to TweetGenius. The first true "premium Twitter client" for BlackBerry, TweetGenius raised the bar with its smooth UI and animations, as well as its features and ease of use. It caught a lot of flack for being a paid app, but true Twitterholics coughed up the dough and have been loving it ever since. Check out the video for a look at all of the cool features. If you're ready to step it up and want to purchase TweetGenius, head over to tg1.beejive.com.

Classic Card Game Mille Bornes Now Available for BlackBerry By Adam Zeis | 03 Feb 2010 12:22 |
One of my all-time favorite games is the classic card game Mille Bornes. I used to play it on family vacations for years, and although it has a pretty big learning curve, it is loads of fun to play. The premise is a road race where you take your "car" through a 700 mile trek, while your opponent(s) play hazards to hinder your progress. You are scored various points along the way, and the game requires multiple hands to win. Mille Bornes has been ported to BlackBerry by On Queue Software and while it doesn't have the greatest graphics, it still gets the job done and provides a load of entertainment. Mille Bornes is available now for all devices at ShopCrackBerry.com for $2.99.

Official OS 5.0.0.419 for the BlackBerry Tour 9630 from SaskTel By Adam Zeis | 02 Feb 2010 13:28 |
*Update: Telus has jumped in on the fun too - we just got word that they have also officially released 5.0.0.419 for the Tour 9630. You can grab it from this link. * It looks like SaskTel is the latest to drop an official 5.0 for the Tour 9630. The guys at BerryScoop found this one, and 5.0.0.419 seems to be the way to go as its starting to pop up as an official release from multiple carriers. If you've been holding off on the update, this release seems to be reliable thus far. Still no word from Verizon, so if you're growing tired of waiting you may want to just give this a go to tide you over.

Case-Mate Barely There Case for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 By Adam Zeis | 02 Feb 2010 11:37 | The Case-Mate Barely There case is one of my favorite accessories. It comes in a variety of colors, and gives a unique look to your device to set it apart from the others. It doesn't add a lot of bulk or weight to the device, and provides a good amount of protection for everyday use. This isn't a full-protection case and it really won't save you from bumps and bruises if you drop your BlackBerry, but it will keep it protected on the back and sides from everyday wear and tear. Take a look at the video for a good overview of the Barely There case.

Verizon has updated VZ Navigator to version 5.0 and included some cool new features. The app has long been the easiest navigation solution for Verizon customers, and with the latest update they hope to stay in the running and other GPS apps like TeleNav grow stronger. The update to 5.0 includes options to update your Facebook status from within the application, as well as the ability to send your location to dispatchers when using Verizon's roadside assitance. Load times have also been decreased as well as some minor updates to enchance the VZ Navigator experience. Currently the update is available for only for the Curve 8530, while support for other devices will follow in the coming weeks. VZ Navigator is $9.99 a month or $2.99 for a day pass.

Pack Light with BlackBerry Travel Accessories By Adam Zeis | 01 Feb 2010 12:29 | When traveling with your BlackBerry you want to pack as light as possible. Trying to remember all those chargers, cases and cords can be a real pain. To get the most out of your device and still pack light, there are some key accessories you can take along. A spare battery charger can come in very handy, especially when paired up with an extended battery. You may also want to check out some retractable USB cables to cut down on the cord tangles. Check out the video above for a quick look at some of my favorite travel accessories.
