With the last update having come back in November, Kisai Labs felt as though now was as good a time as any to go ahead and update their popular Twitter client Blaq for BlackBerry PlayBook. This release pushes the app into version 1.8.6 and while it's noted as being a maintenance release, it includes some new features and plenty of bug fixes. You'll find this release filtering through BlackBerry World right now but in case you're not seeing it yet, sit tight. You can jump below to check out the full details and download link.

What’s new?
  • More compact tweet rows – fit more tweets on the screen at a time
  • Ability to disable auto-correct – Advanced Options > General

Fixes

  • Rendering issues – duplicate tweets, incorrect tweet info
  • Embedded content not loading – Youtube, Twitlonger, Soundcloud, etc.
  • Twitter thumbnail loading
  • Cannot follow/unfollow user if real-time streaming is disabled or fails
  • Virtual keyboard does not send tweet in portrait
  • The bl4q.me url shortener (the default shortener) has been removed. If you were using it, you will now be defaulted to Twitter’s URL shortener
  • Minor cosmetic and speed improvements

A "first" poster and a bot... Things are off to a great start here. What I would really like to see, aside from some type of virus to attack bit posters, I would really like to see something implemented for the "first!" posters.

Just deleting their comment is too easy, they need to be humiliated so they learn their lesson and don't do it again. What if there was some way to stick their post right at the bottom so it's always last? I think that would be great.

Oh god its you people again! Who cares if someone posts "first"? It's really not a big deal honestly, just get over it

These kind of people are just looking for power and some sort of an advantage over people.

Hiding on the internet in their mom's basement is the easiest way.

I posted first once by coincidence I guess...strange I felt no thrill though.

Yo, chill.
I got the Blaq update before this was even posted on CrackBerry, so when I updated and found that bugs had been fixed, I ran here to post about it.

Nice to see the rendering issue and the duplicate posts being fixed. That was getting really annoying.

Hasn't shown up on my PlayBook yet. Hit the refresh button, still not there. Maybe tomorrow.

Would really want to use Blaq on my beat-up Playbook, but still waiting for that geolocation feature. :P

Why there isn't an official Twitter app for the Playbook?

I'd like to see a leak of BlackBerry10 running on a tablet. Now that would get the forums jumping :D

Why does it say "buy" when i already bought Blaq 1.8.5 ?

  • Reply

jcarty Jan 19, 2013 at 9:27 pm

If you purchased it during the sale, you may need to delete it. It's an App World/BlackBerry World issue. Once you do that, you can go to My World, hit Refresh List then reinstall no charge.

This is great. I was really getting bummed about the first tweet always showing blank until I scrolled, and if I left the app open, the duplicate tweets and such would show up. Working great now!

I really enjoy Blaq twitter client. I was surprised when Playbook didn't have twitter app, Only a web link considering the phones have it. Really opened up the options for 3rd party development however.

Blaq would probably sell more if they called it iBlaq ... just saying.. HahA kidding.

Still not working right for me. Tweets are still out of sequence. Still can't use it. I'll check in again after the next update...

It's better inasmuch as it's snappier and less buggy, but the duplicate-tweet issue remains (seems to happen if you leave it running) and the on-screen controls could use feedback as to when they're pressed.

It's good, but not perfect. Unless someone else (Blackbird?) adds TweetMarker support (why doesn't Twitter have that itself?) I'm not jumping ship.

This is update is a nice maintenance update. A bit snappier overall and less jittery anyone who's used Blaq long enough will have noticed the slight jittering when scrolling the timeline, minor and not too noticeable but hey I'm glad its been rectified. Also the second big enhancement was having the embedded media to work again, great having everything being done through the app.

For me, 'Real Time' setting is not working as it used to, even after the update: the timeline is not scrolling when the real time setting is selected and the real time indicator is on, if working correctly, the timeline should scroll automatically. It stopped doing that months ago and the update doesn't fix the issue. I still quite like the app, but this malfunction means I am again looking for a good, if not perfect Twitter application for my PlayBook.
