One for all you Twitter using BlackBerry PlayBook owners. Blaq for BlackBerry PlayBook has now been updated to version 1.8.7 and while the changelog isn't exactly huge it does includes some crucial fixes to keep up with the Twitter API along with some user requested feature expansions. We've listed them below for you, in case you want to look through them.

  • Twitter API 1.1 support
  • Increased direct message counts
  • Authentication issues when launching due to changes on Twitter's end now fixed.
  • Minor cosmetic issues now fixed.

With this release accepted into BlackBerry World and now available for download, hopefully we'll start hearing some news about Blaq for BlackBerry 10 as well. For the record, that's my not so subtle way of saying it's coming.

Can't wait for Blaq for BlackBerry 10. They could charge 5 dollars for it and it would be the instant top twitter client. Because, um, there currently aren't any good ones.

are you really happy with Blaq on playbook?? i am not, i paid for that because the feedback were great but i think it is not a great application. playbook needs a good and solid twitter app, similar to other platforms

I use Blaq on my PB, but there are a lot of things that I'm really not happy about. I just don't use Twitter enough for me to drop the app, and since I paid for it, I may as well use it. Blaq is great if all I want to do is read my timeline/@'s/DM's and reply to them, but navigation beyond that is a chore.

What could be done to make it better?

The developer is generally extremely receptive to feedback in my experience and they have continued to develop enhancements and features since it was released and I wouldn't mind relaying any suggestions people have.

For my usage patterns it works extremely well - especially in landscape but I have to admit I'm more of a consumer then a producer of content on Twitter.

Mostly curious as I've been using Blaq since the very early days and I'm very much so looking forward to a native BB10/Cascades port considering the biggest limitations was it being based on AIR on the PlayBook.

I definitely feel that it's overrated but since it is the best twitter app for the PB, that's bound to happen. I'm hoping that either it gets much better on BB10 or that UberSocial makes a version for both platforms.

I paid for the app is it great? No, I think developers have been seating on the fucken asses because of the good reviews, it is an Ok app because of lack anything better for BlackBerry PlayBook or BB10. It's sluggish, lack of features and the time line updates doesn't always work. I am forced to use the Android app because BlackBerry allowed sub standard app to be sold in BlackBerry World.

Blackberry has no control over the developers or what actions they take, be it porting an android app OR building it natively, or the tools they use to make the application.

At least learn to appreciate the app, OR DON'T BOTHER BUYING IT AT ALL!!! It can't be that difficult. Don't give it bad reviews just because adobe air is cumbersome, sluggish and slow.

The only way we will get a truth decent twitter for our awesome BlackBerry 10 and PlayBook is to raise money for user Social to develops a native app. If each BlackBerry &playbook owners in developing countries give $1 that should cover the cost of building one. Let get Crackberry to collect the money and our target is $1000000. Let do it!

It's all very well marketing the app as better than the tablet website but the fact is the claims simply do not match up with reality.
On the one hand even after this latest update there is still no auto-scrolling of the timeline; you have to keep pressing refresh. This is after the issue was made crystal clear to the developers since before the release of "....186".

Secondly, I notice that in the latest edition, selecting the details of your own profile under the columns of 'followers', 'following' and 'tweets' gives you a blank empty column in each! Come on guys, this sloppy app was not fit to be released was it? If BlackBerry/RIM have any common sense there's no way they would approve a version for BB10, based on the poor showing for the PB app. I don't feel ultra good about being this blunt but potential users really need to know the truth about this app beyond the slick marketing--I can confirm that it's still f****** up in this latest version.
