BlackBerry Z30 unboxing video

Just a couple of days after the BlackBerry Z30 was announced in Malaysia the new flagship BlackBerry 10 device has made its way into our hands - and what a beauty it is. We are going to have a ton of Z30 content coming up over the next few days, weeks and months, so keep your eyes peeled. As you will see in the video - the unit I was sent looks very much like a retail one, although there are a couple of goodies in the box. We'll have to wait and see if those come as standard or not.

As well as us getting a new BlackBerry - the Z30 is the first to launch with BlackBerry 10.2 which brings us some nice OS improvements. All the other BlackBerry 10 handsets will get 10.2 in October, but if you're itching to go hands on with it sooner the Z30 will be your only option, unless you have loaded up a leaked version.

I'm going to keep this post short and sweet - it's all about the video, but like always we will have a full review coming up in the very near future as well as a bunch of 'how to' posts if you're picking up the Z30 as your first BlackBerry 10 device.

BlackBerry Z30 unboxing video

Is there a Canadian company flourish without owner based in US, excl. financial and resource sector?

Canadians only have Canadians to blame. Every Canadian is running around with an Android or iphone. It's the Canadian Way!

BlackBerry will survive in the Corporate and Government Sectors! My Z10 is so much better than an iphone!

If you think its just Canadians who buy Android and IOS then you have serious problems. Android and IOS are both #1 worldwide.

The truth is that unfortunately the Smartphone market is saturated with millions of illiterate people. It's a huge market! They buy what they are advised to buy by the equally illiterate salespeople. The Bb10 phones are for those who can appreciate a truly advanced device and use it for what it was intended to do. Try to tell an "i" fanatic that the Z10 has a way better keyboard and see their response. You won't have a chance to move to the next point that the Z10 browser is also way faster. It's a huge marketing issue going forward and BlackBerry will have to find their way in this rather imperfect world. I have enjoyed my Z10 from day one and have actually succeeded in convincing about 4 friends to move from iPhone's back to Z10's. Every one says the Z10 is way better and are now back with Blackberry. It is however a very difficult task.

Here's the problem with that rhetoric: Everyone who doesn't chose a Z10 isn't illiterate, and every salesperson that doesn't buy into the BB10 experience isn't illiterate either. That's a gross rationalization. I do agree that Marketing plays a HUGE role in market trends and people purchasing phones are swayed by trends. But all trends aside, BB10 has a solid keyboarding experience, and the HUB is OK I guess-I don't quite see the big deal. Web browsing is fast, but having to side load apps to , and leaks doesn't exactly sound like an advanced phone. Some people may be comfortable with other platforms because that's all they know, just like the early Blackberry adopters who never left. Others may just prefer Android, Apple, or Windows. does that make them stupid?

The hub is probably the most clever notification system on phones as we speak specially with priority hub in 10.2 yes they have a shortage on some of the major apps but so did iphone and android when they first started
bb10 is the easiest os to use on the market today once it matures abit and is used to its full potential i think it will easily take over the #1 spot

Darkest unboxing ever. ;) I could barely see the thing, going to start a kickstarter to get James a higher watt lightbulb.

Looks very awesome, but too big a phone for me atm
Love the included charger bundle and the holster!

I really hope that charger bundle comes with the normal retail package and not just review units. Those are highly useful! The review units for Z10 had more than retail accessories like the BT speaker etc.

Seeing the current trends, if you are on Verizon they take everything out of the box. My Z10 didn't even come with headphones, while my 9930 had not only headphones but also a holster.

Can't wait for some reviews. This looks like a nice phone but I want to see what reviewers think of the screen. I enjoy my qwerty but the big screen looks tantalising so far.

Bad lighting. Turn on the lights so we can see it good! Lol jk. But I can tell it's nice. Would like to see how the screen looks next to the Z10 for comparison because the one knock on it is the 1280x720 res. Other than that, it's dope. I'll be getting it for sure.

BlackBerry 4Life

I said the same thing, time to send James some higher watt light bulbs.

That's great news. Now we can get the z30 for next to nothing. It is the best device on the market, but as long as the iphone and android lovers remain ignorant, I keep getting great devices for practically free!

BlackBerry will survive in the Corporate and Government Sectors! My Z10 is so much better than an iphone!

a discussion for a financial bailout by the Canadian government is in motion as we speak...and a new legislation was immediately passed to mandate each Canadian government employee must purchase (doesn't have to use) a BB10 device... :-)

Looks good, though the goodies in the box seem more like review unit goodies than retail goodies. The pouch would be nice, but given the trend, I'm not incredibly confident that there will be a pouch with it.

Would love this phone. Only 6 month the into a 24 month contract though. Looks amazing! Hopefully get it one day

Lol you seriously have to ask that? He said it's coming out with the latest BB 10 OS. 10.2

Please do a speed test between the z10 and the z30. I played with one and loaded up a few websites. Despite being on the same network (rogers) the z30 clobbered my z10.

This was in an area where we had poor 4G reception so it had nothing to do with the fact the z30 can access the better LTE speeds. Besides we did the test in Waterloo and I don't thing Rogers has it out here yet.

Hey did anyone notice that the phone seems to have booted in approximately 40 seconds?

Looks like he hit the power button around 3:20 and when he flipped the phone over it was on.

Posted via CB10

Seeing how the z10 is no longer the flagship. Can BlackBerry do a trade-up? If they did, I'd give them my money today.

Z30 is a great phone and would do well in the market if the knucklehead CEO didn't broadcast that BlackBerry was assembled a council to review alternatives into taking the company private. I've been known business a long time and this marketing plan would night see the light of day. Pay this bonehead his money and show him to the door. You can't sell product if hour announcing to the world that you may not be around to support the product. I get that their a publicly held company, but there are specific business practices within a publicly held company that can be private.

One more item, whoever is doing the presentation of the Z30 should never be allowed to get in front of potential customers again.

They screwed it up on purpose. No other explanation. Inside job by the NSA or Apple. Something like that.

I need TAT to work on the UI and add some more gimmicks. Other than that, I like the looks of 10.2 and the Z30. Please everyone go out and buy this, so BlackBerry will get the next device out that I am really clamoring for.

"Proprietary Enhanced Super, Resolution Digital Zoom (5x)"
Seems they already have a foot through the door of Samsung's HQ

Looking at the last bit of the video in comparing the Z30 to Z10, it gets me thinking BB should put out something like a Q30 ASAP ie same superb kb as in the Q10 but with a 4.2 inch screen. I'll upgrade my Z10 into something like this in a heartbeat. However perhaps I can just dream after all the going ons today at BB

Was a little frustrated at the news today re: Z10 being relegated to a lower end device going forward (although it's yet to be defined what exactly that means) but after seeing this unboxing of the Z30 & seeing how much bigger the display is without too much difference in overall size.... YES! This phone will work nicely for me! Looks BAD A** !! Bring it!! Too bad this phone won't expel BB's management team for one that CAN actually bring it! UGH!
Seems to me the best course of action is to sell to a Canadian someone or group to take this company private. What an absolute disaster the launch of BB10 has been. So tired of thinking they've got a game plan to get this thing off the ground only to be disappointed time after time! I wish part of this 3 phase plan was to market the SH*T out of these phones. I'm not talking about the lame attempt they've made thus far but an aggressive campaign to actually make people want these things & overcome the 'blackberry is dead' mentality the public has. They need more than time, they need a marketing strategy. If people were in a situation where they had to use a BB, for whatever reason, they'd be shocked that they were using a BB. Problem is.... how to get these handsets in the people's hands. A daunting task to be certain but one the current management team is failing at. They not only effect the sales figures but are now effecting people's jobs, a Canadian iconic brand, possibly end of BB as we know it. I might be getting a little ahead of myself with that last part but still. So upsetting knowing this management team will end up with boat loads of cash for what can only be described as a epic failure thus far!! The worst part of it is.... IMO, they have the best product of the bunch?!! C'mon maaaaan!! <<<< NFL reference
Sry for being so long winded, had to vent!! Tomorrow is another day, and the sun will continue to rise every morning. Lets hope some of it shines on the fortunes of BB.

#KeepMoving... FASTER!! and maybe try another direction to move in. This one seems to have a road block.

You write well, sir; a mixture of enthusiasm and bitterness, then I feel in me an unexpected, painful sadness. That resounds, that echos. It gives a heart to comments.
Ce Z30 is extraordinary. When it will be for the sale in France, even on credit, I am going to try to buy it. It is not reasonable, but it is as to buy a German car, Mercedes or Porsche, because, and these reasons are often valid.
The keyboard, on this space, is going to go into the history.

Nice, but I am confused, since battery not removeable, back cover open just for SIM card and Extra TF card slot seems fire mosquito with cannon.

Am I seeing things or did that Z30 have the iconic BB LED coverage indicator flashing away? If so, I'm in, God damn you Blackberry - don't die now.

Oh good my z10 still works!

BlackBerry will survive in the Corporate and Government Sectors! My Z10 is so much better than an iphone!

I have one question guys... dose it come in several models like Z10 1, 2, 3 and 4?!
Or just one model?!

I will upgrade from a Z10 to the Z30 for sure. I love extra real estate. BTW: have any of you watched the 10.2 demos? Slick features, calender, contacts, etc Ultra professional ideas, check it out. I agree with an earlier post....upgrade the UI to be a tad bit less pragmatic, add a tinge of delight. The OS already does that, but the presentation could use some shine.
If a buyer does not step up, the government should intervene. why? Too important to fail. This company, if well run could innovate what is still an industry in it's infancy. Lots of crucial patents, smart people.

Dumb question, but what are the pros of upgrading from a z10? I would like to see a comparison sheet showing z10 vs z30 specs...

Nokia 42megapixels, Z30 8megapixels #lol I don't see BlackBerry phones with 10 mega pixels in the 4years!

This makes me want to go out and buy a z30 but since Blackberry will be sold off, the z10 won't be worth the parts its made of by Christmas, so I'll stick with my Samsung. The new z10 is D.O.A.

Do we have apps for this useless device....? I hope is heavy enough to be my next paper weight on my desk.

People no offense but. #TrueStore

So I just got my Z10 about a month ago. Should I get the Z30? Im loving my z10, im just anticipating the official release for OS 10.2.

Posted via CB10

I'd wait and see what happens to Blackberry if I were you. The company wants to have itself sold off by November, and I've read the z10 is not worth the parts its made of. My guess is the same thing will happen to the z30 by Christmas. I have a Playbook but wont invest another penny into Blackberry till I find out whats going on with the sale of the company, and what the new owners do with Blackberry. Just my 2 cents.

Buy Canadian - the Z30 kicks ass! Clearly a quality tool not a bloody toy. Wake up world, stop listening to US propaganda that always seems to undermine Canadian advancement. They just treat us like an addendum to wood, water and every other natural resource and forget that we invented communication, i.e., the telephone and the smartphone. Blackberry's ingenuity will reign once the corporate mud clears.
Buy Canadian.
