In case you were wondering what's hiding inside the BlackBerry Z30, forums member chelojavier took the liberty of posting up some photos to give us the inside scoop. The photos show off the motherboard, non-removable battery and all of the other hardware packed inside the Z30. Nothing too surprising lies within, but man is that battery big!

Unless your super tech savy we definitely don't recommend taking your Z30 apart for any reason -- so consider yourself warned.

Hit up the gallery above to check out the Z30 hardware then swing by the forums at the link below and discuss!

The question remains....how can I get a STA100-1 OR 3 MODEL unlocked
These things seem to be elusive

VZW in US has the 3 model.

BlackBerry should have never built phones with smaller batteries. Loving my Z30...

Want one but it's hard to part with the removable battery on the z10.

I felt the same way, but I got the z30 for my birthday and you really don't need the remove able battery. You can get a full day of heavy use on it no problem and it only takes a few hours to charge

remus2k

And what do you do in 12-18 months when the battery is below 75% health?

Wanting a removable battery isn't for day - to - day use... its for replacement when the battery wears down - because it WILL.

And if your response is "I'll have a new phone in 12-18 months", that's a big-time cop out. We all spout that BB makes amazing business phones - well I don't like to change my phone out every 12 months... I want to find what works and have it last and not have to worry about downtime or failures.

I doubt companies will buy 10,000 units of a piece of equipment that's intended to be replaced again in 12 months.

surgeon1919

You're 100% right but you would be in shock at many large companies buy iPhones.

Looks like the Battery is connected via a ribbon cable. If you really had to replace it, it wouldn't be a tough job.

Whoa I was just trying to help them with there decision weather to get the z30 by just sharing my experience. I was a little doubtful about the battery to but I still have my z10 and it still works well and I'm sure it will for another 2-3 years so I'm not to worried if the battery does die on my z30

I have the additional battery pack. Gives me two days plus without a charge, though I typically charge every night.

On the odd day I forget to charge, the phone seems to just need a short top up to last the rest of the day.

I haven't noticed much deterioration in battery power over time in modern phones. Maybe I've just been lucky. I can understand your disappointment with the lack of a replaceable battery, but most of the other major players are just the same.

leehardballer12

12 months is quite the exaggeration for a battery to start to crap out. 18 months at 80-85% of original charge is more like it and still quite enough.

Interesting position regarding the battery; however, the market leading smartphone's...(yeah, maybe "smart" isn't quite accurate) to which a number of enterprises have allowed use of, batteries are not removable. It hasn't slowed down the number of purchases or caused businesses to decide not to deployed them in their systems. My son's iPhone still holds excellent charge and its 3 yrs old...he doesn't know his mom bought him a new one for Xmas. My iPod still gets daily commuter use and holds a decent charge after years of service.

Not quite sure how this is a "deal breaker" for BB. I too would prefer a removable battery, but like it is for the vast majority of folks, isn't going to sway my decision too much. I just want BB to release the Z30 to ALL CARRIERS! Enough of this BS exclusive crap...get the phone in the hands of folks to use!!!!!!!

GLOBALceo

I agree. I use the rapid charger from VZW and get charged with in an hour to hour and half

A few weeks and then I would have the z 30 !

BerryRipe

That's is crazy! Those components are spread out to make as much room for the battery as possible! Excellent BlackBerry!

What if BlackBerry got rid of the vibrator all together? I don't use it and I'm not sure what they would use the space for but surely it would be something more useful. Vibrate mode is so oldschool and uses up too much battery power.

Then you obviously never have meetings or anytime that you need to be quiet

Then you never worked into a noisy shop environment as well. Without vibration mode you miss almost all your incoming phone call (even if volume set quite high)

Want a Z30 real bad!! But holding out for the first BlackBerry phone with a top-of-the-line camera! C'mon BB! You can do it!!

Switched my z10 to the z30 and I honestly wish that the z10 was as polished as the z30 is because I prefer the size of the z10.

I agree... Having had a Galaxy S3 then Z10 and now Z30... I believe that there is room for a Z20 at about a 4.65 inch screen.... and, of course, a Q50 with a 4 inch screen and Qwerty...

Can't you get an imported compatible GSM version?

Yes, I know it's money. I think Kogan.com (Aussie) ships to US.

Prem WatsApp

Btw, I don't work for Kogan, but I got my white Z10 from them for $300, and I am happy to recommend. They stock GSM Z30 too.

(Just had an iPerson sitting in my row on the plane yesterday, 4S with broken glass back, felt sorry for him. Like the Z10 flexible, virtually unbreakable plastic cover. Not as stylish as Q10 or Z30 fibre back though.)

Lots of luv for Z30 on here. Awesome phone. Had mine for over a month now and under heavy use, lasts a whole day n than some. Only complaint is that screen brightness should be a tad brighter but other than that 5 inch screen is perfect fit for me. And the weight is nice, hate light phones always feels cheap to me. The hub is genius, all my comm in one place.
Very nice teardown, maybe one day i"ll do the same. If that is the simple ribbon connector, wonder how hard to replace battery. I"ll have this phone for a long while unless Blackberry decides on the ultimate slider. Merry Christmas everybody

Peace

tryfe

Now how about a teardown of Verizon's STA100-3 model so we can see the wireless charging parts??

starafrican246

Very soon tryfe, i just bought 2 verizons with damaged lcd cheap and 2 new lcds to replace, i will be posting a youtube video in about a weeks time, ill be sure to keep you posted.
2 broken verizon z30 @ < $200 each, lcd is $65+shipping

plexmaka

did you create the video?

i have a broken lcd now, and I am planning on repairing myself

starafrican246

Before i explain how to disassemble, you need to order the EXACT part based on your model you are repairing.
i.e, the verizon version stl100-3 is NOT NOT compatible with the other models. The screws are alligned differently and some more differences which makes it IMPOSSIBLE to interchange.

No video needed, just remove battery cover, remove the 9 screws and notice the lcd is dislodged, carefully disconnect the one lcd ribbon cable located bottom right and gently remove lcd, now disconnect the 5 ribbon cables and pry around battery until it becomes dislodged, it is stuck with glue.
Now the issue I have with the phone is that the verizon model is different to the other models so parts are NOT, interchangeable except battery maybe, so be sure to order the exact same model number for your model when ordering.
