BlackBerry World is the on-device storefront through which users can download apps, music, and video content. Previously, the portal was known as BlackBerry App World, but was renamed after the separate marketplaces created on the PlayBook were folded together for BlackBerry 10. Newsstand remains a separate marketplace for magazines on BlackBerry 10.
BlackBerry World allows users to pay for their content through credit card, PayPal, or directly through their wireless service provider (when supported). Apps, TV shows, movies, and music can be downloaded directly from the device by conducting searches or browsing through the categorized catalog. A web portal to the store also allows users to remotely install content onto their device. The BlackBerry World is a unified marketplace, selection varies between BlackBerry OS 7 devices, BlackBerry 10 devices, and BlackBerry PlayBook.
For those of you who live in India and are looking to pick some great apps, BlackBerry World is the place the go. Right now, select apps in BlackBerry World have been dropped up to 50% off as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Camera+, InstaVenue, iGrann Pro, Fitness Tracker, Package Tracker Pro and more are among the apps available. You should be able to hit the link below and be taken right to all of the selected apps. The deals run from today up until August 25th. Let us know which ones you grabbed in the comments.Continue Reading →
You've all seen them. Those apps that appear in BlackBerry World that are all named 'App For' whatever, be it App For Instagram, App for Candy Crush Saga and countless other things. Well, it seems BlackBerry is finally taking a bit of a stand against them now and has begun sending out notifications letting those who submitted such apps they have 48 hours to change the name of the app or it will be removed from BlackBerry World.Continue Reading →
When BlackBerry announced they'd be shutting down the music, movie and TV show portion of BlackBerry World come July 21st, it left many folks wondering where they would turn to for those services. At the time, BlackBerry advised through the Amazon partnership and BlackBerry World third-party apps, consumers would now have even more options to choose from but it also appears the 'contract' with 7Digital for music isn't entirely finished.Continue Reading →
The landscape for BlackBerry has changed a bit when it comes to apps available on the platform. Although it was never really hugely advertised, most CrackBerry readers are fully aware BlackBerry 10 can run a lot of Android apps out of the box with BlackBerry 10.2.1 and Snap, Amazon and others.
With native apps available and Android apps available I'm curious if anyone's app installation habits have changed and with it being brought up in the forums by antoscimento, now is a good time to ask. Do you now immediately load Instagram because you can? Do you go straight to native BlackBerry apps?
Let us know what your top three apps are that you immediately install when you get a new device or wipe your current one. It'll be interesting to see what ranks higher for some folks and what's lower on the priority list with all the changes. Drop some comments below or hit the CrackBerry Forums and let us know!Continue Reading →
In addition to the big announcement today that the Amazon App Store will be coming to BlackBerry 10 later this year, BlackBerry also dropped word that they'll be shutting down their music and video stores on July 21st. Any media that you've already purchased (including music, movies and TV shows) will continue to be available, you just won't be able to purchase new content.Continue Reading →
My recent editorial on BlackBerry app developer revenue being down has sparked a lot of great discussion among developers in the community.
Among the suggested solutions we outlined of things BlackBerry could do for BlackBerry app developers to make more money, there is unanimous agreement that BlackBerry selling more phones would help the most. Expanding on this point, I received an email this morning from a major BlackBerry app developer with an idea on how this could be done:Continue Reading →

If you've been having some general weirdness happening with BlackBerry World wherein you've not been receiving app update notifications in a timely manner or having the splat stuck, you might want to go ahead and open up BlackBerry World. There's currently a new update pushing out that brings the app into v184.108.40.206 and is noted to address these issues you may or may not have been seeing. Do note however, if you're running a leaked OS then the chances are good that will see no such update available for your device. Most recent leaked versions should already have come with this release upon install.Continue Reading →
Although I was a bit hesitant to post this because I can't see it for myself, it would appear as though BlackBerry is offering those in Canada a deal on some great apps in BlackBerry World as part of a promotion.
If you head into BlackBerry World, swipe down from the top and tap on redeem and then enter in the code 'FALLAPPS', you'll be given a $25 credit on BlackBerry World to use on some select apps.
The promotion is noted to be ongoing until October 31st and again, only appears to be available to those in Canada. You can hit the forums for more details or drop a comment below if you give it a go and it works for you.Continue Reading →
If you didn't already update your BlackBerry World with the latest OS leak that arrived over the weekend, you can now do grab the latest official release simply by opening your already installed BlackBerry World and checking for updates. You should get a prompt to update to v220.127.116.11 that includes several bug fixes and performance enhancements as outlined in the change log provided by BlackBerry.
If you're not seeing it as of yet, give it some time as it may still be filtering through or you can try clearing your BlackBerry World cache. Also keep in mind that there is the slight possibility that you need to be running an older leak already to see the update, in which case it's only a matter of time before it starts to roll out to everyone but you'll still have to wait it out.Continue Reading →
Just a heads up for all you app downloaders out there, BlackBerry has taken to Twitter to let it be known that BlackBerry World will have limited access on August 27th through the hours of 12-3am ET for planned maintenance and upgrades. The last time BlackBerry World was down, Twitter and the CrackBerry Forums filled up with users letting it be known the offerings were inaccessible so hopefully, with some notice that won't happen again. Spread the word, and let it be known!Continue Reading →

We've seen them placed in the forefront before but the new additions will bring some welcomed changes. So what will the new Built for BlackBerry placement look like? BlackBerry World for BB10 has been updated a little bit with a new user interface in the category section. It used to be that apps were show in a straight list with hidden filters and sorting options beyond the top, but now you get a bit of a landing page first, and then expand to the other sections in the old format as necessary. It's very similar to the music app's layout.
It a nice little change, and makes the top apps of any given category much more visible. Are you guys noticing anything new or different in BlackBerry World on BB10? How do you find the UI overall? Does anything else need tweaking?Continue Reading →
This week our Talk Mobile discussion is all about mobile apps, and what better place for us to start than with BlackBerry World?
Since April 1, 2009, BlackBerry World (or BlackBerry App World as it was then) has been dishing up applications to BlackBerry users across the globe. We've seen more than a few incarnations of BlackBerry World over the years, most recently with BlackBerry 10. In the past users were only able to download apps and games through the BlackBerry World store but now, BB World integrates both a video store and music store making for a one-stop shopping experience on BlackBerry.
While BB World certainly does a great job at listing top apps, trending items, top movies and albums - there are still some things that could be improved to make it even better. The content grows bigger and bigger every day, making it harder and harder to find the really great apps. To aid in the search there are a few improvements we'd like to see to help make the BlackBerry World experience the best it can be.Continue Reading →

PBS, Univision and Viacom have partnered up and will bring content from Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and more to BlackBerry World. Some great news that will certainly give us a load of great shows to watch on the Z10. The more the merrier!

BlackBerry 10 launched just a few weeks ago with over 70,000 apps available in BlackBerry World, and today BlackBerry has announced that they have topped the 100,000 app mark. That means they've added an additional 30,000 apps in just seven weeks - pretty amazing if you ask me.
With multiple port-a-thons and a huge developer base, BlackBerry has done a great job getting BlackBerry World stocked up for BlackBerry 10. There are plenty more big name apps on the way, and with the US release just a few hours away, new apps like OpenTable and Amazon Kindle will be a welcome sight for new users.
Application catalog grows by more than 30,000 apps in seven weeks
More top brands building for BlackBerry 10 as platform launches in the U.S.

Taking a look through the CrackBerry forums and on Twitter, it's looking as though some BlackBerry Z10 owners have an update to BlackBerry World appearing on their devices. The noted version shows as 22.214.171.124 with the change log simply stating improved battery life and bug fixes.
As it appears now, the update isn't showing for everyone and in fact, it actually errors out on some devices leading me to believe it's likely still processing through. Either way, if you're a BlackBerry Z10 owner then go ahead and check for updates. In the meantime, we'll be keeping our eye on this for a more widespread roll out and update the post when necessary.Continue Reading →
BlackBerry World hosts a wealth of apps, movies, and music, but sometimes it's a lot more handy browsing that content from a desktop computer. The web interface for BlackBerry World is really smooth and clean, plus you can do some pretty in-depth stuff, including remotely installing and removing apps from your device. After installing a browser plug-in, you can dive into My World and see everything that's going on on your various BlackBerry devices.Continue Reading →
We've heard plenty of talk about the Built for BlackBerry developer program before BlackBerry 10 was fully announced and now that the BlackBerry Z10 is in the hands of many, we're getting a look at some of the apps developers have built for the program and that BlackBerry has tested for quality and performance.
Right now, if you load up BlackBerry World on your BlackBerry 10 device there is a new section at the top simply called Built For BlackBerry. In there, you'll find all the currently approved apps and games listed and ready for download in varying price ranges.
Needless to say, there is a lot of great stuff listed there and we'll be taking a further look at them all over time but for now let us know in the comments if you've tried any of them out. If so, what are your favorites? Hopefully the BlackBerry World web storefront will be updated shortly as well so a device is not needed to see the full list.Continue Reading →
