Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup Part 1: Ubertwitter

A long time ago (in a land far, far away) we did a quick comparison of all the Twitter clients available for BlackBerry in our BlackBerry Twitter Client Roundup. At the time there were only six available (that we knew of, and some were still in beta) so it wasn't too hard to tackle. Some were just kind of "there" and didn't work all that well, so there were really only a few that stuck out. A few months later we revisited with some new additions in out BlackBerry Twitter Client Roundup Part Deux (where we first saw Ubertwitter) and took another look at all the available clients. Since then, some have come and gone (or were forgotten), some never left beta and some became the top BlackBerry Twitter client. While RIM is brewing their own native Twitter app, there are a number of other great clients, both paid and free, that are worth taking a look at.

For part 1 of our Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup we'll take a quick look at Ubertwitter, which seems to be the client of choice for BlackBerry users. I love the layout and feel of the app, as well as the insane amount of features that are packed into it. In addition to the standard timeline, mentions and DMs, Ubertwitter allows you to use multiple accounts, view lists, trending topics, edit your profile and much more. Take a look at the video above to see what Ubertwitter is all about, and check back as we continue to look at all of the other Twitter clients available for BlackBerry in the coming weeks.

Social Scope was all that and a bag a of chips, which so many of you claim they are, they would 1) be more open to give people invites. 2) stop promiting themseves as #1... Vodafone update does the same thing.... and it's free to everyone....

I thought the same thing. Then I got an invite. For me it's hands down the best. Still wonder why it hasn't officially come out. Great app as far as twitter goes.

I've tried a handful of the Twitter apps, and I have got to say that UberTwitter is, hands down, the best one I've used. Kind of excited to see what RIM comes up with in their native app though, might actually give UberTwitter some competition :P

I agree with the $4.99 non-ad version. Makes it so much better. Ubertwitter is by far the best mobile twitter app.

...but the lack of privacy or the intrusiveness of the application (wanting access to your entire phone or it won't work) was a no-go for me. How is everyone else comfortable allowing UberTwitter access to their data? I tried customizing to only what I was comfortable with sharing and it wouldn't let me tweet. That's no good. OpenBeak is great, but so is Snaptu...which is fast, too.

UberTwitter Beta6 makes my phone shit the bed. 9700 with up to date software. Sometimes it corrupts itself, sometimes it corrupts the SD card and pretends to delete all my file. Almost losing 8 gigs of files is nyet cool. I have to uninstall ubertwitter, pull the battery and pull the memory card before anything goes back to normal.

Beta5 was a gem though. Multiple accounts, easy photo updates, ... I was a superfan. But no longer.

I was trying to use SocialScope for a while, but switched back to Ubertwitter. SocialScope was a memory hog and I kept getting the hourglass when I would do anything on the phone.

It's a bummer I really do like SocialScope maybe if I actually can download the most recent update I'd consider giving it another try.

I look forward to seeing the next ones coming. I switch between UberTwitter, SocialScope, and TweetGenius all the time and have a hard time figuring out what I like the best.

Purchased it last week(After being Devote to UberTwitter) and so Far it looks beautiful on my storm, the notifications could be more adament, but I love it, and until Rims (unofficial) Twitter App is released and holds a candle to the native ones and Genius, Im sticking with it.

I have a hard time deciding if I like Ubertwitter or socialscope better. Ubertwitter is less of a hog on the phones memory but that may be because I am on an 8330. However I know others on newer models who prefer Ubertwitter over Socialscope.

I liked Ubertwitter but it kills your battery life. I used LittleChirp now and it works really well. It's lite and doesn't constantly drain memory.

They are playing a game. Its called forced demand. Make people think they are missing out on something by limiting access. The program itself is not great. Its update notices were unpredictable. I finally went back to ubertwitter and the facebook app for more acceptably consistent notifications. Dont fall for the hype of social scope. They are just gearing up to take advantage of the fake "exclusivity" they have created and they will make a killing by just making people pay for the full app. Then they will move on and do the same thing with another app. and drop development on social scope.

They are just spin doctors taking advantage of people by making them feel left out. If they put as much energy into developing and improving the software as they do in managing "invites" they would have put out several more improved "beta" versions. Over the two months I used it there wasn't a single update or noted improvement.

Meh. My two cents. Toss it in a fountain and make a wish.

UPDATE:
So i changed it back to Automatic.
Then i did a "EXIT" and rebooted the device, and now it seems to be working just find.

Kills batter though. I think i'm going to have to change it from 5 minutes to 10 minutes.

Oh well...

I found that updates made via UberTwitter didn't always post and/or they never transferred to facebook. All other twitter apps worked fine in both areas.

I finally deleted it and just use the mobile version on my storm. Has it been updated recently? Possibly worth another try?

ubertwitter drains the battery life of the 9700 too quick, i am into openbeak and waiting for the socialscope invite to check it out.

I seriously prefer Seesmic now compared to Uber. A little benefit is having no ads on Seesmic.

Yatca + Openbeak FTW. Didn't prefer ÜberTwitter's interface at all. I'll wait for RIMs offical Twitter client before I consider ditching Openbeak.

Granted, UberTwitter has amazing features and generally works well, but it's still too slow for me. I'm still fiending to get a peek at SocialScope, but I don't think that invite is ever going to come.

So I've resorted to checking Twitter updates on my phone browser because it's faster. And since I like to post to Twitter and Facebook at the same time (and the Facebook Selective Twitter app doesn't always work), I generally just use the BrightKite app on my phone - which works a lot faster than UberTwitter for posting everything from posts to photos (and a bonus with BrightKite is that it posts my photos to Twitter, Facebook AND Flickr). And if I want to post something JUST to Twitter or JUST to Facebook - I just load either site up in the browser (Opera Mini) instead.

Until one of these apps actually does all that, I'll stick with BrightKite and using Twitter's mobile site. (Again, I keep hearing about SocialScope doing this, but since it's more or less unavailable, I'm not holding my breath.)

very nice and easy to use, i use the free one and dont mind the ad's, i just skip over them. It does drain the battery, and i have it set up to check every 15 minutes so maybe i will update that at some point. But it a very nice app and recomend it.

I totally recommend UberTwitter. Just make sure you close the app when not in use, else it will eat through your data package!
