Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup Part 3: TweetGenius
By Adam Zeis | 03 Feb 2010 12:28 | 38 comments

So far we've checked out UberTwitter and Seesmic for BlackBerry in our Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup, and now we move along to TweetGenius. The first true "premium Twitter client" for BlackBerry, TweetGenius raised the bar with its smooth UI and animations, as well as its features and ease of use. It caught a lot of flack for being a paid app, but true Twitterholics coughed up the dough and have been loving it ever since. Check out the video for a look at all of the cool features. If you're ready to step it up and want to purchase TweetGenius, head over to tg1.beejive.com.

Can't wait to get the official one by RIM

By: BayVol | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 12:35

Ubertwitter saves you $8 bucks and has the same functionality.

Since I switched to Tweetgenius I never looked back. this app trumps everything.

By: mdirose | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 12:55

TweetGenius slowed down my phone a ton, so i had to switch back to ubertwitter. its a great app, it just made my phone freeze all the time.

UberTwitter paid version $5 no ads and tons and tons of more features, TweetG is seriously lacking in functionality, and they are taken forever to udpate the app, unlike Seesmic and UberTwitter. Very disappointed actually as I also purchased TweetG but quickly dumped it from my Bb9700

Yeah I waited & waited for this badboy to rear it's face on my mockery of a BlckBerry known as the Storm 9530. But it quickly became my favorite Twitter Client..rated up there with my Tweetie 2 on my Touch. But more recently with SS & Uber both having upped the ante again. I'm sort of neglecting it. I pine for BGR to throw it some attention soon. Heard in Update is in the works. But these guys are like Nintendo and they don't release mumbo jumbo so we'll all have to wait patiently for the surprises Boy Genius & crew have in store for us..

Been using TG since it came out, runs smooth and does just what I need it to do. Thanks TG team!

By: duck383 | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 13:20

if they updated more and responded to the people that spent cash to get it it may be nicer, used on the 8320,8900 and checked it out on my 9700 all were deleted. jumped onto the hype before release-sucked-up memory, cant tweet sometimes and laggy most of the time oh and if you dont use it daily its worse after non use< but other than that it does look nice and when updated they do let everyone who has an account get the app (unlike guess who?)sure they will get it right before v2.

By: 701 | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 13:54

Is that ALL?Nothing about the cohorts of customers angry about the memory leaks and the lack of support?!Come on,you can do SO much better that this!

Wow, I have been more dissatisfied with very few things than I am the Unlimited Theme offer for $11.00 I paid for. To add insult to injury, after you sign up and pay for this nonsense, it clearly states Mobihand, or Crackberry, or whomever is in charge of the rip off will automatically charge your card for another year's subscription.

Most of the themes I have access to (and that is very few), don't work with the accelerometer of the BB Storm2 eventhough I clearly clicked on Storm2 Themes.

I have also sent emails via "contact us" links asking anyone to call or email me, and guess what? Ain't nobody called or written.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself at CB for continuing to offer the Unlimited Theme Promo. It's very, very bad. All I want is my money back. If I don't get it, well, all I can do is bad-mouth Crackberry and Mobihand at every turn.
Thanks,

Sorry to hear about your frustrations - very odd to see a comment like this, it's usually praise we hear. I reached out to the software e-commerce support team and they'll be following up with your shortly to make sure everything is resolved satisfactorily. Thanks for the patience!

I use twitterberry (very boring), ubertwitter (drain my battery live) and now I am with TwiXtreme and for me is the best one, love it

By: out2late | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 14:38

I bought this app the day it was released and was cheaper then I think. This app is a big boy on memory usage. I have used UberTwitter, SocialScope, TweetGenius and Seesmic but I always end up with UberTwitter.

By: iLovemy_bb | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 14:48

I was looking for a twitter client to replace UberTwitter(memory/battery hog)

By: girlontherun | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 20:02

then maybe you should try updating to the new UT. and my memory is fine. in fact, when i updated to the new beta 6 of UberTwitter, I gained memory. tweetgenius is a joke and charges.

By: Busta-B | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 15:04

I used to be faithful to SocialScope til TweetGenius came out... I paid the $5 and was loving Twitter-life at the time... that is until the new UT... I dropped TweetGenius immediately and have not looked back since... maybe I'll switch back to TG if they decide to update and make some changes...

By: tavella | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 15:31

Bought TweetGenius a day or so after it was released and I have enjoyed it since. Been using it on my Bold 9000. I haven't experienced the issues some people are speaking of (memory leaks, bad battery life, etc). I tried UberTwitter and SocialScope. They do have more functionality but I like the UI of TweetGenius over the other clients so I continue to use it. The Boy Genius made mention of an update coming soon, not sure when that will be.

People waiting for SocialScope might want to apply for the beta again. I received an invite within minutes when I sent my request last week. It was my first time applying so I'm not sure if it will help or not.

By: iLovemy_bb | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 16:22

I just bought it...the price tag is no issue for me. I think this is 1000x better than UT. If you think about it, UT is gonna release the official version(not beta) as a premium app; it's the only way to go with such a feature rich client.TG is waaaay more organized than UT and I respect that. To get quality, sometimes you have to pay the price. Oh, btw, RIM is either gonna charge us for the native Twitter client or they're gonna have to put out an amazing with no bugs from the initial release or they'll be in serious competition with the other guys and as far as a Twitter client goes, I don't mind using third party. Wonder if there are any 3rd Party FB apps....Hmmm.

By: frankdlr1972 | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 16:42

I love my Storm2, but I'm kinda jealous of my iPhone friends when I see them using Facebook. It totally blows the Blackberry version away, hands down! I haven't thought about it, but I would totally like to see a third party version of Fb. I'm sure it would kill RIM's version.

By: CrackBerryV79 | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 16:46

I just wish more emphasis was being put into the actual phone/browser/OS etc.

Having said that, Tweet Genius is a great app - just a tad low on the features, when compared to UberTwitter. Some basic ones, like lists, seeing your friends/followers... and a few other newbies, like the 'Twit Longer' feature and Friend Picker utilized by Uber. I agree that TG is take entirely TOO long to update this rather pricey app. I love their BeeJiveIM, but have been overall less-than-thrilled with Tweet Genius.

Looking forward (I guess) to the native RIM Twitter app. (it'll be free - not sure what the other poster was talking about) Hopefully, the RIM Facebook team will have NO HAND in it lol.

By: devGOD | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 16:48

I agree. there is way to much focus on telling others what you're doing in your day.

By: devGOD | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 16:47

are people really paying money so others can know what they're doing throughout the day?

By: PROB1 | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 17:04

I downloaded the app, thought hey I'll see how it stacks up against UberTwitter but you can't even try it unless you pony up the cash. They should give you a 3 day trial or something. I'm not willing to gamble the $7.99, I'll stick with UberTwitter for now.

By: samgbx | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 17:11

i had twitter for ages and didnt really get into it at the start, but got my blackberry and fell in love. i tried so many twitter clients and really wasnt happy. wanted tweetg because i saw a screen shot of someones homescreen and saw they had a little blue bird and i loved the look of it. im the kind of person that goes on UI and not functionality and i personally find every other twitter apps UI really horrible. got tweetg and have never looked back, i think its beautiful to look at and has enough functions to keep me happy :D

By: garment69 | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 19:09

Would not touch this with a ten foot pole if Beejive is involved. They fix bugs like the Govt slows spending, in other words, they dont. Pass.

By: a.leah86 | Date: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 20:27

To be honest, the fact that I can't try it before paying $8 is what keeps my from buying it. I hear it's a great UI, but often I hear that Ubertwitter is almost as good. I'll stick with for now unless Tweetgenius decides to offer a trial, or I get super rich.

TG and Seesmic seem to be the best for my battery. I love the UI of TG and it seems to be the most reliable. I have .953 for UT and .81 for SS. I do use SS on occasionally. I try each UT build, but my battery drains like crazy when refresh is set for 10 min or less.

By: lovemythemes | Date: Thu, 02/04/2010 - 00:57

I love this app!
It's by far the best paid twitter app.

By: crystinonfire | Date: Thu, 02/04/2010 - 04:29

it doesn't even support lists!!!

By: mi_canuck | Date: Thu, 02/04/2010 - 08:25

Using ÜberTwitter... it's up to .953 now too... works great, fast, looks good, easy to navigate interface, easy on my battery (update only every 1hr)...

can get it through the link in this thread... scroll to bottom for latest link (now up to .953, even though thread started when at .951...)

I agree its a sleek app, but as a BOLD user its just a too "large" application. 1.1Mb, its just too much if you have YM, Viigo n other "heavy duty" apps... But yes, nice app, I am sticking to seesmic with a light weight size of 250kb... *peace*

By: bigcrownvic99 | Date: Fri, 02/05/2010 - 03:50

you made the app sound so good and made it look good but i put it on my 8820 bb from t-mobile and when i run the app it suck's the memory up and slow down my bb. and i've been asking for help from beejive and on twitter but no help from any one.. i run os 4.5.0.139 and this app just plan suck..to run this app you have to have 18 mb of memory free or it lag and freez up you bb. you might want to tell you reader that...

Was hesitant to get it, but liked the info on the Crackberry site and took the plunge. Worth EVERY DIME! Thank you!

I've used TG since the beginning, and I have never felt the need for another twitter app. I've tried RIMs client, UT, Twixtreme, even Viigos version, and still, no reason for change. Its just clean, updates quick, and on the line you left it at(unlike RIMs version). Never had battery or memory issues on my 9000 or 9700, and I also use FB, Myspace, Beejive, google maps, and capture it. I don't need things like an explination of TT's or zoomed in display pics(I'm on a phone) so TweetGenius is good business... Bottom line.
