BlackBerry Traffic v3.0.0.389 now available - Includes voice guidance, fixes and more

The latest BlackBerry Traffic has had a great run in the BlackBerry Beta Zone and is now available for download in BlackBerry App World. Verison 3.0.0.389 brings along voice guidance, GPS improvements and other fixes. If you haven't check it out before, it's a great way to navigate on the go without the need for an expensive GPS. While the UI could still use some polishing and perhaps more of a GPS-like display, free is free, right? You can grab the update now in BlackBerry App World from the link below.

Ui is simple and no frills. Can really complain too much considering the screen sizes we have.

This is definitely one of the best BB applications. Highly recommended.

3.0 is awesome and GPS satelittes are found alot faster.
My hope for BB Traffic 4.0 is Playbook integration where, maps is used.
Playbook already has in the GPS chipset, we already have BB Maps, we have Bridge with Data flowing to the Playbook, put them together and we have BB Traffic HD for Blackberry Playbook. Now that would be out of this world.

Version three is a lot better than the previous version. I've been testing it in different routes and wow it's very good. So good that I don't even look at my BlackBerry screen. I just listen to the voice guidance. Awesome.

I downloaded this on my Torch 9850 yesterday and tested it out on my way home from work. It worked flawlessly, even re-calculating the route intelligently when I deviated from the original calculated route.
The enhanced sound feature (on by default) is extremely clear and loud enough to hear over music playing in my car. I had some trouble uploading my home and work addresses from my contact list into the default buttons because of the "United States of America" that BB automatically adds to contacts. You have to delete it off or the app won't find the address.
My only wish is for it to have a nice map of where you are going instead of a bar graph (integrate with BB Maps?), but I'm sure that will be coming in an upgrade.
The name needs to be changed because now it does so much more than just identify traffic on your route like it used to do. They also need to show this in some of their commericials to show that BlackBerry phones can do more than just email and BBM.

I check it out in app world on my 9850 and all it says is "uninstalled"...no download link available for me. Wth is that??? Is ti because I have it in beta?
tomj96 Dec 23, 2011 at 2:14 pm
Same with me. Going to uninstall the beta and see if it lets me download the official version.
Steve Rizla Dec 23, 2011 at 2:17 pm
This is the same version as the last beta build. If you still have the latest beta, you don't have to do anything.
tomj96 Dec 23, 2011 at 2:19 pm
Yeah but if it says it's uninstalled then I won't be notified of updates when they're available.
sk8er_tor Dec 23, 2011 at 2:23 pm
Try refreshing or try the ALT-R-S-T method.
tomj96 Dec 23, 2011 at 3:46 pm
Got it now. Had to uninstall, then refresh, then it allowed me to install and now shows as installed.
trigger1074 Dec 23, 2011 at 5:36 pm
same as above

We're still waiting for this app here in BELGIUM! Come on RIM!!!

...If you're in North America.
Apparently we still drive through fields in the rest of the world. The more technologically advanced among us have upgraded to horse-drawn carriages while the serfs remain riding Penny Farthing bicycles.
I hear there's a new thing called e-lect is city over there. Apparently it lets you use lights without fire?
Amazing! I must inform the Prime Minister!

It is very easy and quick to set up. This is the first version of BB Traffic I have used. It seems a lot of work went into improving each past version because I have yet to find anything that seems difficult or out of place as a new user. And it’s clear why it has received such high praise as one of the best BB applications.

Exactly how does one enable the voice guide to the bluetooth headset? Mine would only play through the phone's internal speaker. I can't find any option to route to audio to BT...
rickkel Dec 23, 2011 at 4:12 pm
I don't think there is an option to have it routed via Bluetooth. My Torch connects via Bluetooth with Ford Sync so everthing (well, everything but BB Traffic) flows through the speakers of my car.
The turn-by-turn voice still came through the phone's speaker. You can't change the volume of the instructions either other than to turn off the "enhanced" setting.
Johnny Zero Dec 23, 2011 at 4:16 pm
In AppWorld they promise audio through BT.
On my 9800, volume can be changed by hitting the volume hot keys on the side, and muted with the mute hot key on top, or by clicking the speaker icon on the upper left hand corner.

I have been using mine through my Motorola Roadster since the beta was released. It works very well. I sometimes have issues running different apps through it. Haven't figured out the exact cause, but as with most mysterious issues a battery pull seems to usually correct it.
PLTM Dec 23, 2011 at 4:42 pm
Rickkel, I had this same problem and I found out why. If your using the USB/Sat/Radio for audio, you will not hear BB Traffic, but if you are using BT Audio which in this case would come from your phone to listen to music, you will hear BB Traffic voice guidance over your car speakers.
I have Ford Sync as well and found this out when sync connected to my phone for music instead of my ipod. I decided that I will move all my music to my 9900 and ditch the ipod all together and when traffic comes to playbook, all my music is already on the playbook, i will go completely to playbook for navigation and music in my vehicle. :)

I have a similar issue.
My Bold 9780 is connected to my 2011 Volkswagen GTI's Bluetooth interface. If I am listening to the radio (AM/FM) or a CD, I don't hear any audio guidance at all. If I had the choice, I would like to use the phone's speaker to hear audio guidance.
I hope a later update adds this functionality.

This app is great, the only thing that will make it better would be map view. I like the option of being able to send a message of your arrival time!
omega supreme Dec 23, 2011 at 5:46 pm
if you all would like a map view voice navigated gps then consider the Life In Pocket app...it has that and more and it's free...just type the name in app world.

tried this for a couple weeks and it just didnt do well, it was about 50/50, i got so tired of it putting me at least a couple miles off and in one case 5 miles away from where i was suppose to be. i just had to delete but like i said it was 50/50 on getting me there
SJorge3442 Dec 24, 2011 at 1:11 am
mine doesnt speak the directions. How do you make it do that?
QuezXLV Jan 13, 2012 at 9:15 am
Mine doesn't either. I have a VZW 9650. I've checked the settings and everything looks to be in order.
scaramanga89 Dec 24, 2011 at 6:55 am
Still US only. Way to ignore your biggest markets RIM.
tcamshafter Dec 24, 2011 at 7:47 am
I LOVE THIS APP!!!!!!! AWESOME!!! but yes a map on the screen would make it perfect
fanboy101 Dec 26, 2011 at 8:15 pm
Really awesome app. Don't need a Garmin anymore...in fact was a last minute exclusion from my Christmas shopping list after I upgraded to 3.0...money well spent on another Playbook :)
I hope they add the maps view soon...should be easy since they already have bb maps...
