BlackBerry Traffic

Looks like RIM is getting out as many updates as they can before the holidays start. Next in line for a BlackBerry Beta Zone update in ls BlackBerry Traffic which has now been bumped up to v3.0.0.353. As noted in the BlackBerry Beta Zone, it does have some fixes included this release so you'll want to check it out:

  • *Fixed* Overlap Text: The overlapping text bug displayed in the “Options” menu screen has been corrected.
  • *Fixed* Device Lock: When pressing the lock key,  6.0+ OS devices will now lock when application is in the foreground.
  • *Fixed* “Include Street Names” box: When checking the “Include Street Names” box in "Guidance Options", the application will no longer automatically default to “High-Quality Audio”.
  • *Improvement* Initial Voice Guidance Instruction: “Arriving at destination” audible guidance is now enforced upon arrival.
  • *Improvement* Guidance Options: Wording changed in “Guidance Options” menu screen to "Standard Audio – Faster Download" and "Enhanced Audio – Louder and Clearer".

I don't use BlackBerry Traffic myself but that looks to be quite a large change log that should address a lot of folks problems with the app. If you're in the BlackBerry Beta Zone, you'll find the update there and waiting for you.

it's awesome! Can't wait until it's out of beta.

BB Traffic is Awesome! I just wish it had the VOICE feature of warning about upcoming traffic yellow and red so you can keep your eyes on the road and prepare you to stop or slow down ahead of time.

I commute 80 miles everyday and use this app while listening to music (from my 9900 too) connected to my car radio - The traffic voice sounds over the music but the music doesn't mute or pause so you have to adjust the voice volume to make sure you can hear it if using both features at the same time.

i'm installing now, just wish the 3.1 will come fully integrated with BB maps.

but i am loving the voice guidance chick. she's sweet.

Really impressed with BlackBerry Traffic, it's come a long way since it was first released. If they could somehow integrate with BlackBerry Maps for turn-by-turn directions, it would be amazing.

Can we use it in Germany or is it US/CA only?

Us/can only I'm pretty sure. It doesn't even work everywhere in Canada yet. When I had it on my phone it was useless where I lived.

I think they need to rename this app...it's a great app, don't get me wrong, but at this point it's not a traffic app, its a turn-by-turn directions app, they can call it BB Nav or something like that (maybe integrate it w/ BB or google maps and call the package BB Nav). But at this point, I never open the app for traffic updates, in fact I had the old version and deleted it because traffic information is not as useful when you live in a metropolitan area w/ nothing but traffic all around...but a voice guidance app...and for free??? good job RIM!

I agree. Should be BlackBerry Navigator or something

I disagree. I have an 85 mile round trip commute each day and use this to check for traffic on my route. When it finds traffic, it efficiently reroutes me. My in-car GPS nav does not do that, which makes BB Traffic invaluable. And when I travel, it is really helpful in rerouting around traffic (for example, when approaching NYC from NJ, it tells me which Hudson River crossing is most efficient based on traffic and my destination).

Does anyone know if it works on OS 7.1?

Mine is saying code line not supported so, no

This application is nice. Even more impressive though is how it has changed since the first version directly as a result of beta zone feedback. The BB beta zone is one of RIMs greatest assets moving into the future and was an excellent idea.

Good for some :-(
Using Blackberry since 2004. Have a 9800, a 9780 and two Playbooks.
Patience going low because no Beta Zone and some good for Portugal.
RIM must look to this situation :)

Been using the beta for a while now on my 9900 I would say it works at least as well as my Garmin GPS. I do agree that it should have the ability to pause/mute music while it gives directions. I have on a number of occasions I have gone a different way from the one directed and it is quick to adapt and does not constantly try to aggressively reroute you to the original route.

Great progress in a short time keep up the good work RIM!

Anyone want to make it OTA for us 7.1 folks?

nyland

Its a good program. Would like to see it on the PlayBook!

Been using this app since it was first released, it has come a long way. 3D maps simlilar to the Garmin app would make it the ultimate nav app.
