BlackBerry Traffic leaves beta - Download it today!
RIMs own BlackBerry Traffic has been updated to version 1.3.1.207 and is officially out of beta. BlackBerry Traffic is a simple little app that lets you plan your driving route and gives you an eta, traffic delays and alternate routes. You can grab addresses from your contact list and even send an email to let your firends know what time you'll be arriving. While it doesn't have the features of a bigger, full GPS app, BlackBerry Traffic is handy to have is you spend much time on the road. Download if free from BlackBerry App World.

Just did, amazing!
BBThemes Nov 18, 2010 at 12:42 pm
sad that its usa and canada only :(
bbroad25 Nov 18, 2010 at 12:45 pm
Is there an OTA for this? App World still has version 1.3.0.521...
HelenSandybabe Nov 18, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Useless. Its still US and Canada only.

This is one of the top 2 apps that makes me miss my BlackBerry! I had a job interview a few months back while Beta testing this app. I had about 4 ways of getting from point A to point B. It had rained and there were accidents on all freeways. I opened BlackBerry Traffic and took the route it suggested was the fastest. I got there at EXACTLY the time it said I would! I will forever be a big fan of this App and if I return to using a BB, it will be the first app that I download!
sk8er_tor Nov 18, 2010 at 3:40 pm
You're right. It's a great app. I use it daily!
67Tucker Nov 18, 2010 at 12:52 pm
Are you sure? It still looks pretty beta to me.
Novacrane Nov 18, 2010 at 1:00 pm
Just to let people know, it will not work on the Curve 9330 with OS 6 installed. I doubt it will work on other devices with leaked OS versions.
mscrivo Nov 18, 2010 at 1:46 pm
works fine on OS 6, at least on my 9700. Use it everyday to get to and from work. This thing may be ugly, but it works damn well.
Ainen Nov 18, 2010 at 1:01 pm
I had sent it in many times over the beta, and it's still present. The routing it can give can be impossible to drive at times, telling you to make turns that one can't, e.g. no left turns across highways. Google, MapQuest and others can run the same route correctly, so how hard can it be?
djdnz Nov 18, 2010 at 1:14 pm
I really needed something like this, google maps was a bit cumbersome. With that said, this could really benefit from turn by turn, as well as it really badly needs a facelift. It may sound vain, but this thing is uglier than BB App world. Now that it's out of beta, I think it's time to let some of the graphic designers get to it.
shockwave88#IM Nov 18, 2010 at 1:17 pm
It wouldn't work for me I tried making it going home to work or houston to dallas and it wouldn't work for me?
ezhartman Nov 18, 2010 at 1:28 pm
after installing on my Bold 9650 running 6.0 leak, it just says searching for GPS on the screen...how can i fix?
TekWarren Nov 18, 2010 at 1:32 pm
How does this compare to Waze? I have been playing with Waze and I like that it has so much user based input. How does this RIM app get info on traffic and accidents?
luqman24 Nov 18, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Sucks that it only works with BB Maps and not google maps. And how is it already in the top 25 free apps when it just got added to app world, something tells me these top 25 downloaded apps and themes aren't accurate.
bluetroll Nov 18, 2010 at 1:50 pm
I'm having trouble sending "Share my ETA" to PIN recipients. Anyone else have that issue?
I'm on a 9700 with OS 6.
Phony bologna Nov 18, 2010 at 1:59 pm
I think this app pretty much encapsulates the BlackBerry experience and quandary for the average 'Berry user. The app works well and does exactly what it says it will do, but it's boring and ugly as hell. Just last night I was comparing the look and experience of the game "Battleship" on my 9700 versus iPod touch, and it really is a joke how much of a user-experience discrepancy there is. BUT, the BlackBerry app works pretty damned well, even if I really don't ever want to play it because it's just so aesthetically offensive and inferior compared to the iOS app. This is starting to feel like what I imagine the transition from DOS to Windows was like -- and we all know how that conflict ended.

This is, without a doubt, the most used app on my BB, if only because I always have it running in my car on my way to and from work. The graphic traffic bar is brilliant -- it's actually a lot easier to look (particularly when driving!) at a graphic representation of traffic rather than a literal map based view. The ETA times are astoundingly accurate, too. It's very nice to be able to leave work and have the app tell my wife via text exactly when I'll be pulling in the driveway.
curvecrack1983 Nov 18, 2010 at 2:02 pm
i like how it says all carriers and all phones but then you cant get it on the 8520 on rogers network in canada!
FrankDLR1972 Nov 18, 2010 at 2:19 pm
It works pretty well, but I can't be looking down trying to read directions while driving. Many states are even making it illegal to use your cell while drivin. Needs improvement and it is ugly as hell.
JasW Nov 18, 2010 at 3:12 pm
like Pro Clips. Attaches to the dashboard.
Ghostnyc Nov 18, 2010 at 2:21 pm
it is probably the most simple & straight forward GPS app available. It is also arguably the most accurate GPS app. I've used Poynt, Google Maps and Berry Maps and I have a Garmin Nuvi as well and only my Garmin refreshes faster and is more accurate.
Granted it may be too simply for those who are use to a more graphical UI, but the bottom line is Berry Traffic get the job done.
bbroad25 Nov 18, 2010 at 3:04 pm
Hey everyone. We've started a forum thread to discuss the app. Check it out:

I keep getting Http error:400 City does not match country. Anyone else getting it? Using Storm 2.
pastafazuul Nov 18, 2010 at 6:24 pm
Using a Bold 9650 on VZW and it has been searching for GPS for over 20 minutes? Anyone else having issues on VZW?
aguiar0016 Nov 18, 2010 at 6:58 pm
i've been using it for a while like the others thru beta. Like mentioned not pretty but it is accurate and works great. Doesn't take a long time to reroute you and the alternative route is a nice. Turn by turn is the only thing missing.
Everyone that can get it. Use it.

On Appworld, it doesn't show as available to download on a T-Mobile 9780. However, I am able to get it onto the BB from the standard AppWorld website with the sync manager. Strange behavior.
chaloney Nov 19, 2010 at 8:05 am
If I can't tell it my route then it can't tell me what the traffic will be where I'm driving. On top of that the routes it comes up with are horrible.
punges24 Nov 19, 2010 at 9:09 am
Is anyone else having a problem getting this working on a Verizon Bold? I get an error that says it cant find the gps or something like that.
snotarni Nov 19, 2010 at 11:04 am
I have mine on a BES and Blackberry Maps doesn't work.. so, every time I try to "Find" my home address I get an uncaught exception and it shuts down... any ideas?
1magine Nov 19, 2010 at 11:26 am
Blackberry application and user response. Compare thus to what comes standard on Android. Or for that matter load up the free trial of Garmin mobile.
MattDub22 Nov 19, 2010 at 12:41 pm
I wonder if these Android fanboys are calling over WiFi yet? Or have half the data compression we have. Yeah, great map buddy, but i bet it takes twice the memory and is half as effective. But hey, It's Android, it LOOKS cool. typical Android owner, "look at this app!!"
LOL!
greenii Nov 19, 2010 at 12:28 pm
Well, I guess I should have checked yesterday! Tried to get this app and got a popup saying "The item no longer has a free version of the item available or requires an upgrade."
Better luck next time!
TheEdge Nov 19, 2010 at 3:11 pm
Considering the stock drop, market share loss and bashing RIM has been getting from bloggers and BB users, they still do US & Canada only?
TheScionicMan Nov 19, 2010 at 4:01 pm
I like it and have been using it in Beta. It could use some improvement, especially in searching addresses. But it has some nice features.
Fifi22 Nov 19, 2010 at 6:22 pm
Ever since I downloaded the app there is a strange icon on my home screen, a circle with an arrow pointing down to the left with the red & white star that means new notification. What is that?

That icon means you have an update to an app downloaded via app world
Fifi22 Nov 21, 2010 at 6:57 pm
thanks, the funny thing is that WeatherBug wasn't working so I deleted it and the icon went away so I guess I had an update for Weatherbug, lol.
handscreate Nov 21, 2010 at 1:03 am
Tested it thru beta. Ain't pretty, but it works.

I downloaded for my 9330 3G and it wont work on it.
NevadaJake Feb 18, 2011 at 1:52 pm
Why does it say it is Unavailable for my 9330 on Verizon? I just transferred everything over from my Storm, but Traffic won't install :-(
