BlackBerry Tour Available from WireFly

I just came across this thread in the CrackBerry Forums tonight that's getting some interest from folks looking to pick-up the BlackBerry Tour from Verizon. Wirefly, who by the sounds of it sells a ton of devices for Verizon, put the BlackBerry Tour up for pre-order today. For new customers the price is $179.99 -- $20 cheaper than Verizon's direct price -- while existing elgible Verizon customers can upgrade to the Tour for $199.99. Be sure to check out all the details/requirements first before purchasing. You can follow the links below to learn more.

Don't you want to reward loyalty? I can't stand the way they price these phones...

I was wondering the same thing today...should I cancel my service and restart it to save $300?

By: holladay42 | Date: Fri, 07/03/2009 - 06:22

no you still will have to pay a 175 cancellation fee and a 300 equipment fee from wirefly if you cancel before 6 months

HOLD ON PEOPLE READ THIS FIRST STRAIGHT FROM WIREFLY WEBSITE

Q. Am I eligible for a contract extension?

A. Not all existing Verizon Wireless customers qualify for contract extensions. Verizon Wireless alone sets threshold rules as to who is eligible for a contract extension, as follows:

- You must be at least 11 months into your 1 year contract, or 22 months into your 2 year contract
- Your account must be in good financial standing and without late fees
- You agree to extend your contract 24 months from the end of your existing contract
- If you extend your contract length on a family plan for a single phone, all lines of service will be extended to the new contract end date of the upgraded phone line

Note that eligibility results may vary based on a variety of conditions including, but not limited to a customer's usage history, payment record, previous phone replacement, etc. Upgrade eligibility is determined by Verizon Wireless Wireless in its sole discretion. Account approval will vary.

The only reason its that price for new and not renew is b/c they are an authorized retailer of verizon not an actually corporate store so their pricing is not instituted by verizon but rather their own!

So as an existing customer who isn't eligible for an upgrade for a little while, this seemed intriguing. That is until you start to adjust the offer. The $199.99 price for existing customers is if you renew on a $59.99 monthly plan that doesn't even include the data plan, which you can't even sign up for.

If you want to extend your phone/data plan, the price, at least for me, jumped up to $279.99. Doesn't make sense that if you are giving them more money on a monthly basis that they would want to charge MORE for the phone itself. Maybe I'm missing something.

Sounds like if your not at the end of your contract it's still going to run around $500 for retail? Well I said it before and will again. For that much $$$ I can cancel my VZW contract ($175 at most). Switch to ATT, get myself a new Bold ($200) and my wife a new Curve 8900 ($150) and still be about the same as 1 new tour at retail price. Not to mention saving $40/month on the cheaper ATT plan and not having to take the data plan as my wife won't even use it! So unless VZW is willing to sell me the Tour for no more than $300 away I go!

whos fault is it that your under contract, they cant just give you a new phone when you want it. I bet when you sign that 2 year contract at att and the onyx/bold 2 comes out later this year your gonna want it at discounted price also. This is the way it works. honestly people who switch carriers just because of a new phone are foolish

By: XSFSPD | Date: Fri, 07/03/2009 - 17:34

And your point is??? Sure the same thing will apply to ATT. However it is cheaper to jump back and forth and get 2 (TWO) new phones than pay $500+ for one including the cancel fee and still keeping the same number. No biggie to me LOL.

Phone companies have been pulling these deals/scams since day one. As soon as a new phone comes out they want new customers to sign up, since they already have the existing customers money. While I am a current vzw customer im not even balking at the price since I will be getting my tour for $99 ($199-$100 every 2 credit). Then once the tour comes out, the storm 2 will come out later this year and the entire cycle will start again. It has always been like this and will continue to be (if anyone knows how electronics/technology works)..Hell look at all of the commotion iphone users caused with the 3Gs. same story, different phone, different carrrier

Try changing the plan from the default 900 minute one they offer you (Friends & Family/Family Share something with messaging); the price jumps. I have no desire to change my BlackBerry plan (450 mins, unlimited everything else), all I want to do is upgrade and renew (I'm eligible for NE2). If I try to select the appropriate plan to keep that going, the phone's price point jumps from $199.99 to $279.99. That is HARDLY worth immediate gratification. If VZW doesn't fix this Corporate Discount preordering fiasco, I'll just wait until July 12th and buy one.

Just an FYI - I looked a little more into wirefly.com. Found many complaints online, so I went to the bbb - they have had 256 complaints filed against them in the last 12 months.
