The worldwide BlackBerry 10 event is just a few weeks off now. Pretty soon we'll all be carrying a brand new device with an awesome new OS and features. Through the years we've all had our fair share of BlackBerry devices (some more than others) and seen the evolution of BlackBerry along the way. When you think about it, it's pretty amazing to see the timeline of devices that some users have gone through. Personally I've been through more than enough devices since I picked up my first BlackBerry and I've never looked back.
As we move into a new generation of BlackBerry devices however, we'll all be starting a new BlackBerry journey. Just as the original 850 and 950 series pagers did for the BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 devices will pave the way for a new line of devices. We'll get in on the ground and be able to say we've been with BlackBerry 10 since the beginning.
When I pull open my "device drawer" in my office, it's crazy to see just how many phones I've been through over the last few years. At first glance I see my first BlackBerry - an 8830WE - my BlackBerry Pearl Flip (which will always be close to my heart), my Tour 9630 and my Torch 9800. All such different devices but all special for their own reasons.
The 8830WE was my first device. I had been using an LG Chocolate and one of my former employees had just picked up an 8830. He showed it off to me one day and I knew I just had to have it. At the time, I knew nothing about BlackBerry but I did know that I had to have that phone. Sure, it didn't have a camera and looked very intimidating at first, but I didn't care. I knew that I'd get the hang of it quickly and be happy with my purchase. After a few hours of manual reading I started looking around on the internet for answers to my questions. I came across CrackBerry and jumped into the forums and never looked back.
As a bit of a fun post in our BlackBerry Nostalgia series, let's take a look back at the history of devices that our writers have used over the years. Keep in mind that we're all 100% BB adicts so the lists are quite long, you may have only had a few devices over the years but that's ok too :-)

My first BB was the Curve 8900. I loved that phone. In fact, thats the phone my girlfriend uses, and it's still going strong. I've been using a Torch 9800 the last 2.3 years. I passed on the Blackberry 7 phones because I'm only recently eligible to upgrade to a new phone. I'm waiting patiently for BB10 for my next device! And I think instead of handing down my trusty 9800 to my Girlfriend, I may get a BB10 device for her as well!
berry4life99 Nov 19, 2012 at 2:49 pm
My first BB was a Strawberry Curve 8330 (Pink Curve that my friends all made fun of me for, but that's okay), then Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, and currently a Torch 9810 backed by a Playbook w/OS 2.1.

i went a few years without a phone in protest to mainly rogers greed and my employers gave me work phones, so i didn't want/need a personal one... that is, until i got my first blackberry, the pearl 3g. LOVE this phone,... still do. So easy to type on that thing... but she needs some tlc..

It's funny to me how many of the writers tries a full touchscreen BB and never tried another. It appears they came to the same conclusion, that BB makes the best physical keyboards but the worst virtual keyboards.
Thank goodness BB10 has fixed all that. Curious to know which BB10 device each writer is expecting to purchase.

Being an Iphone user extensively since the launch of the Iphone 3G, I never knew about Blackberry until much later on. The keyboards have piqued my interest though, and the Bold 9780 without the camera was the first Blackberry phone I started using. I chose the non-Camera version because I needed a phone I could use in the army. Since then I have started getting almost every new release of Blackberry.
The list is:
Bold 9780 non-camera
Torch 9860
Curve 9320
Torch 9810
And now my daily driver is the Bold 9900

My journey on the road of BlackBerry started with my trusty Curve 8330. The constant battery pulls and never ending hourglasses were annoying, but for some reason, those quirks only grew my love for my BB. Since then I have jumped from line to line with a Tour 9630, Style 9670, an assortment of Bolds, and after my last Bold took an unfortunate exit, a Curve 9350.

I'm surprised nobody in CrackBerry had the 9650, it was a great phone & would still be using it today holding out for BB10 but the microphone went out on it. I love my 9930 but the touch screen acts up when on rooftops where I'm at during work hours, not sure why but it's very annoying so I really miss a non-touch screen at those times. I started out late in the game with smartphones but BB was my first one and it will be my last.
CrackBerry Is My Choice Of Drug

And that's my lovely Bold 9700. Never had any chance to replace it with the newer models, but seeing as it can do what I want it to do (and I know what it can do), I'd say it was a solid choice, though by chance at that.
Can't wait for BlackBerry 10 devices, though.

I haven't been in the BB game for as long as others but as long as RIM keeps making them, I will keep on upgrading year after year.

I just started using BB in 2010 so I haven't had as many BB as others, but I will be upgrading every 12 - 18 months.

I am still using my BlackBerry 7290 (same device as Kevin's 1st BlackBerry), it works like a champ, and is almost indestructible !

WOW
my first BB was a 6230, then 7230, 8700 (and fast as possible switched to) 8300, then the BOLD, and then the second BOLD ;)
Can't believe almost all of the crackberry crew started after "me".
On the other hand, usually I keep my BBs 2+ Years ;)
