Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with BlackBerry

Seriously, where did 2011 go? I know people say it every year, but I swear I blinked and 6 months flew by. The new year is just a few days away, which means everyone is getting set to party like it's 1999. (People still do that, right?) The biggest party of them all takes place in New York City, where since 1972 Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve has been held (with Ryan Seacrest as co-host since 2005). Along with performances by various singers/performers, the show provides live coverage of the dropping of the Times Square Ball in NYC's Times Square.

This is a big year for the show, as it's the 40th year it's been shown and since it's on a Saturday, the show will run for 5 1/2 hours including pre-show. This year, we are happy to hear that the show is being sponsored by BlackBerry! What better time and place to see the BlackBerry name? A new year, the new #BeBold slogan, and millions of viewers across America tuned in, ready for the fresh start that only a new year can bring. Word on the street is that BlackBerry will be running some Tweets on the big board in Times Square, so stayed tuned for updates on that as well.

How are you celebrating the new year? Will you be home watching Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest sponsored by BlackBerry (wow that's a mouthful), or do you have plans to go out? If you're brave enough to actually go to Times Square for the big event, be sure to snap some pictures and send them in!

2012 - tides will be moving again in RIM's favour, time to look forward and apply the lessons of the past.

JasW

Yeah, maybe RIM will actually release BB10 devices at the end of 2012 and keep its share of the U.S. smartphone market from dipping below 5%.

mssca

Yes, RIM should start 2012 by letting go the co-CEOs and restructuring their entire company.

Kingkracker

That is terrific! Glad to see RIM is stepping up the advertising. I have been seeing more ads lately. It's about bloody time!

El Platanero

So why is it that I get into a corny debate with an Iphone fan and when I tell her that I'm a blackberry fan she asks me "are going to get that new Bold that's coming out?" Appearantly the advertising is working because people are taking notice but talk about non existant when advertising is not done.

Keep it coming RIM. Pretty soon you will see it pay off. All the keyboard fans that have some crappy android phone because they have no idea about the sexiest keyboard on the market. Keep it coming.

Now if the would just run an ad that shows top apps like facebook, twitter, etc. as well as bb news and bb travel on blackberries ANDexplain them, that would be good.

The new Bold ad is visually nice but if you don't know bbm I think the ad tells you nothing.

Personally, I find those New Year Countdowns a bore. However if Blackberry is sponsoring, I wonder if all the staff will be rocking BB devices including the Playbook? That would be kind of cool.

Wolf35Nine

Excellent. Hopefully they will show off the social feeds feature showing FB and twitter in one window!

2012 Rimpire strikes back!!!

Beesh1

Yes RIM!! New Year is looking good!

It's about darn time! If RIM can't be proud enough to advertise their products, they sure can't expect anyone to buy their product. I sure hope they have everyone using the products.

Ryan Seacrest is on of the biggest bb addicts - it's cool to see.

Glad to see RIM fighting back on all the negative publicity that's been plaging them lately, there have been some mistakes sure but it's no way near as bad as all the blogs (Engadget, TechCruch, etc) make it to seem, RIM is not going anywhere - sometime a little competition is just what a 10 yr old company needs to re-invent/re-invigorate itself.

Abuser for 9 yrs and counting...

Yes, please go on the offensive!

Sadly most bad press is ignorant press, people who truly have never owned a blackberry and sure haven't owned a recent one. And though it is sad people think the Bold is NEW....at least they are thinking about BB!
