Plenty of time this week to check out lots of new BlackBerry Software? Why? Well, first off there have been a lot of releases... Second, it's been roughly -40 (Celsius) up here. A little too cold to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. Covered this week in the roundup are the following titles:

New BlackBerry Software: VyMail - Visual Voicemail for YouMail, StormLock, Ez Weight Tracker, BilbyFile, Wine of the Day, Platypus for the BlackBerry Pearl

Updated BlackBerry Software: tiggit mail, Profiler

Free BlackBerry Software: BilbyLight

Cool Stuff: Trapster.com, Homes for Sale

New BlackBerry Software

VyMailVyMail - Visual Voicemail for YouMail

This one has actually been around for a bit, but for some reason it has slipped through our fingers in the blogs here at CrackBerry. VyMail is a free visual voicemail client for YouMail. Reports around the web peg this one as a 'must have', especially for Verizon users (no need to sign up for their visual voicemail if you use this app... apparently!). In order to use it, you'll need to sign up for a free YouMail account. YouMail (if you haven't heard of it) is a service that you can forward to your Berry's voicemail in order to activate some pretty cool features.

So, want to get started? First, head over to www.youmail.com and sign up. Then, download VyMail OTA via http://www.joekrill.com/vymail/ota/. If you do give this a shot, let me know what you think.

StormLockStormLock

StormLock is a new app for your BlackBerry Storm (duh!) that does one simple thing... It prevents your face from accidentally touching the screen while on calls. No more worrying about making accidental screen presses while on the phone. The app automatically activates when you take a call. It's simple and easy to use, and if you've ever experienced accidental screen presses while on the phone... You'll want to get this.

Ez Weight TrackerEz Weight Tracker

Trying to lose weight? Tracking your weight on a daily basis is an effective way to motivate yourself and stay on top of your progress. Keep track of your weight anytime, anywhere with Ez Weight Tracker. Choose between standard (pounds) or metric (kilograms) units of measurements. Set target weight goals and view progress reports to see how you're doing. You can also use this app to find your ideal body weight based on your gender and height... and there's a suggested daily calorie intake tool that will let you know how many calories you should intake each day based on your gender, age, height and weight.

BilbyFileBilbyFile

BilbyFile is a simple and useful file management utility for your Berry. With it, you can view your device memory, SD card, folders and files. You can also check out file and folder properties. Finally you can copy, move, delete and rename files, folders and more. This one should work well on any Berry running OS 4.3 and higher.

Wine of the DayWine of the Day

I'm no wine expert, but if I was, or was aspiring to be, I'd probably pick up this app. Wine of the Day is chalked-full of information on all types of wine and champagne. Each day you'll get a new wine with details on the type, nose and flavor of the wine. The wines are selected from prestigious vineyards from around the world. Impress your friends, and simply improve your overall knowledge of wines and champagnes with this fun little app.

PlatypusPlatypus for the BlackBerry Pearl

Platypus is a cool game that has become somewhat of a classic for the Mac and PC. I first played it years ago on a Mac, and right away I got a kick out of the game. Platypus is a side-scrolling arcade shooter... But you'll notice when you start playing the game, there's one difference... Everything in the game looks like it's made of clay! That's right, the whole game looks like one big claymation production. Kinda cool. The game is kinda fun, and I do recommend it to any Pearl owners out there looking for a good game to add to their collection.

Updated BlackBerry Software

tiggit mailtiggit mail

tiggit mail is an email client that gives you access to your email without needing a service contract. Connect to email provides like AOL, Google Mail, Yahoo! mail and more... all from your personal or corporate BlackBerry. HTML emails are displayed in-full, and images are downloaded in the correct spots in your emails. If you're locked-out from email services such as Hotmail on your corporate Berry, tiggit can use an http tunnel to connect, allowing you to access your personal and private email direct from your corporate device.

ProfilerProfiler

Need to run different profiles on your Berry? Profiler lets you run up to 16 scheduled profiles, which can all be scheduled to activate at different times of the day. It even integrates with your calendar app for easy profile scheduling. Select start and end times for each profile, and you're off to the races. It's extremely easy to use and should work flawlessly on any Berry running OS 4.2 and higher.

Free BlackBerry Software

BilbyLightBilbyLight

Not too much new in the way of free software for your Berry this week. One app that did stand out (for free) however was BilbyLight. With this app you can, well... turn your BlackBerry into a flashlight of sorts. I have to admit I've used my berry as a 'flashlight' for a little extra light on occasion... If I had this handy little app I probably would have have more light to work with :) It's a freebie, and heck, you never know you just might need it one day, so it's worth a look/download.

Cool Stuff

Trapster.comTrapster.com

I think I may have touched on this one way back... but it's been awhile so here it is again :) Trapster is a handy service for your BlackBerry that alerts you as you approach police speed traps. If you've got a 'lead foot', you'll want to pick this up right now. Trapster uses GPS, voice transcription, geocoding, reverse geocoding, SMS and much more to communicate with a central database server.

Bottom line, give trapster a try and you might avoid that next nasty speeding ticket.

Homes for SaleHomes for Sale

Want to find that perfect new home? Now you can, all direct from your BlackBerry! From Smarter Agent, a very cool app called Homes for Sale has hit the interwebs, and so far it's looking like it's a hit! The app is free (woohoo!). Search for properties from your Berry using GPS or by entering a city, community, address or zip code. The app displays all publicly available information on home sales, including price, square footage, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and much more.

It would be cool if bilbylight could use the phones built in flash as a flashlight. But just opening Video Capture can work for that anyway.

Air Force One

I've tried a lot of visual voice mail and this is the first that seems to be working well. Just need to be able to jack up the volume even more for those people that leave messages but mumble or speak too soft.

Other than that it works great. I get an email notification of the voicemail from youmail, and then I just go to the vymail app and click sync and there is my visual voice mail! Nice looking UI too. The only issue I have so far is the need to be able to raise the volume even more for when using speakerphone mode.

Thank you for this free app!!!!

I am not able to get it to work on my t-mobile 8320. anyone else try with a similar setup.

smartagent.com/blackberry is not working for me. Any ideas on how to download?

This will be perfect companion to GPS programs to keep your screen lit up for turn by turn directions. I look forward to trying it this week with VZNavigator.

The URL is typed wrong... if you are interested in the app its http://www.smarteragent.com/blackberry

you can see the correct name of the site in the screenshot

"...it's been roughly -40 (Celsius) up here."

Ironically, -40 is the only temperature where you don't need to specify Celsius or Fahrenheit -- it's the same on both scales.

bx2md

i use trapster with a gps puck and it works great ..
and the more people that use it around your area the more accurate

JStiner

So if im understanding this correct i can disconect my service with USCC and sign up for Tiggit mail for $30.00 a month and be able to have internet and email still on my 8330 curve.

I have the pearl with VZW. The number they provide to forward your voicemail, if you use the * it forwards the call to AT&T; if you use # it doesn't allow the phone to ring before being forwarded to voicemail. I trying to figure out how to make it work because I really want this app, and need it! I'm one of those where I let the voicemail holding limit before I call to clear all of them out. If you know how to make it work, I'll call ears and thumbs! :þ

CalPolyRock

I have the Pearl on Verzion and I've been using Youmail for months without any issues. It's been so long that I don't remember, but I just followed the instructions and it worked first time. The phone definitely rings about 4 times, then goes to YouMail for voicemail.
