BlackBerry services still down EMEA, North America, elsewhere... [updated]

Another Update: You can stay on top of official service updates from RIM/BlackBerry here. The latest from RIM is as follows:

Wednesday 12th October - 9:45 (GMT-5) BlackBerry subscribers in the Americas may be experiencing intermittent service delays this morning. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience. We will provide a further update as soon as more information is available.

If you're killing time waiting, be sure to check out our BlackBerry Service Outage Sale.

Update [7:30am ET] from Kevin: Well this just SUCKS. Apparently things are getting worse before they get better. Waking up in Canada this morning my BlackBerry services are still down (lost service last night). No updated message from RIM yet on on what's going on. Looking at some tweets from BES Admin friends, we're hearing as of two hours ago that "Limited service expected for at least another 8 hours for BIS and BES Email, no word on BBM, BISB and Push API." Hopefully we'll get an update from RIM this morning and things will be back to normal SOON.

Update [Wednesday night] Canada / Mexico / US and more are now starting to report slow / delayed BBM messages.

Update [4:42p EST]: While services seem to still be down, RIM had this to say on their Facebook page:

The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated, and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we will continue to keep you informed.

Following yesterday's crippling outage in Europe, Middle East and Africa, it seems that the BlackBerry Internet Service may be down again. Although service did resume late last night, there have been signs that the service is down again already today. I for one have not received any emails on my BlackBerry in the past few hours and BBM messages are not going through at this time either.

Are you in the EMEA region and currently having BIS problems yet again? Hit us up in the comments and let us know where you stand. Hopefully today's outage will not last as long as yesterday's one -- we'll be sure to keep you updated if we find out more.

BlackBerry services still down EMEA, North America, elsewhere... [updated]

The conference call of RIM mentioned above was real PR disaster. Nothing new was said. No perspective even signed. Two questions were so generic that I don't believe they weren't from the RIM house. Third was from some SImon, who asked, if they believe, that three generous updates about the problem on FB or Twitter are enough. Short version of answer was - yes. Simon then asked, if they noticed raising number of upset customers. Answer was - we keep you updated. And the conference was ended.

In sum: They started 9 mins. later, they gave us 11 minutes of another generic nothing.

Dear RIM. WE DECIDE, what is enough. And if your last thanks-for-patience can generate 4600 (for 99%) upset comments per hour, you have clear answer about our happiness. At least your PR dpt. should be aware of that. We cannot speed up the technological solution. But you have another quickly growing backlog here: of upset customers. And this one apparently nobody is even going to fix yet.

Peter from Prague cut off his data from Monday morning

Another astonishing work of RIM media relations department - totally irrelevant warning of some hoax message spreading trough BBM.

Yes, I would be happy to have any chance to receive it yet, dear RIM!

Obviously, it broke another record on Facebook: 3800 (almost purely) upset comments generated in 30 minutes!

EDIT: It looks like somebody was fiddling with the comments there. Although number of likes is as high as under other RIM statements, two hours later they're there just 3000 comments. Miracle can be indirectly confirmed by ratio between likes/comments. Now looks (in comparison with other statuses of today) surprisingly positive. Yeap, is no tool to lower likes on FB... Next time I have to keep screenshots :-)

This BIS issue is starting to become a pain.
I tried sending a mail from my BB (using hotmail email) and it appeared to not have gone through, but when logged into my hotmail account and checking "sent" folders; it successfully went through (7 times and still counting)
I had to delete my hotmail account off my BB to stop the madness!!!

I'm in San Diego, California and both BBM and emails were not being sent since the wee hours of the morning last night. As of 1:00 PST everything is now working fine.

Internet, things like Facebook, etc. and making phone calls were never down. I didn't think RIM had anything to do with the phone service part of the phone.

I'm in Toronto Canada and with Virgin Mobile,my internet browsing works, but can't use any of my apps for Twitter,Facebook etc and my BBM is coming and going.

In Ottawa (Rogers), things are a bit better. FB, Twitter, AppWorld and Browsing are all working. BBM isn't, and I can't force e-mail to do a check, but I think its still not working right.

In Saint John NB (Telus) .. BBM is still not working properly. It worked like 10 hours ago for about 10 minutes then went back out, has not been working since late 10/11. Also facebook will randomly every couple of hours get all these notifactions coming to my phone, email also is being uber slow and randomly comes in or not at all..
hope they get this fixed soon !

Is anyone else having trouble with internet service as well ?

Vodafone UK 07:15 GMT.....Everything seems to be back, browser,e-mail,FB etc. Have to find something else to moan about now :-)

...apart from a couple of VERY late emails arriving, still nothing on UK T-Mobile at 7.30am BST...
...almost 9.10am - starting to get some 'life' now, managed to perform an upgrade of an app via App World, BeReader is working etc, but things are still painfully slow and still need to check online to see the email situation as haven't had anything delivered to the phone today yet...

Anyone know anything about Orange in Switzerland!?

:( I havent even set up my email accounts yet!(I'm new to Switzerland, and after 5 wks of not having my bb, I was SO stoked to finally get an account with BIS, and then BAM rim tells me to go suck a big one with this outage :(

I need to know if everything is running again to go bug the orange store to set up my BIS :D

Orange CH here. I am getting the BIS delivered mails now within seconds. I don't know whether this state is permanent though.

LIME Cayman - all is working for me except I'm not getting my emails pushed to BB. Other than that, thanks Mike for the message, and you can bet I'm going to remain a loyal RIM/BB Canadian user in Cayman!

Sometime this morning after 12 AM Central, my BB Bold 9780 service was restored. However, I have lived through all recent outages and think it will be time for a change with my next upgrade. Going to Android which I should have done last December.
