BlackBerry service maintenance planned, no service in the Emirates tomorrow

Research In Motion

This is for all BlackBerry users in the Emirates; service provider du has informed its customers that RIM will be conducting BlackBerry service maintenance tomorrow (November 14) and next week on Sunday (November 21) between 6 and 10am. The maintenance will be done for routine purposes, so be prepared for interruptions in e-mail service and possibly other BlackBerry services as well.

Below is the complete statement from du:

"We would like to inform our customers that RIM (BlackBerry) will be conducting a maintenance exercise between 6-10am on November 14 and November 21, 2010. This will interrupt BlackBerry email services - (send or receive messages using BlackBerry email account, view email attachments, activate email service, or request to see "more" text)."

These kinds of updates typically go quite smooth, so things should up and running before you realize it's down.

BlackBerry service maintenance planned, no service in the Emirates tomorrow

Also planned for Etisalat..

"Dear Customer,
Due to a service maintenance by RIM (The Manufacturers of Blackberry), there will be a service interruption on Sunday 14th Nov '10 from 6am to 10am. All BlackBerry Internet Service related applications may be affected during the outage; sorry for any inconvenience."

Same date/time ... Kind of strange, maybe they are switching to the new servers in the UAE ?

The maintenance will be conducted in other countries as well, but only when RIM sees it fit in order to avert peak hours. As far as I know, UAE is among the first to go through the maintenance.

Small update here: my contact in the Emirates was able to confirm that the maintenance is for routine purposes only. This is to ensure optimum BlackBerry service in the Middle East (there could be a link to the recent slow network access in Indonesia).

something seems fishy about a UAE-specific outage after all the stories in the past months about monitoring BlackBerry traffic

The maintenance will be conducted on RIM's end in other countries as well. Read the reply below mine, apparently it's happening in India as well.

just been receiving the following n no. Of times:

Sub: BlackBerry Internet Service: System Upgrade

Dear Customer,

We thank you for your continued patronage of BlackBerry services from Reliance Mobile!

We are pleased to inform you that the BlackBerry Internet Service systems are being upgraded to a higher version.

In order to facilitate this system upgrade, there will be a temporary outage of BlackBerry internet mail services as well as BlackBerry internet browser services. These services will remain unavailable between 08:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Sunday the 14th November 10.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused.

Thanking you for your cooperation.

Warm Regards,

BlackBerry Customer Care
Reliance Communications

I'm wondering only about the fact that Reliance Communications' only mentioned the November 14 date (today), but not November 21 (next week on Sunday) as service provider du did. But, as can be clearly seen here, the maintenance conducted in India happened at a different time than that of the Emirates'. It is true then, that RIM made the maintenance work in a way that averts peak hours. But again, thank you for sharing this!
