Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup Part 2: Seesmic for BlackBerry Smartphones
The second installment of our Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup brings us to Seesmic for BlackBerry. At this time Seesmic is fairly new to the scene, but it already shows tons of promise and the updates keep coming. It doesn't have an overload of features, but its speed and clean interface make it a strong player. The ability to view timelines, mentions, DMs and even lists add to the fun that is Seesmic. Check out the video above for a quick walkthrough.

...and will compare it against OpenBeak, UberTwitter, and Snaptu. So far, I like Snaptu best...it's fast, and there are no complications/privacy issues as I've had with UberTwitter. OpenBeak (a.k.a. Twitterberry) is great, too, but it's lately showing up on the Twitter site as "from the web"..which I've heard is an issue with Twitter API (though Snaptu doesn't have the same issue). Seesmic is not getting the best reviews on Blackberry App World, but most of those who seem to be complaining are Storm users. I have a Tour. We'll see what happens!

It's been said before, but it really is too band that SocialScope isn't more widely available (for whatever reason).
It puts all other twitter (social network) apps to shame IMO.

i've tried all of the others and i always come back to seesmic as it's a slim, no frills client that has all the necessary features and no bloat. as such, i have no issues with it running in the background. pretty much the only thing seesmic lacks is cute little gifs and backgrounds, resource hogs i prefer to do without.

I have to agree with "oakie" for my purposes, Seesmic is just right: small footprint, fast, no frills etc...
At this point I just use the app to check posts and usually do my tweets from my desktop. Perhaps if I get more involved with tweeting, I will re-visit the others that I have installed/un-installed (ubertwitter, twitter, tweetcaster, snaptu etc...)
But then again, isn't that what is nice about smartphones today - 'choices' each of us has a choice and not forced to use ONE application.

I see they are saving the best for last in this Twitter Round Up....TweetGenius :)

I'm rooting for SocialScope!

word.

I have sent in a million emails for help, not one reply. Notifications still not working. Also can't tell which are read and unread
HollyDolly Jan 26, 2010 at 3:31 pm
It's not too bad, BUT it's s-l-o-w. And it says that it can't find a network connection, while at the same time posting my tweet. Weird. I still prefer Snaptu, but would like to try SocialScope (when I get that darned invite!). Tweetgenius looks nice, but it won't even let you try a trial, so forget that.

I used to be an OpenBeak user but got frustrated with it being slow and it's few features. Switched to Seesmic and I am a huge fan....no looking back for me.

Period. And that's why we tweetizen out there in China have nothing to do but ignore Seesmic or OpenBeak for BlackBerry platform. Without user self definable API feature, it's a dead end due to the censored network blocks twitter.com and a lot of 3rd party twitter application sites - including Seesmic. On BlackBerry devices the most common ways to log into twitter world could be: 1, Visit twitter mobile page via Opera Mini browser with user self definable proxy server options, not the censored official version by Opera China; 2, From the 3rd party application wise, as mentioned before, only the ones with integrated user self definable API feature that users are able to modify and choose API servers which aren't blocked by the GFW firewall system, or those applications that deliver twitter messages via these applications' own servers (that's literally to say, judged "legal" by GFW since the transfered data are encrypted. ) can be used. For instance, Übertwitter, Snaptu, J1CK Tweeter, Viigo, etc. However, evidently Seesmic lacks to provide any of the two core essential features to breach the GFW, which resulted a no go for twitter users in mainland China while choosing their clients for BlackBerry but always overlook Seesmic.

And TweetGenius is by far the best twitter client on BlackBerry platform. Too bad it appears the leaked Tweeteev client doesn't integrate user definable API function either. Recently I'm worrying about the forthcoming official twitter client for BlackBerry, since instead of UI development there's no clue or certain detail to show whether it contains the features we users in China ask for.

If I were looking for a bare-bones Twitter client, I might consider this app. I'm quite pleased with UberTwitter for now, though.
donniejett Jan 26, 2010 at 5:47 pm
I think I have used them all. I currently have ubertwitter, socialscope and tweetgenius installed on my 9700. I just keep switching back and forth between these three. Used Uber so far today!! One of my favorite options now is the friend picker when you hit the @ symbol.

I'm shocked as to how many variations of a Twitter app there are - or need to be. True, some have few features at all, while others are stacked. Uber, minus the ads, has everything you could want. TG looks the best, and if they EVER get an update, it SHOULD be the best. TwiXtreme just needs a few more features, and a notification icon.
Stop hanging from SocialScopes... you know. They B.S. about the invites, and when you finally get one, it's a complete letdown for the amount of hype. Effective for what it is, though... only a few more features than Vodafone Update.
ssp81777 Jan 26, 2010 at 8:22 pm
i'll def have to try that out!
empresstrena Jan 26, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Ive tried this app and its a lil too blah for me.
Ever sine i got my socialscope invite theres been no turning back for me...that is the only twitter app i will use, and im sure anyone that uses it will agree with me...this one would be ok as a backup but other than that, not a fan.
Id choose ubertwitter over this any day...but overall Social is my top pick when it comes to twitter apps!
undermine Jan 26, 2010 at 10:25 pm
I hope they come out with Tweetdeck or Blackberry comes out with their own app. My Social Scope invite is not ever coming.
choji#cb Jan 26, 2010 at 11:00 pm
it lacks features but it seems to be much faster than ubertwitter and socialscope. if it had a keyboard shortcut to refresh and an autocomplete for usernames it would be my first choice.
JerseyDriver Jan 27, 2010 at 12:08 am
I use their Mac client, and I haven't found a better one on that platform, tried quite a few. Interested to try this one out but working on Social Scope right now (took a while for my invite) and want to see how it plays out. Also wondering if like their desktop client, Seesmic will include FB updates like Social scope does after some updating in the future.

me please
rommelh Jan 27, 2010 at 8:46 am
actually, you can get to the replies and dm's with shortcuts. alt+r for replies, alt+d for dm's.
sunrisepromo#CB Jan 27, 2010 at 10:02 am
I've tried this and I liked it, although not quite as much as I liked UberTwitter. I'm still waiting for my invite from SocialScope and I'm sick of hearing about how awesome it is (I HATE YOU ALL! lol). But as someone else mentioned, I'd love to see TweetDeck for BlackBerry. That would be IDEAL.
nagyitron Jan 27, 2010 at 10:27 am
I think so that übertwitter is better but seesmic works fine without data plan. Its simle to use, fast, i like it!
a.leah86 Jan 27, 2010 at 2:06 pm
I like Seesmic's UI better than Ubertwitter's. Unfortunately the fact that they make Replies and DMs a completely separate inbox that you have to open, so that the notification will go away, bothers me. It may be good for someone who gets upwards of 5 replies regularly, but not for me. I can read the reply in my timeline, so I don't need a separate inbox to hold them all.
If they were to change that then this would be my favorite Twitter app. I like it's simplicity.
imdakine1 Jan 27, 2010 at 2:14 pm
I DL this Twitter App and thought it was supposed to notify me when new Twits come in etc... I thought this would be like Facebook when people make comments etc... However it doesn't seem to be doing this... What I like about Facebook is being notified when comemnts are made on the front of the bb screen... I have the blackberry tour.. possibly this feature is not ready yet?? Any other free twitter app that does a push feature like facebook?? also any twitter app that let's me add from the app isntead of logging into twitter on the computer??
Rockdog97 Jan 28, 2010 at 10:58 am
I installed this on my 8310 and used it for a couple of days, but it kept locking up my phone..so I had to delete it.
It was ok while it lasted.. but I prefer UberTwitter..
cindykenward Jan 29, 2010 at 6:48 pm
I put Seesmic on my BlackBerry. It stopped working and I go NO support from the company what so ever. I am now using UberTwitter.
JoePilot Jan 31, 2010 at 9:43 am
I just switched from SocialScope to Übertwitter on my Storm 2. It's much better in my opinion. Love it.
CrackFachry Feb 27, 2010 at 12:21 am
I've installed the latest version (v.1.3.26) on my Bold 9000 OS 5.0.0.464 but haven't seen any notification icons on my replies.. I think it's a bug since their website mentioned that there're notification upon replies and DMs..
It's too bad, since I kinda like the apps. I think It's fast (faster than Uber) although doesn't have enough features (autocomplete username, tabs for Rep and DM).. But I like the clean look and it seems to be memory friendly too..
If they've sort the notification issue, I think I'll be using this app but for now.. I'm going back to Socialscope :)

This is a big concern for me not only with this app, but with all... i mean is it just safe to allow everything?
