Canadian smartphone-maker BlackBerry is still a leading spender in research and development. In 2013, the company had invested over $1.3 billion in R&D, placing it second behind Bombardier in the list of Canada's top spending companies in R&D. BlackBerry was ranked higher than IBM Canada, Rogers Communications, Ericsson Canada, and Sierra Wireless.
Despite BlackBerry's high spending in R&D in 2013, the amount was still less than what BlackBerry had spent in 2012. That year, BlackBerry had invested over $1.5 billion.
What do you think of BlackBerry's continued investment in R&D? Do you think the company's focus on research will pay off?
