We've already seen an extensive list of some new features coming to BlackBerry OS 10.3, but another cool one that we hadn't seen yet has turned up in the latest 10.3 SDK. It appears that a new keyboard shortcut will be added for physical keyboard devices, allowing you to quickly minimize apps and return to the home screen with just a single key.

We've seen quite a bit of the unreleased BlackBerry Kopi over the last few weeks, and again today it has turned up in some shiny new images. This time around the Kopi isn't flying solo, rather it's standing in side-by-side with the BlackBerry Q5 for a bit of comparison.

If you live in Canada and are looking to move into a new BlackBerry 10 device but don't have a lot of cash to throw around, the fine folks at Koodo may have just what you're looking for. Right now, on their website and in-store you can pick up a BlackBerry Q5 for only $150 outright or $0 if you actually want a plan with their Tab option. For comparison sake, the parent company of Koodo, TELUS still lists the Q5 for $425 outright while Rogers is offering the device for $350 outright. The only drawback? You only have black to choose from.

Q5

The word on the street is that Tesco Mobile (who run off the O2 network) in the UK are doing away with any additional charges for using their 4G services. The good news for us folk on team BlackBerry is that if you are in the market for a new device, Tesco sell the BlackBerry Q5 on contract. Alternatively, if you own any unlocked BlackBerry 10 handset you can stick in a Tesco SIM and you'll be good to go. The BlackBerry Q5 is of course 4G enabled so if you are within a 4G coverage area it may be worth considering.

Q5

BlackBerry already do pretty well for themselves in the Indian market, but today sees them reduce the price of the BlackBerry Q5 to Rs.19,990, which is always nice to hear. Although the new price of the lower end BlackBerry 10 handset is still higher than with legacy devices, I presume that BlackBerry India are hoping to make it more attractive for both legacy users who are soon to upgrade, as well as new users to the platform.

Nov 29, 2013 The best BlackBerry you can buy right now

Let's face it. The selection of BlackBerry devices isn't huge in comparison to the likes of Android -- but there are still a few different options depending on your needs. When we break things down, for the most part all the devices are sporting the same OS (or at least they can be, depending on your carrier) so you don't really have to base your choice off software, which is nice. What you do need to decide however is what you're willing to spend and how you'll be using your device. Are you straight up messaging or do you watch movies often? Play games or stick to social apps? Some of these will influence what device you go with, though you'll be able to do all of them on any BlackBerry you choose.

Let's take a quick look at the best BlackBerry you can buy right now in a few different categories.

The BlackBerry Q5 has been making its way to even more Canadian carriers this month. Earlier we saw Videotron add the device but now also Wind Mobile has made it available to their customers through all of their retail outlets. Pricing for the BlackBerry Q5 pretty much matches up with other carriers with the lowest offering coming in at $99 on a WindTab and the outright purchase cost ringing up to just over $400. The device isn't available for purchase online, so if you're looking to pick one up from Wind you'll need to hit the nearest location to you.

If you're in the market for a BlackBerry Q5 in the US you're in luck. Best Buy is offering up an unlocked Q5 online for $499. While it's still a bit on the high end of the price scale, at least Best Buy is making it easy for potential buyers to snag one easily. As this is an unlocked version you'll be able to use it on most GSM carriers with your current SIM but CDMA users (Sprint and Verizon) are sadly out of luck.

The devices are in stock now with a ship time of 1-2 business days so if you happen to be in a hurry to pick up a Q5 (and why wouldn't you be?) then they've got you covered.

Sep 02, 2013 A second look at the BlackBerry Q5

BlackBerry Q5

I have been rocking the BlackBerry Q5 for a few weeks now, and since it’s recently been released in Canada, I thought it might be worth a second look beyond Adam’s review of the UAE model. The short story is that I’m finding the BlackBerry Q5 offers about 80% of what you get out of the Q10 for $200 less. For anybody that’s looking to buy a BlackBerry off-contract, that should make the Q5 a no-brainer. That said, the on-contract price for the Z10 has dropped enough that it could be a viable alternative, and if the physical keyboard is a dealbreaker, odds are the Q10 price will be coming down soon enough.

Aug 17, 2013 Leaked OS 10.2.0.1323 for the BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Q5 and BlackBerry Q10

Peek

Fancy testing out a new leak this weekend? If so, you can now grab OS 10.2.0.1323 for most BlackBerry 10 devices with the exception of the STL100-1 variation of the BlackBerry Z10. As always, you have to keep in mind that this is a leak and not all things may work as expected. If you're not cool with that, then likely best you pass on this. If you're fine with that, read the disclaimer below and dive on in.

Standard you can't blame us disclaimer - use caution when installing a leaked OS like this and remember if you break your phone it's not our fault. Also, a good idea to make a backup because you're essentially performing a factory restore on your device. If you don't want to lose data, a backup is needed. You'll need a Windows PC to install these files and If it goes downhill, remember you can always wipe and restore your device.

PS: Before you ask, what's new? What's changed? How's the battery life? Is it any good? Should I load this? Why do I wanna load this? Be sure to read the forum thread, it has a known issues list. :)

The BlackBerry Q5 went on sale today across Canada for about $50 on a two-year contract or $200 on a $150 tab, which falls in line with what we were expecting. Virgin has an exclusive on the red version, and elsewhere you'll only have the black model, even though we've seen the Q5 in white and pink during the launch. Here are some links to everybody putting this on store shelves.

Aug 08, 2013 BlackBerry Q5 pricing for TELUS, Bell and Virgin
109 Comments
Peek

We've received several tweets today about the BlackBerry Q5 arriving at several Canadian retailer locations today. The device hasn't as of yet gone on sale at any of them but the stock is most certainly arriving. Over at Mobile Syrup, they've managed to score a few shots from the carriers internal systems that shows the pricing of the device when it goes on sale.

  • Telus - $425 outright with no contract or $49 with a two-year contract.
  • Bell / Virgin - $399 outright with no contract or as low as $49.99 with a two-year contract.

There is sure to be some pricing in-between with the tab offers and such that carriers offer but overall the pricing is as was expected with the exception of Telus. That extra $25 seems likely to turn people off a bit after you add in taxes and such. Also remember, if you fancy a red BlackBerry Q5 that's exclusively available only on Virgin Mobile.

Aug 02, 2013 BlackBerry 9720 compared to Q5 on video

We've seen plenty of the upcoming BlackBerry 9720 so far, and though the resemblance to the recently-launched BlackBerry Q5 is obvious, until today we've yet to see the two devices side by side.

The video above runs through the hardware layout of either device, and we can see that there are a few subtle differences, including plug placement, presence of a convenience keys, rear finish, and shape of the edge. The 9720 is also briefly compared to the Q10 and Bold 9900. Anyone that knows Russian is welcome to give us the gist of the narration in the comments.

Previously noted to be arriving on Fido and Koodo in Canada, it seems as though the BlackBerry Q5 could also be making its way to AT&T as well according to some new information posted by @evleaks, who has a pretty solid track record for such things.

The information doesn't offer up any details on when exactly or any pricing but for some, just knowing it may arrive is enough considering the amount of folks who've been asking if they could import one from Canada for use on AT&T. We'll keep our ears and eyes open for more info should it pop up.

Jul 08, 2013 BlackBerry Q5 heading to Fido in Canada?

When the BlackBerry Q5 was initially announced, it was noted to only be arriving in certain markets such as Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East though it's now looking as though Canada will be one of those markets as well. An internal document obtained by the folks at Mobile Syrup has the LTE equipped model heading to Fido at some point in August or September, just in time for back-to-school promotions. There's no pricing information to go on at this point but Mobile Syrup took a guess at it coming in at around $400, which would be the same pricing we'd expect as well from Fido.

Jul 04, 2013 BlackBerry Q5 now available from O2 Germany

Peek

The BlackBerry Q5 keeps popping up in some random places around the world and now it's arrived in Germany courtesy of O2. Judging by the website, O2 opted to not pull in any of the color variants that the BlackBerry Q5 offers but instead went for the straight up black version only.

In terms of pricing, O2 in Germany has been know to always be a little on the higher side and right now they've set the Q5 at €389 with no contract but depending on what tariff you choose, you can get the price down to less than €20.

There's a little something about the Blackberry Q5 that makes me want it. Nostalgia for that Curve keyboard, maybe? Deep down, I'm really hoping it ends up on Canadian carriers as a cheaper device so I can get one. I'm not gonna go importing one for some exorbitant amount but if I walked into a Rogers, Bell or TELUS store and it was sub $300 off contract, I'd buy one.
