BlackBerry Priv spotted running Android Marshmallow

Just in case anyone out there was still wondering whether or not BlackBerry was working on Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the BlackBerry Priv, there's now further evidence of its existence outside of the few images of devices running it that have popped up.

Looking at the video, it's pretty easy to say that with the jump to Marshmallow, BlackBerry didn't change much by way of looks on the Priv but as we know it, Marshmallow has a ton of changes deep within including Doze, App Standby and improved app permissions.

  • Doze - When your device is at rest, Doze automatically puts it into a sleep state. So your phone can still set off your alarm in the morning even if you forgot to charge it.
  • App Standby - No more battery drain from seldom used apps: App Standby limits their impact on battery life so your charge lasts longer.
  • Improved App Permissions - No need to give apps access all the time. Android Marshmallow lets you define what you want to share and when. Turn permissions off at any time, too.

In any case, I'm not going to extoll all the virtues of Marshmallow right now, we'll save that for when we take a look at the OS on the Priv once BlackBerry rolls it out. For now just enjoy the video and enjoy knowing that at some point, BlackBerry will make it available to Priv owners when they deem it as being ready. Maybe they'll be nice and help speed up the process by launching a beta for it.
