One of the key device highlights for the BlackBerry Priv, even before its official release, has been that 18MP camera shooter on the back helped by a Schneider-Kreuznach lens. While there have been many debates about the quality of the pictures Priv is capable of taking, especially after recent updates improved the camera performance, the folks at DxO Labs have now put the Priv's camera through its paces in their DxOMark Mobile testing, which is considered by many to be the gold standard of mobile camera benchmarking, and the results for Priv are looking pretty fantastic.

With a DxOMark Mobile score of 82 points, the BlackBerry Priv achieves excellent results for its photography performance. Ranking inside the current top ten smartphones in our database of mobile phone image quality, the BlackBerry's Priv now ranks alongside the best smartphone devices we've tested from Apple, Sony, and Samsung.

In fact, Priv earned the same score as the iPhone 6S and 6 Plus, and Sony Xperia Z3 Plus and scored higher than the Google Nexus 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, and a laundry list of others. High points for the Priv camera were its excellent dynamic range, strong color both indoors and out, very good detail preservation and finally, quick autofocus and useful flash for the still camera. On the video side, it earned praise for its great noise control with rich texture.
