Awesome!
I mean the playbook, not the first post.

"or you can take your chances finding one in store next week"

There will be plenty of Playbooks readily available on shelf for pickup. I don't think there will be a huge rush to get it.

Staples employee told me yesterday that my pre-ordered playbook would not be in the store till May...but she looked sharp as a marble.

Pre-ordered a 16GB PlayBook on March 28th at Staples.ca.
Was able to use a $20.00 coupon and they don't have the $5.00 recycle fee that Best Buy and Future Shop charge. So I will save $25.00.
Wonder if it will ship on the 19th or arrive at my door on the 19th?
I don't like the idea of having to wait 7 - 10 days for delivery for a pre-ordered item..

I'm gonna do an instore pick up. I think I should be able to get one at one of the retailers.

This is the first "ad" for the Playbook I have seen besides on cb.com. Sad.

Just pre-order 16 Gb online for in store pickup. Delivery date on confirmation email is 28/04/2011.... Spoke to a store employee earlier to find out if there would be any in-store stock on the 19th but he told me that they will received only suficient stock to fill the preorders.

This is in Canada.

I love BlackBerry but is less than a week and almost none of my friends have heard of the playbook.

Once again, I think stores, suppliers, etc are confusing the whole tether/bridge thing. The add calls the Bridge the Blackberry connection. Then, they say wirelessly connect your playbook to your BB smartphone...yada yada......

I don't know....just so many different things out there about what it is and what it is not. The average customer that does not come to crackberry or similar sites is in for a big surprise if they think they can use their BB for data....without paying.

$500 for a 16GB 7" tablet seems steep now considering what's out there in the market. Isn't the galaxy tab only $350 and for less than $600 you can get a 10.1" from Motorola....I'm torn

Yes, the 16GB PlayBook is overpriced.
Should be more like $400.00
The real question is, how much does it cost RIM to manufacture it?
Are they making any profit?

I don't think you can compare the tab to the PlayBook. How much was the tab when it was initially launched? The PlayBook has a dual core CPU and 1 gig ram. I read somewhere that the iPad was approximately 220 to manufacture and they have lower manufacturing costs. I am guessing the PB is around 250.00.

And Apple has more of a profit margin due to them having there own stores. That being said I would have preferred the PB to have a price tag around 450, but it does feel like a quality product.

Not that it matters, but I see that "Playbook" instead of "PlayBook" will be just as common an error as "Blackberry" instead of "BlackBerry". I wonder if it irks BB that Staples runs this giant ad and mis-capitalizes the name. I suppose if Staples sells a bunch of them, BB won't care.

You mean RIM won't care. ;)

I think RIM could have done so much better with pre-sales had they put some in store demo unit out there. My local Best Buy and Future Shop have display areas all setup for the playbook with pre-order yours today signage everywhere, but nothing you can put your hands on. Come on RIM, we are smarter than Kool-aid drinking Apple users. You just can't built it and we will buy sight unseen like Apple users do, the "we must have it because our leader says so" doesn't work for the BlackBerry crowd.
