BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Beta updated to v2.0.0.6149

If you're currently running the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 beta then you'll want to go ahead and check for system updates. Right now v2.0.0.6149 is currently available for download. The change log, while slim, does mention new laguages, updates to BlackBerry Bridge as well as multi-media enhancements, but that all seems rather standard plus -- it remains unchanged from previous versions. There are likely some security enhancements in there to block the DingleBerry exploit as well but, that remains to be seen as it is not specifically outlined. Go head and grab the update -- let us know what changes you're seeing.

No joy. Do we need to register if we have OS2 currently installed?
Jonathank Dec 15, 2011 at 10:10 pm
I have not seen the update in either way (checking updates and registering)
Yamcha Dec 15, 2011 at 10:32 pm
Yup, Im not seeing an update either..
Foppa_21 Dec 15, 2011 at 10:34 pm
Seems you have to re-register at the SDK 2.0 beta site:
https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/native/beta/register
I re-registered at the Android Beta site and have not received the update.
I'm wondering if there's a difference between the "SDK Beta" and the "Android Beta."
Yamcha Dec 15, 2011 at 10:35 pm
Thanks that worked
Jonathank Dec 15, 2011 at 10:49 pm

goranzarkovic Dec 15, 2011 at 11:39 pm
WOW! RIM stepped up their game with HTML5 standards on this version's browser! It scored 308 pts on html5test.com. Keep the significant improvements coming, us developers sure appreciate it.
BigBallsB Dec 16, 2011 at 12:09 am

bb5683 Dec 16, 2011 at 12:46 am
Kobo Books ,and Video Chat, still not working, Though the Web Browser is much... Faster, and some of the browser bugs have been fixed. OS as a whole just seems snapper! Come on Native Email,Contacts,BBM and more...! Can't wait, And please I hope RIM gets a 100% better Keyboard with Auto correction ,auto caps for starting a sentence etc.

PH1L Dec 16, 2011 at 1:16 am
I had previously installed the earlier version of 2.0 and was experiencing problems while browsing. My wifi connection is flawless but on the playbook it would continuously drop, i.e. I would be browsing the internet and all of a sudden the status bar would load half way and just stop and an error message would appear. Finally had enough and switched back to 1.0.8 and with the 1.0.8.6067 update, my wifi issues on the playbook were solved. Anyone who was experiencing the same problem installed this newer version of 2.0 and have noticed this issues being fixed? I don't want to update to 2.0 and have my wifi issues come back.
buckwylder Dec 16, 2011 at 1:52 am
my wifi seems unaffected by this latest 2.0 update
didn't even need to security wipe first, it just reconnected to my "mobile hotspot" just like it did before i updated
when going from 1.0 to 2.0, you will be updating twice.
i had to enter my pin twice, once for each update
fyi - my wifi worked after each update, because it is what i used to download the update, i didn't have to tether or side load anything
i am stoked how modern combat sound works again, in 2.0

(where's my QNX phone?!)
buckwylder Dec 16, 2011 at 1:46 am
bridge notifications for bbm work awesome with this update !!!!!!
also, modern combat sound works!!!! woohoo, oh, and dead space (probably cuz of ea's update, but still - woohoo)
sadly, madden sound still gone, requires an update from ea
mad finger or unity or whomever really needs to make samurai 2 work with 2.0, cuz that game is really fun!
anyways, love the improved keyboard, good notifications of bridged bbm, folders (missed that so much when i downgraded) and over all i like how everything is just "nicer" looking for some reason

KSavvage Dec 16, 2011 at 4:35 am
Files are visible through bridged bbm when changing display pic.
lnichols Dec 16, 2011 at 5:58 am
Glad to see they are making improvements. Sucks about Madden though. Maybe I'll wait for next update.
leafs123 Dec 16, 2011 at 6:30 am
Still no sound?
ryanlrobinson Dec 16, 2011 at 4:00 pm
Mine's still downloading, but I'm told that the Gameloft games are fixed with this updates, but the EA's and some others are not.
shimme Dec 16, 2011 at 7:55 am
keyboard settings are still missing so i still can't turn off the key click unless i mute the playbook. icons overlapping the dock icons was fixed.

mckillio Dec 16, 2011 at 1:41 pm
So, I finally got my PB last night and I'm wondering if I should get OS 2. I consider my self to be pretty technical and definitely have the expectations that certain things might not work as well. I mainly use it to web browse currently and the browser improvements seem pretty significant.
I would also love to have folders.
knightfall Dec 16, 2011 at 1:12 pm
This is minor but; with the prior version, I had an issue where the icons within folders (i.e. Bridge icons in the Bridge folder) would scroll up through the "dock" and the even the wallpaper. It was if they weren't layered correctly. This latest version seems to have corrected that issue.
Perseus71 Dec 16, 2011 at 1:49 pm
I couldn't wait any longer for folders as I have a ton of apps meaning scrolling and scrolling and oppps launch an app... scrolling... The whole upgrade was easy! I entered my pin @ the beta site... was trying to but failing at backing up my PB. Within the time I submitted my pin and failed at my backup the upgrade icon showed in DM. downloaded, installed and bam! organized my folders, tested my fav games and happy as S**t right now! There was no way I was waiting any longer
NaijaBerry Dec 16, 2011 at 8:44 pm
Ok noticeable improvements:
A2DP works
Browser loads fast, smoother scrolling
Playlists work properly now in Music
Music sync is very fast
Bridge notification opens bridge apps (although exclamation shows in the folder view)
Press Reader now shows up in appworld with 2.0, just downloaded it
New theme section button in appworld
Android mail notification works like bridge notification
Thats all i've seen so far an hour after update
pepe68 Dec 17, 2011 at 10:55 am
guys, can't seem to get the update. I re-registered as mentioned above. Stil no love. Maybe i'm doing this wrong, but I was already on OS2, do I have to DownGrade and then apply?
OK, got it running yesterday.
Registered here: https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/native/beta/register
Run the software update and voila! Everything went smoothly with no issues. All apps ran perfectly except for Android was a little slow at first, so I just decided to reboot. Run faster, it seems, and very smooth!
cwoodffr Dec 16, 2011 at 10:08 pm
I put in pin and email and got update available within seconds. Was already on 2.0
AntL85 Dec 17, 2011 at 4:56 am
