BlackBerry PlayBook Native SDK version 2.0 beta now available

The first beta release of the BlackBerry PlayBook Native SDK 2.0 is now available for developers. Along with the release, developers now have access to the OS 2.0 developer beta as an update as well as the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator. New in this release:
- Added Sensors API (magnetometer, gyroscope, and accelerometer support) (device only for now, not available for the simulator at this time)
- Added Payment Service support for subscriptions and in-app purchasing
- IDE improvements in usability, performance, and reliability
- Scoreloop SDK 1.0 Beta 1 is included - try out some social game features for your apps, such as leaderboards
While the beta OS release is "not intended for consumer use", developers most likely want to get in on it. You can find instructions for how to get started with the beta SDK from the BlackBerry Developers Blog.

Nice! good job RIM!
The link on the register your PIN page isn't working properly yet, I'm curious to see if they have updated the link to deliver a version greater than 2.0.0.3894

Does bridge work with this beta?
pmuniz Nov 24, 2011 at 6:40 pm
yes, there is no issue with bridge....
SurrealCivic Nov 22, 2011 at 2:38 pm
Most likely not if its 3894
hodula1 Nov 22, 2011 at 2:47 pm
Was able to get it. The new version is 4869, but I have not installed it yet.

PlayBook has a magnetometer?
BB_Bmore Nov 22, 2011 at 3:12 pm
2 questions from a noob with a two day old pb..1 can i still side load android apps if i install this update and 2 do i have to uninstall the previous 3894 before i install this?
BarracudaBob Nov 22, 2011 at 3:19 pm
Looks like I'm not the only one who figured there was an OS update with this. At 460MB it should have a lot in it.
Thunderbuck Nov 22, 2011 at 4:07 pm
As much as I would like to see a wider availability of interim releases, I'm at least happy to see RIM is still working on things.
News like this is helpful ammunition whenever someone tries to (re-)start the rumor that the PB is dead.

Nice! Looks like Blackberry Bridge is functioning again!
Anyone else having issues with loading Android apps?
shiekoselim Nov 22, 2011 at 5:03 pm
Yeah! haven't tried the blackberry bridge option, looks like its working for many people. My android apps aren't loading up though, which kind of makes this update useless from the previous.
DaveTheA Nov 22, 2011 at 4:36 pm
Somebody please punch me....I'm starting to feel optimistic again!
BB_Bmore Nov 22, 2011 at 4:39 pm

chrism_scotland Nov 22, 2011 at 5:42 pm
Take a read of the thread in the forum, it seems a security wipe will fix this and give you Android Apps access again
balding1 Nov 22, 2011 at 6:22 pm
Security swipe fixed my issue with android apps not loading.
Good stuff Rim make a update as difficult as possible.
BB_Bmore Nov 22, 2011 at 6:39 pm
I think that only applys to the first 2.0 beta.
balding1 Nov 22, 2011 at 6:45 pm
fixes the problem @ 2.0.0.4869 also for loading the android apps.
BB_Bmore Nov 22, 2011 at 7:58 pm

oneilka Nov 22, 2011 at 6:18 pm
Dead Space would not load with original 2.0Beta. Anyone know if that is working in this update?
Thanks
1DM1 Nov 22, 2011 at 8:54 pm
Anyone else having a problem with the facebook app not loging in?
dalles Nov 22, 2011 at 9:01 pm
Worked fine for me.
dalles Nov 22, 2011 at 9:00 pm
So far from limited exploring of the latest update I noticed the following.
1. Dead Space still does not work.
2. Keyboard options panel is blank.
3. Bridge works but I experience the occasional cannot connect to server error.
4. Android apps not working and I'm not in the mood to try a security wipe.
FIVEFIFTYWHAT Nov 22, 2011 at 10:03 pm
(2)keyboard option blank
*also on keyboard, Return key is now an Arrow
sashas Nov 23, 2011 at 9:04 am
After performing a security wipe the Playbook decided to download and install ~200MB more for the update. I'm guessing that had something to do with the Android player.
My Android apps work even better now under the new build!
bbfan1040 Nov 24, 2011 at 7:26 am
Me too. Seems faster too.
pmuniz Nov 24, 2011 at 6:44 pm
when typing a new address in the bar, must select all.... with the previous version, by only touching the address the old address were selected and you can write the new address.....
