Too little too late???

If it was launched when announced, then we should've been expecting the PlayBook 2 this summer.

I'm done anticipating. I'll decide if I'm going to get one when it launches. Meanwhile, I'm not holding my breath.

Assuming that's true, the correct solution is not, "Oh, let's just launch it later!"

This is most likely the 4G version, notice the 4G logo on the bottom right. So I don't think that applies to the wifi versions. Also I remember RIM saying the 4G version will be available this summer so this does make sense.

Alex ‘luqman24,’

Alex from RIM here. We just announced a launch date for the Wi-Fi version of the PlayBook this morning, and it is scheduled to be available from all Best Buy stores and Best Buy Mobile stores in the US, as well as Best Buy and Future Shop stores in Canada, on April 19, along with a variety of other outlets. 4G models will be available later this year.

To pre-order the BlackBerry PlayBook you can go to Best Buy online http://bbry.lv/gdlM9R or stop by a Best Buy store near you today.

Cheers,
Alex, RIM Social Media Team

exactly but why they annunce a device when its far away from being done, for me it has lost all the hype.

Posted by jetstreamblue Monday, Mar 21, 2011 428 days ago

To give developers time to make apps for the device before it launches.

I've got to agree with ajtouchstone and wguzman. If PB wasn't ready it shouldn't have been announced. I have a feeling alot of people will get fed up waiting. Why not just announce a date (and more importantly a price)?

Die-hard BB fans will hold out i'm sure, but alot of those on the fence/not BB die hards may opt for one of the many android tabs or the iPad2. RIM may have missed the boat on those waiting for a non-iPad tablet.

Why is it that people don't realize that if they didn't announce it when they did, a lot of people may have already purchased a competitors tablet as opposed to waiting for the PB. I know I am one of those people.

Sweet. I think that makes nine of you.

Come on RIM, the longer you make us wait the more selection on the market. I was at a family dinner yesterday and the parents were all talking about buying the iPad 2. I told them to hold off and wait as better tablets are coming. They are all going to do a tour of Europe in May and want a tablet to take with them. Us kids ( in our 30's ) were trying to talk them out of the iPad 2 no flash and it's just a giant iPod.

Hi ‘makaveli28,’

Alex from RIM here. Go ahead and tell your parents that they can get their hands on a BlackBerry PlayBook on April 19. We just announced the date this morning, and it’s scheduled to be available from all Best Buy stores and Best Buy Mobile stores in the US, as well as Best Buy and Future Shop stores in Canada, along with a variety of other outlets.

I seen that like a week or so ago. Actually like last friday.

Agree sick of waiting and the RIM guys are starting to look childish with the "Q1", "soon" stuff. Just the date please, sick of playing this child's guessing game. 10 days from end of the month I think the date can be announced now.

Buying a new tech toy should be a serious business for everyone, considering you're pouring a significant ammount of cash into the thing. But seems that most people want the thing before the "Hype" is over and not beacuse it's an exceptional piece of gear.

Shame though, in this regard, people who buy an iPad just because they're tired of waiting for the PB, are just throwing their money on something useless. But then again seems that iPad buyers have a lot of money to throw out, cause in 10 months time they'll be lining up for a paper-thin iPad3 with no exceptional upgrades.

Understand your point but I think it's pretty risky for RIM. At some point the date of the PB release in USA will be leaked, and then the announcement will be old news or no news. There are only two important places that will sell this. Best Buy and Amazon. If the date for either one of them is leaked I'll be happy and I will no longer pay attention to any press release or live announcement about the playbook.

Hi ‘Yemson,’

Alex from RIM here. You’re right; tablets are serious business, and people interested in getting their hands on a BlackBerry PlayBook can do so on April 19. We just announced the date this morning, and it’s scheduled to be available from all Best Buy stores and Best Buy Mobile stores in the US, as well as Best Buy and Future Shop stores in Canada, along with a variety of other outlets.

Sears Canada has a "coming soon" ad on their website for the Blackberry Playbook. First time I found an ad for it. No dates, just "sign up for more details" http://www.sears.ca/catalog/electronics/1492

[paraphrasing any number of people] "Why wasn't it released when announced, now people are bored and won't buy it..."

You have to remember, while CB does have "a lot of people" there are many... MANY more out there who probably have not even HEARD of the PB yet, so when the true release comes they will be pleasantly surprised and more than happy to go grab one. While I didn't get a network smart tablet, I did pick up a Nook Color from B&N. Yet, I will still probably grab the PB when it comes out.
