Slammer, I was just on OfficeMax.com and they are out -- says they are "discontinued" when I tried adding any of the models to my cart.

diablodvs7

You sure? I've just gone straight through to checkout with no sign of a problem

mccs

yup. just refreshed and tried again and no joy. good for you for getting through!

EDIT -- I put in a different zip code for giggles and it worked. Guess it's unavailable then for my zip...?

elibohnert

works for me to :)just dont have the 299 :(

RyMac04

Also Free Shipping with the OfficeMax offer. tried every other coupon code i could find to get that extra $50 off but nothing worked.

For some reason I would pay $250 in heartbeat but not $299.

Wish I could get this, but i live in UK. I'm in US next week so would def. get this if I could collect it from somewhere, but they can't guarantee this. I'm hoping of a good price from Staples or similar store when I come over.

elxavi

when are we going to see discounts like these for the 32GB and 64GB i wouldn't mind paying $349 for the 64GB.

Purchased through the site mentioned above. Paying taxes for $399 and waiting for the $100 MIR from Staples wasn't worth it (MHO)

gsansone

For a 16 gig unfinished tab? Still too much.

I have a 32gb Playbook and really like it. But if I knew then what I know now, I might've held off buying one....

I will be fine with the PB that I ordered today via 1saleaday.com due to my needs. I purchased it to replace my pen and paper when I am at walk-throughs with potential clients. This will make my tour of the properties much more pleasant and if I have to record anything (audio / video) I can just press an icon and utilize the camera or mic. Who am I kidding, with the power of this baby I can just fire up all three just for kicks :o)

at a time when the 99XX cost $250-$600: the PB is justified at $299+tax (when the MIR is not in the picture). Paying tax for a $399 then waiting 2 or so months for a MIR is not ideal. Can't wait for my PB to arrive. I have a walkthrough scheduled with a government entity on October 6. It'll be cool for me to walk in with a PB :o)

$299 looks like the new regular price, sweet!

protomaxxx

koool1

Like what? Oh ya - you get to buy lots of content from Amazon!

HTC_Droid_EvO

Yea just get a Kindle like protofa said...Playbook blows

For those considering a Playbook. Take a look at Staples as well. I just picked up my fourth Playbook for 249.00 after a 100.00 mail in rebate.

I got a Playbook for my wife and one for myself at launch and both of us love it. I understand that it is light on content but they do have enough apps to keep me satisfied and the hardware quality is 10% better than the iPad2. If you consider an iPad2, take a look at the speaker on the thing. Then see how their processor is 10% slower than the Playbook. The Playbook also has better cameras and just feels great in your hand.

I welcome more content but I have a book reader and with the full web I get to read any Bloomberg or other news source with no problem. The Facebook app is also better on the Playbook because the guys at Apple can't agree with Facebook on a deal. The video chat app is awesome and I use that almost daily with my wife and kids. The video screen is just amazing and frankly the size is great.

For 249.00 you can buy two Playbooks for the price of one iPad2 and that is just amazing. Honestly, I'm sure some fantastic app will make it to the Playbook as they keep coming every day but to go for an iPad2 would be a lost opportunity in my view.

I've had this tablet for a while and love the Playbook. You should go buy TWO at Staples and if you don't like it then return them within 30 days. But my bet is you won't because if you don't listen to the haters and just see it for yourself you will be amazed. We love it.

As for the Kindle Fire, it is a nice content device but I'd rather not carry that plus a camera or video camera to capture a moment when my kid is playing football. It does not even have a mike and the speakers are not as good. If you don't need a tablet but want an awesome book reader then it is a good deal. However, for 50 bucks more you get the full deal. I can watch amazon movies on the Playbook right now. Why should I give up video chat to get the Kindle app when I can use the Amazon web-reader. I can read the few books I've purchased from Amazon on my Blackberry Playbook right now.

One last yet obvious advantage. If you have a Blackberry phone you can use the bridge app to get internet, e-mail, BBM, etc. and don't need to pay more. You also get 8 more gigs of memory. They just are not the same device so it is not fair to compare them really.
