BlackBerry is being a little coy in their announcement but with the tag line 'See the bigger picture' it can only really mean one thing. We have launch party and announcements coming for the BlackBerry Passport.

On September 24, all eyes will be on BlackBerry as we host exclusive, invite-only events in Toronto, London and Dubai to show off… well I guess you'll have to wait and see.

You're not fooling us BlackBerry. We've been waiting for months now for this announcement. Needless to say, we'll be coming to you from the event in Toronto (and probably London) so mark your calendars, save the date and we'll be bringing you more soon.

I've just spent 5 minutes reading through a page and a half of comments that have absolutely nothing to do with the article, just a bunch of ball lickers jumping up and down trying to get Kevins attention, yet certain people on here get their panties in a knot every time someone posts a first comment 'because it doesn't add anything to the conversion'. I'll take the 'first' comments any day.

This could be said both ways, blaize will never be Kevin, likewise Kevin will never be blaize :)

For what, Apple will say they are innovating the smartphone industry and the media will believe it anyway. Even thought they will announce what other phones can do for many years before. Then again people believe whatever you throw them, show them an iPhone 4 and tell them is an iPhone 7 with whatever features you may think of, and they will say waoooo that's a great phone and, that's innovation... blah, blah, blah.

Z10STL100-3/10.3.0.1052 on AT&T

It's great timing, I reckon.

If Apple announces on the 9th, there is enough time for the hype to wear off (two weeks), but still enough buzz around and hunger for news in the air, ....

( If the iPhone disappoints only slightly, people will be looking around, "was that all.... ?" and BlackBerry will get its chance.... )

 BlackBerry? I premdict the future's gonna be chenomenal! 

I understand all the iCrap that will get most of the attrntion. However, let's not forget that: we are aming to a different segment, so all the hype surrounding them should not affect us nor our target group. We should not expect the general media to be covering much of our story, just the few key media segments BlackBerry will be inviting. And last but not least, we are not launching the phone in the states, so that's is a huge turn from BlackBerry on their backs and a message saying "we don't care, we don't need you either".
Anyways, can't wait enough for the 24th... I need to have that phone by years end and return to the mighty and powerful keyboard. But this time around on a phone that will certainly get people's attention everywhere we take it. And that's goooooooooooooood!

Posted using the fabulous 10.3.0.1052 on my Z10

The problem with all this "different segment" stuff is that it only applies to BlackBerry. Not Apple. The iPhone will be appealing to those that BlackBerry is aiming at for PassPort.

So what sucks is I won't be able to make the Toronto event!

A bunch of our tech team is flying into Winnipeg that week for a Mobile Nations Hackathon. It's been on the calendar for a while now. Happening at my place... so I can't not be here.

Will be weird not being there for it. CrackBerry will have to do an AMAZING job covering the event so I can get my fix too!

Kevin,

When can we hear yo on Vector again speaking all things BBRY! I thought you mentioned there was one coming up but I didn't see it listed on the Podcast portion of the Crackberry App. I need this in my life and needed it yesterday.

Kevin: Are you saying hackers are not trustworthy enough that you couldn't leave them at your place?

"Fly Eagles Fly" | White Q10 on VZW from Philly

OK, So I will get my camera and take VERY good notes and hit up the Toronto event for you! Just float me those tickets ma maaaan! No really. I will cover the event for you! Just would very much like to go. What do you say KM?! Freelance correspondent?!

Well, no. Can't Rene or somebody replace you for the Hackathon...I mean this is the passport, blend, 10.3 all and all announcement stuff. You sort of have to be there. like really.

Kevin can handle Toronto, Bla1ze can hold down London, and I'd be happy to holler at all of you from Dubai...

"Fly Eagles Fly" | White Q10 on VZW from Philly

Yes! But I heard we won't get it in our hands till late October early November. Europe is getting it first. Anyone else heard this?

Posted via CB10

Chen seems to me like an incredible QB for the stock price to move much higher, think about it on the 24th stock gains+5%,then the ER with some half decent #'s because I believe they won't have to pay +600 million for loyalties they were paying in the past.Another +10%,I want to see some #'s for the Z3 sales,I hope they're good.See the bigger picture ,could mean phone sales are not that important.

This is correct in respect to the information I have. N4BB also reported this and I confirmed it locally with a Wireless Wave rep. Of course, it is all still speculation at this point but so far my estimates and the information I gathered have been more or less spot-on.

Europe and Asia gets it first, late October, then availability expands to North America, mid to late November.

Posted via CB10

I feel like I'm coming down with a 24 hr bug that will likely get very serious on September 24th and which will cause me to have to take time from work.
Looking forward to this.

Not at all. I retired my Q10 and I have said that if the app situation changes that I would use it again. I said I was interested in this phone. To me, I prefer a physical keyboard on a BB, it's one of the things I loved about BB devices.
I was done with BBOS, I was meh on the Z but I love my Q and I love the BB10 OS. So I am interested in the Passport.
My hope??? That BlackBerry native apps will reappear in BBW. That is the day I will either fire up my Q10 again or buy a Passport.
For now, due to the shift in focus away from native Built for BlackBerry apps, my Q is in fact retired.

Well I don't think native apps will improve unless BlackBerry increases it's market share significantly. I don't see that happening anytime soon, so you have a lot of time to spend with your iphone. PS.....say hi to the Hollywood Babe's for me......lol. Apple and the icloud are forging ahead with IBM bringing a new meaning of security......Oopps!

Yes, you are the only one. That's OK. Less sarcastically, the timing is about right given Samsung's, HTC's and Apple's announcements over the next ten days. Got to stay clear of that vortex.

No you are not the only one. Really upset over the late date. This means at least 2 more months until we can buy one, probably even longer. Unbearable.

Posted via CB10

"Quickly" for BlackBerry is about 1-1.5 months. Don't expect it for at least 4 weeks post the announcement.

Posted via CB10

It's more than just releasing the passport. It's about releasing 10.3, Blend, BES12......so it's better for BlackBerry to have its ducks in a row than to just throw it out there.

Posted via CB10

Sorry, no excuses. I don't care for any of them. The phone should be available in all major markets no more than a week after the announcement. Oh and, they have already delayed the announcement. Originally it was supposed to be early September.

Posted via CB10

If those other elements is what keeps BlackBerry afloat, then you should well care about them, indirectly...

... if the Berry drops off the vine and the vine withers, then it's no more devices....

Will you be hosting the Crackberry meet up to coincide with the launch in London?

If so when and where?

Early octoberm the PAssport is expected to be available at my distributo so it shouldnt be long from now on...

Looking forward to leaks coming soon so that I can load 'em onto my STL-1. (Can't afford the Passport) .

BTW, welcome back Kevin.

And then create your slogans and couter-arguments out of the material you've gathered...

So people can really see who's got the bigger picture :-)

 BlackBerry? I premdict the future's gonna be chenomenal! 

Great News !! I just hope it will be available for sale immediately after the launch. Launching a product and then putting it in the hands of consumers via sales are two different things. But they are very essential things as Apple has perfected. Hope it goes on sale unlocked on the shop blackberry website. The orders am sure will be quite surprising. Good luck BlackBerry.

An unlocked device will be welcomed, however if carriers get their way, that option might be delayed because carriers want to their piece of the pie first, which is to be expected of course.

It's invited event only. No offence BlackBerry, you can't afford to be invited only. Otherwise you will have your employees dragging their three years old just to make up for the numbers. Stop playing hard to get! See those pre register customers you got? How about sending them the invite?

You might be expected to fly to your "regional" event, which is in Dubai... ;-)

Actual release / availability in store not known yet.

Picture this....24th September 2014, BlackBerry announces the Passport, Classic, Blend and BES 12 and tops it off right there and then with an announcement that both the Passport and Classic are immediately available for sale in Toronto, London, Dubai and the rest of the world the next day!!!!!!

What a dream.....

The great merchant city of Revelation!? The modern Babylon?
I find this scripture intriguing...

------------------

Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,...

The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,...

And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
- Revelation 18:10,11,12,15,18 (KJV)

My impeccably preserved, 10 month old Z30 goes up for sale the moment Rogers in Canada makes the Passport available!

http:// twitter.com/ForrestBivens

I was just at Rogers......I asked if they were going to carry the passport.....he looked confused. Then he went online to see what the hell I was talking about. He looked at me and said he has not heard of anything yet.

Posted via CB10

Girl at the source for Northern Tel (Bell) told me they are getting the passport but no eta yet. Bell on twitter said they had nothing yet.

And BBM / BES for Windows Phone (finally)
makes the picture complete...

No buddy who has an iphone is going to buy a BlackBerry device nor a passport anyhow. It really doesn't matter when BlackBerry releases it in that regards.

Posted via CB10

Good to BlackBerry!! Apple will be releasing its same old iPhone with only increased screen size :p on September 9th, looking forward for BlackBerry's innovative passport ;)

Posted via CB10

Still puzzled as to why they don't include a launch event in East/S.East Asia and Africa for these launch events -- regions which they still have a sizeable following.

Smart move maybe? Let everyone else get buzz early in the month then get your when theirs have died down. Sometimes being last is better. Hopefully, they can put emphasis on where they beat the competition. We shall see.

I should have been weaned off hope by now, for a timely US launch, but I can't help it! At least Toronto is in North America! I never missed a NYC launch event back when America mattered to BB. My favorite was the year with Lance Armstrong. I haven't been this psyched for a new BB since the 9810!

Well, there are 6 days left in September. That's like 1/5th of the month. *rollseyes*

Posted via CB10

London is good - that means the UK and mainland Europe get it first. If it's not available in Germany right at the start I guess I will live with the English keyboard and buy it from amazon.

Posted via CB10

So we gonna get this in TO by end of Sept. Hope Telus do right by us...my Z10 is crapping out just in time for this

I really liked passport but I will be taking wait and watch approach.

As I have already burnt my hands with Z10. I bought it 2 3 after its launch in india. I spent 43k but now same phone being sold for 18k and exclusive stores are ready to negotiate on 18 K too

SO THIS TIME WAIT & WATCH

Posted via CB10

Don't worry, about a month after release it will sell for 20% less than launch. You wait for a but longer and save half-off.

Posted via CB10

It's really hard to predict the price drops of passport. Unless otherwise they have plans to Come out with full touch screen . Then they will dump this ad they are dumping z10 now ;)

Posted via CB10

Bad timing. By the time Apple, Samsung and HTC are done launching their products, many wait and watchers would have made their decision. Need to capture new buyers to increase market share.

Posted via CB10

Or they can't make up their mind.

You either

1) launch (a lot) earlier (whatever that may bring)

2) launch with them when the hype is up (and you might get drowned out)

3) launch when the hype has subsided and the more rational people are making up their minds...

Looks like Chen went with 3)

 BlackBerry? I premdict the future's gonna be chenomenal! 

Chen have made a smart move. Launching near apple event will see the biased media completely ignoring passport.

Posted from my Black Beast Q10

Looking forward to it. It's a bit of a drive down to Toronto but it'll be worth it! Also looking forward to the complete unveiling of 10.3!

Posted via my love powered Q10

LOL really now ? i thought you'd be working at work...but it's a new BB announcement, so that's all good !

I'm more likely to be able to take off work for a live streaming of this than the birth of a child.

I have more friends because I do drugs!!

Learning what? They have not had a timely release of a BB10 phone in the US. They need to bombard the US wth the phones and with marketing. Letting Apple and Samsung have all the press in the U.S. will cause even more people to believe BlackBerry is dead. There is no carrier support in the U.S., they need to create their own excitement and force carriers to jump on the bandwagon. To me, it seems no matter who is guiding the ship they still have not learned from the past. If it takes months to hit the U.S. market the price will be as others predict and half of the Sept 24th price.

A launch site in Los Angeles, CA wouldn't be a bad idea.

Looking at the news media this morning all I saw in regards to phones is the iphone 6 launch next week along with the announcement of the iwallet which is a retail payment method working in conjunction with the credit card companies. This payment system will utilize the NFC sensor in the 6 phone and you know the rest.

Hacking this system would be more significant than capturing celebrity nude photos.

BlackBerry should get a hold of Visa, Mastercard and Amex as well and demonstrate that security is what BlackBerry is about.

Posted via CB10

The problem is no US media will show up and provide any coverage. This is like the music industry. Very difficult to penetrate the US market. Lesser known musicians have to launch their music in UK, get on the charts, bring it to Canada and cross border to US eventually.

Posted via CB10

Seems like it will be lost in the iPhone launch. Figure Sept 9th for the announcement, and likely 23rd for release. I know they are not for same target market, but this will bury any Passport chatter from tech blogs IMHO. Doubt full the US will see availability until November too I'd recent history is repeated.

Posted with a BlackBerry Z10

The Passport quite obviously but maybe something else too? Like the unveiling of blend?

Posted via CB10 from my Z30

I think BlackBerry Should have announced the launch date just following couple of days after the Apple launch, because if iPhone 6 goes on sale earlier then passport, then it would cause few damage to Passport sale.

The current speculation floating around is that it(they, if the rumors are to be believed)will drop on 9/19, which makes sense if you take into account previous announcements and release dates. By the 24th, most of the news regarding the iPhone(s) will have been written, leaving some room on the radar for BlackBerry. Of course, by then, rumors/news about the October Apple event will be in full swing.
