The Porsche Design BlackBerry P'9982 hits the web on video

By James Richardson on 11 Nov 2013 04:55 am EST

We've know about the rumored Porsche Design BlackBerry P'9982 for some time now. 'Allegedly' hitting retail stores prior to November 20th the re-designed Z10, for those who can afford it, will certainly make them stand out from the crowd - the same way as it's predecessor, the P'9981 did.

The P'9982 has now made it's way to the internet in video form thanks once again to a certain site in Vietnam. It's certainly a nice looking version of the Z10, but of course will come with a premium price tag.

One thing I'm particularly pleased with is that the BlackBerry 10 icons have not been altered. If you remember - the P'9981 came with a Porsche Design theme so each icon was unique, compared to the other BlackBerry 7 devices. With themes not being available on BlackBerry 10 it's nice to see (from my standpoint) that the icons remain the same as on all other BlackBerry 10 handsets.

We'll bring you more news on the P'9982 when we can. Hopefully BlackBerry will be kind enough to send one over to me so we can do our own video. Of course that wasn't a hint BlackBerry!

The Porsche Design BlackBerry P'9982 hits the web on video

My Z10 Limited Edition is red already. I like Porsche Design. It's premium and yet feels very active. ;)

as i mentioned, ferrari it.
doesn't mean just paint it, specced it and made it the way porsche z10 does. make it look more premium with possible different shade of red. a ferrari red.

I don't really understand why your getting your knickers in a knot.

This is for Porsche.

Each new BlackBerry 10 device fills a segment.

Didn't sound like anything was in a knot.

I have an issue with RIM/BBRY continually diluting their efforts with these one-off strategies that do NOTHING for their so called prosumer, enterprise, corporate base. Meanwhile almost a 1$B of unsold z10s are sitting in warehouses having been written off. So a Porsche phone is a good idea?

Here's a challenge for you fanbois: point me in the direction of the metrics associated with these particular version of hardware. Any data out there? Any numbers at all? How many devices were sold last time? Any profit? What is the strategy with this model?

he said the specifications of this phone are not the same as Z10, they may be the same as Z30 and its internal storage is 64GB

of course, I know that Z30's internal storage is not 64GB but the Porsche Design's is. Other specs of this Porsche Design may be the same as Z30. I haven't read his post, I just watched the clip. Those are what he said. I'm Vietnamese and I do understand what he said (in Vietnamese) but my explanation in English might make you misunderstand, sorry for that.
PS: One more thing that I still not mention is that after opening the back door, you can see the 2 slots. One is a SIM card slot and another one is NOT a SD card slot, it's an unknown slot.

No problem, I miss read.
And your English is very good.

64GB internal would be nice.

BlackBerry should not have anything under 32GB internal in any of their phone's. 16GB in this day and age is just not practical especially if they want to sell lots of Apps...

Take care.

He said in the video that he double checked the setting and it indicates free internal storage was about 60GB. It's either that or the narrator was mistaken...

Doesn't look good. But looks better than the Aston Martin phone... much better.

This guy 's hands are very small or this phone is larger than the Z10?

Or is it just that is too early in the morning and I haven't had my coffee yet?

Vietnamese are well known for their distinct Spanish dialect.

Why would you spend 2grand for a redesigned Z-10 that doesn't even look better than a Z-10???....WHY???

Written with my awsome Z-10.

I cannot understand what the issue is that people have with the production of these phones. Apparently there is a market for this type of "premium" device for those that want to stand out from everyone else. It's not large but BlackBerry needs to refocus and re brand it's image and what better way to do it than have a phone branded by an iconic car maker.. it makes more sense from a marketing perspective to me than not having this phone at all.

The Porches idea is a stupid one! Very stupid!!! Not for a distressed company like our beloved BlackBerry.. Misplaced priority I will call that

Posted via CB10

I don't see why people are getting upset about this device.
It will neither help nor hinder BlackBerry at all. It's a novelty device for people with mega bucks to show off to their other mega bucks friends. It will get no coverage elsewhere and most people won't even know it exists.
Let's focus on the more important issues facing BlackBerry and it's future.

CB10 on my Z10

So it has an extra, large hole on the back through which dust can get to the inside the phone.

Fable Publishing: C0012255F

Instead of polishing BB10 and making the existing devices rock solid in terms of battery life and performance etc. they just push another bunch of expensive crappy iterations just to meet some stupid market quota. Fuck logic

never was addicted to the porsche design, this phone is simply ugly to my eyes.

Posted via CB10

Yuk! Can't see the point, why would anyone want this when the Z30 is cheaper and has a higher spec?

Posted with my Z10 via CB

So this phone is made with a leather backing, chrome or polished metal side, and some felt/suede on the front. Same specs and same user interface, for around 2,000? Not worth it for me. Only way I would have this device is if I won it.

On a side note if they are making this, then obviously the previous generation was a success and they want to continue it with high end clientele.

I like the premium look of it but danm! Thats one thick phone !
It looks even thicker than the z....

What exactly is the point of this model...other that tickle rich people's fancy and remind the rest of us what we can't afford to buy?!

Winter Is Coming

what if... it was a z30 hardware - with z10 screen... that would be a timely "porsche" device

Looks like it has way more bezel than the Z.

What a time wasting distraction for a company that has lost its way with no focus or any idea how to market their mainstream products. Plus it's ugly.

Man. People all upset about a phone they might never ever see in person. This phone is targeted to a niche market that doesn't really care about aesthetics. I spent 2 years living in between Doha, Dubai & Abu Dhabi; places like this are where this phone will be purchased. I have no problem with the phone, other than not being able to afford it. Wish I could get my hands on one.

The casing on that macbook in the background is serious! I've never seen that before.

It uses a camera similar to one found on an iphone. (metal ring). Too bad they didn't wait and make a Z30 version. I hope BlackBerry comes out with a Qwerty companion to the Z30 and soon, now that I mention it.

BBW Lovers Unite- OOLONG. The Eye of The OOLONG :C00121B8B

Gluing a scrap piece of rag on the chin is not something I would do to a phone with the word 'design' in its name.

In the video he also said he had this phone for a while now and it's been running 10.2 since he received it. The leather backing should be gator/croc leather in the production model.
And as others before me mentioned, it comes with 64gb internal and he doesn't know what that slot/mechanism is for.

It's a z10 with different end caps. They should be more creative. Looks a lot thicker too for some reason.

I am enamored by the physical look of it. This should appeal a lot to wealthy customers who want to stand out and trust me, there are many such customers who would be willing to fork over the cash to snag one of these bad boys. Granted, I am not part the intended consumer audience, I can certainly appreciate the physical beauty of the phone, irrespective of the price. I like the bulky nature of the phone, and as someone once said, I like big butts I can not lie, you other brothers can't deny! ;) Go BlackBerry!

Why pay so much for a phone that looks like it weighs 2 tons and is ugly? Looks like it does the same as the z10 just bulkier? Why not make the porsche version like z30?

Posted via CB10

Please let this come with an HDMI dock and a suitable case. I'm all over this is that happens.

By the way, I saw this in the Harrods gift guide over a week ago at £1500.

Looks like the back is going to be Croc skin or something similar.

The metal bezel looks nice even though the narrator said the chrome layer started to peel off. This must be because it was a concept unit. I think the real unit may have the real stainless steel bezel.

Post via CB Z10

Looks like it might be packing a much larger battery than the Z10 because It looks much thicker. If it does and has other specs bumped up I think its quite clever. The design is a bit unfortunate to me but then again beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Z30, Q10, iP5

How come these leak videos are always from Asian speaking people? No one who speaks English can get their hands on an advanced device? Not trying to be racist by any means, I just wish I could understand what they are saying.

BlackBerry 10 United

It does seem a wee bit thicker. Could be a heavier/luxurious material for the back door. To further differentiate it from z10, it should pack a larger capacity battery.

Soooo, that is where some of the the surplus Z10 cct. Boards are going. Seems smart. Good margin too.

I would only buy it if I already had a Porsche.

BlackBerry needs to make a Dodge Caravan edition, to cater to the soccer mom's.

Porsche design? After watching the film I find the modest BlackBerry design og my Z10 much cooler and much more attractive!

I will repeat myself, but BlackBerry should partner with Vertu on the premium device. Tout security and you are golden, literally :-)

Posted via CB10

The back cover should have some kind of logo, be it a Porsche Design, BlackBerry, or both. To me it does not look upscale at all.
