We all know the media hasn't been portraying BlackBerry in the best light of late and sometimes you read articles where facts have clearly not been checked and that can be quite frustrating. To combat this, BlackBerry has launched the BlackBerry Fact Check Portal, a place for you to help BlackBerry clear up the glaring errors that tend to crop up within articles relating to BlackBerry.

Today we are launching the BlackBerry Fact Check Portal, a place for us to hold our competitors accountable for what they say, when what they say is wrong. We'll provide evidence that BlackBerry continues to be a leader in mobile, and we'll expose "smoke and mirrors" marketing tactics by competitors.

This Portal will be your one-stop reference for all things #BBFactCheck. We'll also bring you content that you can't find anywhere else and highlight the news, insights and stats that you can't miss. From mobility management to messaging, devices to security, we will make sure that you get the real story.

The BlackBerry Fact Check Portal is a two-way platform – so if you see a work of fiction from one of our competitors, we want to hear about it. Tell us about it here and make sure you frequent the Portal for the latest in our fight for the facts.

There is also hashtag that you can use to help bring light to posts haven't got their facts right - #BBFactCheck. What are your thoughts on this? BlackBerry is obviously wanting to stand their ground and fight back. Share your thoughts in the comments.

I've said this previously. Chen doesn't have to do these things, he chooses to and that's what makes a leader I can stand behind. He seems to be a little unconventional. He speaks the truth, and doesn't hold back his intentions. Basically here's my plan now deal with it. Not all CEO’S are this hands on and proactive. However this is what is needed if BlackBerry wants to get back to smartphone respectability. The phones are no longer the issue, but changing the perception of millions of people is the true test. John Chen, keep it going!

Via The BlackBerry Z10 Experience.

In theory yes, but cb doesn't always know the facts and bbry is now getting better at keeping some

Classifieds Canada and GeoYeo B4B Apps all the way!!!

100% agree on that.

This should have been done years ago to be honest!

I hope that this site has the best possible security in place.

Bird , your comments are fu*king annoying as well. Are you hired by BB competitors to spew garbage all over Crackberry?

ever heard of another phrase, "better late than never"?

of course, like everyone, i would have loved to see this during the launch of BB10, but it's good to see this now.. def a right step in correcting the negative perception out there, but this needs to be followed up quickly with some positive marketing as well to be most effective.

Yes Verizon customer service and sales people are a joke. All they do is try to stuff you into the latest samsung phone. They live in a cloud. I have argued with them on the phone about how wrong they are on almost everything.

If I didn't have grandfathered unlimited data I'd be gone.

Posted by Antoniius via my sexy Gold and White Q10.

It's not just Verizon sales people. I've had pretty lengthy conversations with T-Mobile people to educate them on BlackBerry facts. It's just a shame that they pushed BlackBerry to elect not to renew their sales contract & provide devices.

Posted with my T-Mobile USA  Q10 via CB10.

You know my story! We don't have it in stores but it doesn't stop people from asking me about my awesome Z30. I still try to push a ship to fulfillment order on a Q10 or Z10.

Yah it's not just verizon. Happens in canada too, recently I heard of 3 people going into bell and bell lied to them and said they didn't sell BlackBerry anymore (which they do)

Posted via CB10

Us cellular rep I talked to the other day didn't even know BlackBerry had a new Os. BlackBerry needs to reach out to us cellular again. They are a regional carrier but they are a pretty big one.

Posted via CB10

Totally agree with your statement about Verizon..i haven't been with them long, but when I went in the store to purchase my Q10, all I heard was stuff like, "are you crazy", "wouldn't you prefer a Samsung or Iphone" lol..but I do love their service..Oh Well!

Posted via CB10

Same experience at vzw went in upgrade time for a new z10 had to put up a fight to walk out with what I wanted.

Vtecberry Z10

Had to argue a bit with a Verizon rep. wearing a BlackBerry promotional shirt to get my bestest Q10...pushing mePhones to meet Apple quota I assume or get bonus.

Murray Squire Marr

Far too long BlackBerry has remained quiet while others stomped all over them, John Chen isn't having it lol

Chen is such a bad ass. He will easily make BlackBerry #1 again.

Posted by Antoniius via my sexy Gold and White Q10.

I'm not sure about easily... or even #1. #1 in the niche market perhaps. One can hope that BB can get on top again in the global market, but there's never a guarantee.

Birdman or should I call you EL Google. Do you even listen to the quarterly earning reports? Things are looking damn good to be profitable on schedule or even ahead of schedule.

Your part of the reason the blackberry fact check portal exists

Posted via CB10

He's obviously trolling negative for a reaction without adding anything meaningful to the debate. Think about it. ;)

Posted via CB10

Don't agree. He's more glass half empty than full, but he doesn't dismiss positives or logical points necessarily

There are definitely a few who like everything negative, cheer everything negative and find nothing good in anything BlackBerry does.

I don't classify Birdman as one of these

Posted via CB10

It's too early to declare the turnaround has been successful but at least the bloodshed has stopped. BlackBerry need four consecutive quarters of modest growth preferably with more people adopting BlackBerry 10 smartphones. The next six months are critical. A targeted marketing campaign for students heading to college and university is vital for a variety of reasons.

Posted via CB10 on BlackBerry Q5

A good start would be to make sure we keep existing customers...

I'd say that means blackberry needs some more input into things likebeta zone to let us know that certain things (that keep cropping up / bug introduced with 2.1) are being looked at, currently worked on, due to be worked, or fixed.

A small bit of acknowledgment for the (sensible) bz contributions goes a long way to making some of the life boat workers feel their efforts are not in vain!

Posted via CB10

This is a great idea and long overdue in my opinion. This BlackBerry bashing has gone on long enough. Time people got their facts straight #BBfactcheck

Sent from my Z10. Or was it my Q10? Either way, it was sent from an awesome phone.

I would totally buy a John Chen sticker pack just to pledge my support to BB. Maybe all 85M BBM users would, too, to show their support? That'd be a nice cash injection. I get the issue of a bunch of relatively poor people "helping" a corporation that has $3B in the bank, but I think it would be a pretty cool initiative and really send a positive "we believe" message to BB and a bit of an FU to all the nay-sayers. I'm in for $5. Seriously, what's $5? Let's see, $5 x 85,000,000 = almost half a billion dollars! I know, you'd get like 1% participation if you're really lucky and that would then probably send a negative message. I think too much. Just put the Chen sticker pack up, please.

The money is all coming back to you in value.

Imagine how many extra freebies and goodies they can add to our phones with even just a fraction of that money?

Yeah plus rumors and leaks by crackberry weren't helping much either.

...that should be a crackberry poll. would you buy shares in blackberry if you could? (Post your answers why in the comments)

Posted via CB10

Yes. Like in India there is a lot of bad publicity about price of Z3. And meanwhile no one has even figured out that dollar has jumped considerably and hence price had to increase.

Posted via CrackBerry App

Android makers have next to no development cost for the OS, a few modifications and theming, that's it.

BlackBerry are making their own OS, which is awesome and that cost needs to be factored in, too. OK, that might be hard to explain to the average guy on the street or even journalist.

Zzzzwiped from a Zedevice....

Yes. BB does make a very secure OS. What the needed was a good device with that OS. 9900 is still on of my favs. And classic will be my next phone. Unless they place it at insanely high price.

Posted via CrackBerry App

Finally BlackBerry is doing something for themselves rather than sitting there being bullied by the rest of the world.

Posted via CB10

Its about time. It just makes no sense what people are saying out there. Maybe this will help Or maybe it won't but its a step in the right direction

Posted via the Android CrackBerry App!

I think it's a great idea. Sometimes consumers are drawn to companies that "hold their ground", and stand up for themselves. No one likes a pushover. This idea will not only help fight incorrect "negative" publicity, but almost as importantly, it shows a confident ("don't mess with us") image that BlackBerry doesn't exhibit often enough.

Posted via CB10

I said this way back.....Heins expected us, the BlackBerry faithful to fight the media battles while he crumbled under the onslaught of false media. At the time I knew Heins turned out to be a spineless leader. John Chen is now doing what BlackBerry should have done long ago. This company is more than going to survive. It's going to flourish. Every company, government, school, country, household etc needs strong and rightful leadership. Else one is on a ship drifting aimlessly in the fog waiting for the inevitable!

Posted via CB10

I agree, Verizon is getting pretty bad about BlackBerry. When I traded up from my Z10 to my Z30, they were trying to get me to switch to an iPhone. I laughed at them and had to call Verizon to order my Z30. Of course, they didn't have any in stock.

Posted from my awesome Z30!

T-Mobile: Sends a flyer to offer an "upgrade" to an iPhone. People go nuts.
Verizon: Reps offer an "upgrade" to an iPhone. "Verizon is better than T-Mobile."

It's the same in my book.

It's exactly the same... problem is you need carriers to sell your product, and you can't bulky the best carrier in the country.

Now would be the time for special pricing for sprint / att and leave verizon and t-mobile out, until they improve their policies.

Posted via CB10

Unfortunately, that is just a link to the intro article. I had hoped for a dedicated portal starting with facts and fallacies, probably a good idea to start with Fallacy: BlackBerry is bankrupt, Fact: BlackBerry is working on a strategy moving forward.

Fair enough I guess. Let's at least give them a week or two though before pronouncing it a failure, no?

Posted via CB10

Exactly why such a web portal is required ^

Sent from my Z10. Or was it my Q10? Either way, it was sent from an awesome phone.

Best news ever (and long overdue). I like the new marketing guy already.

Z10 STL100-1, OS 10.2.1.3247

Exactly!!!!! How will the average person that is looking for a new phone know about this?????
This is misguided at best & cheered on by the BlackBerry faithful who already know BlackBerry.

Talk about targeting the wrong audience.......This is a COLOSSAL waste of time!!!

Posted via CB10

It's not. It's a place on the Web to address misconceptions about BlackBerry and it will cost next to nothing to implement. Peanuts.

Imagine a pro-BES IT head who needs to buttress his argument for staying with BlackBerry or switching from MobileIron or Good? This is a tried and true technique that has proven it's value in everything from products and services to politics.

It's not going to be the sole marketing initiative either. Just added to the arsenal.

Posted via CB10

Better late than never
In today's fast paced social media world, you have to stand up for yourself. It's not only about protecting IP through legal but protecting knowledge and ideas in the social world.
BlackBerry should be right on top of the Androidauto and Apples CarPlay news showing how QNX plays a role. Marketing QNX to the world while piggy-backing on top of Google/'Apples spotlights.
But BlackBerry competes with Google and Apple and thus leading to a possible conflict in strategy and effort.
This begs the question, should BlackBerry and QNX be two different companies?
I'd like your thoughts CrackBerry nation!

It's more for the fan base and enterprise IT who are pro already. BlackBerry does the leg work addressing common concerns of the average user. It's a fairly common marketing technique and it works well generally speaking. Clever, and inexpensive.

Posted via CB10

Does it matter?! As long as it is there. When you write an exam and the questions aren't in your area of concentration and you end up failing, you get blamed cos you're expected to read and know everything.

Posted via CB10

So let me understand.......this is directed mainly to BlackBerry users who for the most part know what is going on with BlackBerry as a company and details about the devices & features & updates.????
This does nothing to reach users on other platforms who BlackBerry needs to convert to BlackBerry!!!!!

Like you N.Americanos say "this is like preaching to the choir".

It is more than time the leaders of BlackBerry produce some aggressive cross media advertising that at minimum gives potential customers something to think about before they mindlessly shop for what they believe they need.

Until then this is another giant waste of time & effort!!

Posted via CB10

Good! It was about time this company grew some balls again and fought all the stupid, ignorant shit being spewed out there by so-called experts read pundits with a specific agenda...who get their marching orders from clearly vested interests, parasites who definitely stand to gain from deliberately spreading misinformation.

No one is suggesting to use such a tool as a self - congratulatory hub of arrogance and hubris.

But when false, non - corroborated mental farts are being distributed as factual truths by whoever...people and entities need to be called on their bullshit!

A suggestion. You might want to start with the "Lang and O'Leary Exchange" on the CBC. One of the hosts, Amanda Lang, gets a case of verbal diarrhoea each and every time BlackBerry comes up for discussion and each and every statement stinks of a unnerving type of smug, self entitled arrogance...

That'd be a good beginning!

Cartman says: Screw you guys I'm going home!

For years BBry has acted sooo "Canadian"...whimpy - appeasing with little to no cojones.

So refreshing to see this changing!
Git er done Mr Chen!

Via what's really, a BOLD X....on X.II.I

This is great only one problem. Nobody care enough about BlackBerry to check it. They'd rather bash BlackBerry "because" that's the cool thing to do.

BlackBerry might want to start with those so called ' representatives ' who keep saying " BlackBerry is going out of business ".

Mr Chen should get their names and addresses and their partners names and their addresses. ...LOL

Mr Chen has be like the mafia....

No one threatens the BlackBerry Family.

BlackBerry...Get it done!!!!

Now the portal needs a media handler that will go live to discuss every wronged news out there some media eye catcher like T-mob CEO

Posted from my flagship Z30 10.2.1.3175/3140

BlackBerry and Samsung and Apple CEOs need to stage a WWE-style smackdown with a sense of humour as they battle it out in the ring complete with KER-PLOW pop-ups as used in the original Batman television series.

Excellent Chen intervention! So this link is going into my Verizon phone signature. We can really spread the word & hold people accountable for failing to make fact-based statements. We can share with IT in our workplaces. The easiest target will be reporters, as they can be held to their ethical guidelines. This is not really targeting the average consumer.

Posted via CB from "Z" best

These are the type of people and comments that necessitate a web portal such as this.

Sent from my Z10. Or was it my Q10? Either way, it was sent from an awesome phone.

Yes. The portal will fix everything.
Yeah right. Sorry if I don't look at the world through your naive glasses. Why waste time on stupidities like that when they should be marketing the Passport, which looks like it could be a winner. But no, let's invent a portal so we can whine and complain how unfairly the naughty media is treating us. Yeah, that's a winner right there.

They will probably be able to dispel myths about he platform and the company, but it won't change the fact that their approach to mobile management is dated. BES is great to enforce strict IT policies for a user with ONE email account and if the company is a 100% into Microsoft software, which could be dangerous once Windows Mobile gains ground.

Just like in politics, if you don't answer the lies, the public assumes it's true! This is long overdue.

Posted via CB10

Fan Boys beware! Apple stealing OS features from BB10 will no longer be considered revolutionary and your attempts to void BlackBerry of its due accolades is over!

Posted via BlackBerry Z30

Comments like this also prove that this site is full of commenters guilty of spreading untrue emotionally based statements about the competition. I think a fact checker would work rather poorly, most of the stuff from a lot of people on here about BB10 is categorically untrue.

Blaize has luckily already stepped in when the CB FUD gets too out of hand.

I'm really happy to hear that BlackBerry is finally fighting back! This should help restore confidence in the great things BlackBerry has to offer!

Great move!

Posted using the best phone ever, the Z30!

So I guess the classic and passport and other devices in the works don't count? BlackBerry partnered with Foxconn, they never said anything about not making anymore hardware at all. It's a 5 year partnership, from the way things are looking I think in 5 years or even less BlackBerry won't need foxconn, or might just keep that partnership going to make the lower end devices.

More proof the web portal is badly needed. Ignorant people and comments like this.

Great idea. So many articles are incorrect and don't care. One mistake I see very often is that the Q10 is made of plastic.

Posted via CB10

The media doesn't care about the facts. If they've decided that they’re going to bash BlackBerry then they’ll stay the course regardless of what easy fact check site is put at their feet.

It reminds me of the media and politics: once they decide that they’re going to go in the tank for one side or the other it's a done deal: they'll make their own reality and too many people listening to their narrative are too uninformed to be able to sort the party line talking points from reality.

The media has already made up its mind that BlackBerry is finishing and only hard irrefutable sales numbers will change anything.

Posted via CB10

I love this idea. I'm pretty sure that the downfall of Blackberry has a lot more to do with bad propaganda and even lies in news and ads, as opposed to "lack of innovation" on the part of RIM.
You remember the news about 2 Blackberry workers getting drunk and causing a row on some airplanes? It was all over the news about 3 years ago. I wonder if EVER, any Samsung or Apple employee got drunk and causing a row somewhere or even getting arrested for it? Lets just make sure the whole world knows about the BB employees and don't ever worry about some Google, or Samsung or Apple employee. RIGHT...

"I'm pretty sure that the downfall of Blackberry has a lot more to do with bad propaganda and even lies in news and ads, as opposed to "lack of innovation" on the part of RIM."

LOL. Wow. I knew this site was wrought with blind fanboys, but this comment just might take the cake. Love coming back to CrackBerry every so often to see ridiculous crap like this.

Android and iOS like kicking the little guys when they're down, like WP and blackberry. It's just an attempt for balance. It may or may not work

Yeah I'm sure it is all because of the media and not at all the fault of BBRY.

It couldn't possibly be related to the FACTS that
BB10 devices have horrible battery life
BB10 devices have pretty much no native apps at all
BB10 devices have no companion devices
BB10 devices have just as many crashes as the competition
BB10 devices have to piggyback on Google, for a diminished Android experience

I could easily make the list a mile long and everything be factually correct but no, lets keep blaming the media, the Americans, the Europeans, the government, the carriers, retailers and on and on for the devices not selling.

Horrible battery life? Z10 admittedly not great, but Q10 and Z30 awesome. You need a #BBFactCheck

Zzzzwiped from a Zedevice....

For the naysayers, try this. Tap the screen, tap the share icon, choose any or all social media outlets, then share! It's not difficult and takes less time than reading the article or complaining about how much of a waste of time it is to have this available. It's called "word of mouth" advertising. So, stop whining and start rooting for BlackBerry, the most secure phone available.

Posted via my super duper ultra mega Z10 with death ray

WTF is with you BB fanboys and your "security"? I owned 2 BBs in my day and then converted (like any other sane person) over to Android about 4 years ago. Guess what? I had no security issues on EITHER PLATFORM.

1. Would you even recognize if you had a security issue?
2. Why are you still hanging out in a BlackBerry-focussed site after all these years as an Android fanboi?
3. Don't you have something more important to do?
4. Do you miss us? (it's okay to say yes)

Inquiring minds want to know.

I used to live on the 17th floor in a secure building, electronic passkey entry, foot patrolled security, deadbolt locks on my steel door.

I moved to a house with no fence, easy access ground floor windows, no deadbolt locks, wood door that isn't always locked. Oh, and a back door.

I've had no security issues at either place!

See how ridiculous that is? Just wait until someone starts trying to get in.

BlackBerry security doesn't seem like a big deal until it's needed.

And here we have another prime example of why the competition needs a fact check site more than BBRY.

The most secure phone available? I think you forgot the part where if not on BES it's no more safe than the competition. And also the fact that even if on BES, the phone calls can still be monitored with no problems at all.

BlackBerry should include the link in every newly sealed box and find a way to have a poster or a pamphlet in most major city stores.

Maybe even billboards. They need more visibility and the brand name in the minds of the people.

Posted via CB10

A place to hold their competitors accountable? Competitors? Don't they mean the 3 others that are mopping the floor with them?

LOL it was BGRs extraordinary sustained attack on Blackberry that let me to investigate BB10, to see what the fuss was about... now a happy Q10 owner.

Couple of suggestions:

Create an awards page. People like to read and hear about awards. It validates to them that the item they are thinking of buying is valued by others and the right choice. For instance there could be a blurb and link about the CES contest where the writers of some tech website (can't remember who) sent their reporters out with various phones and the Z30 won hands down.

Have a comparison page where isolated features between competing phones are examined. For instance. Compare the features of the Z30 Hub directly to the 5s and S5 equivalents. People love direct comparisons.

One more: An about page. Have a page explaining what BB does and examining where BB is heading. Keep it easily readable - use bullet points. People investing in a product want to know what a company is doing and where it is headed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Blackberry fan, but this reeks of desparation. I consider it lazy marketing. At this point, only competitive and desirable products will change the brand and the future of the company. No blogger or journalist will own up to inaccurate statements and iphone and android users just won't care. Lets focus the resources and effort on design and real marketing.

It's just gonna be one additional easy-to-use tool in the marketing arsenal for their sales people, and yeah, even for some of us "fanboys" to counter the BS...

A website / blog? Not very expensive...

Pasted via CB chen

I respectfully disagree. The hundred android and iOS blogs lie about each other all day long. Is either of them desperate? They lie about blackberry and windows phone as well.

You know something as simple as being able to use and view Emoji on our blackberrys could go a long way.. I'm always holding out for that in every is update but still get disappointed Everytime it's not being included.

If blackberry must copy anybody, it should be apple.. androids and Google are just copy cats and not real innovators ns

Posted via CB10

Yes excellent idea. Lots of crap out on android that is really gross. I try when I can. Especially when they don't mention when blackberry as a big reason for many of the tech advanced. How do you use the portal?

Way to go, I am sick of idiots at retail stores telling customers that BlackBerry is dead or that they aren't putting out any new phones.

Posted via CB10

Yeah, great stuff - being humble and let the facts speak for themselves might be a nice behaviour but it does not work for a company, especially if the typical users don't look a the product.

So spread the word!

Time to clear the air & sweep away the BS we've been contending with the past couple years.

Sent from my BlackBerry Z30

Now just incorporate that BlackBerry facts into an ad campaign in the US. And you will be on your way to growth cause the US consumers are being completely blinded by the competition as to the fate and facts of the brand.

Bout time, I'm tired of reading articles from tech pundits like cnet and techradar that do nothing but bash blackberry at every turn.

Triptastic!

I agree that the media has done a terrible job of portraying BlackBerry. Earlier this week I was watching a segment on Bloomberg and one of their regular reporters referred to the Z10 as 'the Z1... Z whatever'. It was his way of belittling BlackBerry but it just made him look silly or not very knowledgeable. Either way comments like this leave the general public with a negative perception of BlackBerry which is not deserved.

About F*****g time!

My employer's IT department still thinks we need BES to run bb10 BlackBerry devices on our corporate servers. (using Lotus Blotes (notes) web server. ). I have been using my Z10 for corporate email since I first got it in March of last year. Despite my write up of how to do this, they seem to be generally discouraging BlackBerry use after they drop BES in the fall of this year. Of course the majority of the employees with corporate email access via smartphone are using iPhone or Android. So I really can't blame them. I really wish BlackBerry move on th e multi platform BES a few years earlier. Don't we all.
