BlackBerry Internet Service 3.0 Details Leaked... Again
By
Bla1ze on 6 Feb 2010 01:58 am
Seems there is no shortage of BlackBerry Internet Service information these days. The BIS 3.0/3.1 documents contain a few long awaited changes. The folks over at
BBLeaks were once again tipped off to more BIS 3.0 information. After having looked at the files, some of what we had learned from the last leak was once again confirmed. Check out the run down.
- GMail - The enhanced plugin will get an update which allows for read/unread status of email.
- Open Office- Open Office documents will gain support for presentations, text, speadsheets.
- WMA Support - Long awaited handling of WM Audio will be supported now in attachments.
- Email Setup /Validation - An enhanced email set up application will be added. Increasing security for end user and methods of email validation/revalidation uponPIN changes.
- Carrier Enhancements - Error messages will now be more indicative of who they should be related to. ie: "If you are having a problem please contact <insert carrier>.
- Other -Carrier based tools such as BIS Admin which help with troubleshooting customers.
Nice updates most importantly out of all of it would be the GMail, Open Office and WMA support as I see it. The email validation and settings is something that some users will appreciate especially first time users, those familiar won't even likely notice until it comes time to change a device. Can't say I like having to wait for all these changes to happen but it's good to know they are coming. Now how about a new browser since I didn't really have an issue with the email before?

I hope VZW updates us! I love my Gmail.
vx1 Feb 6, 2010 at 8:38 am
I don't think this is a good idea, blackberry already had email there is no reason to support other email carriers. Gmail is crap anyways I have tried it on iphone 3GS, Web, and computer its crap.
and honestly BlackBerry has no need for it, I absolutely don't want it on my BlackBerry!
Griffspen Feb 6, 2010 at 8:45 am
The thing about Gmail is that it is only for the technologically savvy.
blacktoothberry Feb 6, 2010 at 9:11 am
What a dickhead comment . You don't know shit
syb0rg Feb 6, 2010 at 10:39 am
I like my gmail, but I hate Enhanced G-mail plug in. I delete it from every OS I install on my phone.
mikeatroundhere Feb 6, 2010 at 11:29 pm
Then don't use it you dumba$$.
What would all of the sudden be "on your device", Gmail?
Are you an idiot?
There aught to be some type of competency test before you post.

The download seems to be broken. Here's a mirror on RapidShare: http://is.gd/7O9YB

Gmail is garbage, and google is garbage too, not to mention acting in a non
competitive way towards competition. I am actually offended but having the
option of a google plug in for BlackBerry
And if that as not bad enough for BlackBerry to do this is a STEP BACKwards
they are shooting them selves in the foot. Their Core is Push Email why are you
supporting another monopoly.
swiedom Feb 6, 2010 at 9:30 am
No one is making you use it. Take it easy. And gmail owns all
mrspock2002 Feb 6, 2010 at 3:57 pm
I prefer Hotmail any time of the day.
Seabass88 Feb 6, 2010 at 9:48 am
Dare I say that you Sir 'vx1' are the Dumb one. Gmail flawlessly integrates into any mobile client I've tried which includes the iTouch, Nokia E71, Nokia N97, Blackberrys 8310, 8520, 8800, 8900, 9000 and 9700 so I don't know what you're talking about.
Ask anyone with half a clue and they'll agree with me. Gmail works well. Besides, I don't see you throwing your support behind any other mail client so really you're just complaining.
Lame!
jecrong Feb 6, 2010 at 9:54 am
i'm sorry guys, a newbie here, may i ask who makes the update for BIS, is it the carrier or we make the updates for our handhelds.
artie Feb 6, 2010 at 9:59 am
What benefit will we have if we don't use Gmail with BIS 3.0?
toxman Feb 6, 2010 at 12:32 pm

Thank you for the info.
xtremesniper Feb 6, 2010 at 11:50 am
Yahoo! Mail has an absolutely amazing integration with Blackberries. Why on earth is it so difficult to recreate that for Gmail with or without these silly plug-ins. I just want two-way instant sync. Is that so hard??
kentusmc#CB Feb 6, 2010 at 12:54 pm
Troubleshooting customers? They going to diagnose STDs or something?
Bla1ze Feb 6, 2010 at 1:41 pm
You'd be amazed at what customer care agents have to troubleshoot. They are like bartenders. And yes, troubleshoot CUSTOMERS cause 9/10 its user error anyways.
Like this little gem:
C: Hi, I cant seem to download the internet on my phone
CS: Well, are you able to open a webpage or access your browser?
C: I don't know what either of those are.
*face palm*

All I can say about it is the above... I have had an account since it started, so lots of contacts still hit me on it. Therefore, its nice to have it supported on bb. It's just more email to me. It would be nice to be able to pull up old mails, but I survive. Someday, I will get everyone to use my @bb account. Carry on.
I second being way more interested in seeing browser changes, soon please!
vx1 Feb 6, 2010 at 1:21 pm
there is nothing good about google and nothing useful, they were a university project run rabid. Not only that they are merged with the NSA government agency .. they are not helping the high tech community but hurting it and unlike microsoft they are are not attempting to help innovation in a direction that is not its own. I am not a microsoft fan but they do attempt to help others with out their own products. MS is a monopoly and truly evil like google they are not Creative or Artistic in any way .. there is not one once of internet 2 for the people coming out of Google or MS.
BB is a good platform that deserves to remain strong on its own
tturner23 Feb 6, 2010 at 1:49 pm
Its getting annoying.
mikeatroundhere Feb 6, 2010 at 11:33 pm
Agreed.
Jonneh Feb 7, 2010 at 5:38 pm
Yes, we understand you. Thanks for posting the third comment; we weren't exactly sure what you were trying to get at in the first & second comments. Now you are crystal clear. We get it. RIM and Blackberries are items of God, and any other company or product ever invented or that will be invented at any point in the future are just utter crap. Now we see the light. Thank you for showing us it! I'm going to go stare at my blackberry now and wait for the red light!
tturner23 Feb 6, 2010 at 1:46 pm
"GMail - The enhanced plugin will get an update which allows for read/unread status of email"
Is this two way sync?
bigpolla04 Feb 6, 2010 at 2:07 pm
I didnt buy the storm 2 for no reason ... there something big coming down the pipelines from RIM and I know it...hopefully sooner rather than later ..
I can feel it and I cant wait...hurry the xxxx up RIM( I will block it myself crackberry team, HE HE )
BBHN Feb 6, 2010 at 2:50 pm
When its finally release. Is it the carriers choice to update to 3.0? Or just automatic?
estarno Feb 6, 2010 at 3:27 pm
Screw the plug-in– why not fix push for gmail? Gmail is my main email account I use on my BB, but it sucks because it doesn't have the two-way sync that Yahoo does. It's really pathetic and annoying. Makes me go through hundreds of duplicate emails. Why no two-way sync?
SQ609 Feb 6, 2010 at 6:43 pm
WTF? Fu#$ the Gmail plugin crap! This does nothing for me. I don't use Gmail. How about an update or a new BlackBerry browser for a better internet experience already??? Get with the fu*$ing program Rim. Technology is leaving you guys behind in the dust. Stop moving at a snails pace already!
mikeatroundhere Feb 6, 2010 at 11:38 pm
Are you an idiot?
Who cares what anything does for you? RIM cares what the majority of their customers are asking for as they are the folks making them money. Not YOU.
And since when does a company stop having other teams develop and update services while a completely unrelated/different skilled team works on another project (ie: browser)?
Think before you post...
laollis Oct 16, 2010 at 12:05 pm
That's funny.
wpwoodjr Feb 6, 2010 at 11:48 pm
I'll be very disappointed if deletes and removing from inbox doesn't sync from gmail down to Blackberry. I hate having to see already deleted or filed email on the Blackberry inbox.
mikeatroundhere Feb 6, 2010 at 11:56 pm
Based on the read/unread status being updates I would anticipate that covers deletes as well... I really hope so too.
As a paying Google Apps user I keep seeing the value of my subscription rising every BIS release and this one thus far looks to be no exception!
Cadillac.Cowboy#CB Feb 7, 2010 at 2:02 am
'Bout time we got support for ODF (OpenDocument Format) support... I've had enough of this Microsoft Office rubbish.
Seeing as I've just switched all my domains to Google Apps, the two-way synchronization will be handy too...
firecracker869 Feb 7, 2010 at 10:45 am
and I was more interested in the WMA support. I have an 8900 and MMS a lot, but have issues sending pic and sound together and was wondering if anyone knew if this new support might resolve my issue.
I do use gmail as my primary email address, but have not gotten rid of my yahoo. I use gmail because it supports attachments on BB and yahoo didnt. And I do NOT want/need another email address.
bp22_ca Feb 7, 2010 at 6:12 pm
you want to sort to other folders from the BB.
I have to agree with every comment above about the plugin. I certainly hope read/unread status is done without the need for the plugin.
Yahoo and my ISP does it there is no reason gmail shouldn't. I currently have no use for the plugin as is. I would hate to have to install it to get what every other email service can do without one.
sdcablepro Feb 7, 2010 at 8:22 pm
Purchased a BB 9530 mint condition, paid to have it unlocked. Two days later it returned to the locked position. V-sims was removed and replaced w/Tm/sims. Curious as to where I went wrong? New kid on block just learning... I've got to do tons of reading. This is a gigantic up grade from my old faitful,I730...
abolds4397 Feb 8, 2010 at 10:03 am
I hope we can get this soon! I am anxious!!!
jeffawa Feb 8, 2010 at 5:12 pm
The article mentioned that BIS 3.0 would be rolled out last weekend in Asia. Any CB members on an Asian carrier that has implemented BIS 3.0 yet? I would like to hear your feedback on the gmail syncing.
larrymcj Feb 24, 2010 at 2:26 pm
As with everything Verizon rolls out..it's always last to reach their users (they're still the only carrier in the "world" who hasn't upgraded the Tour to OS 5.0).
Carriers are themselves responsible for upgrading their BIS to the new versions, so given RIM will roll this out in March I suspect before you close your swimming pools in the Fall you might have it on the Verizon BIS. What a shame :-(
stoneland May 3, 2010 at 11:20 am
AT&T will never get it, as usual......slow as f**k.
laollis Oct 16, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Megaload link doesn't work.
