All eyes in India may well be on today's BlackBerry Z10 launch which is taking place in just a few hours, but BlackBerry are also getting loved up about BBM. Over on their Facebook page, BlackBerry are offering the good people of India the chance to win dinner for two and in addition, the romantic liaison will be filmed and premiered exclusively on the Facebook page.

The contest will run until March 10th and the only really important rule is that in order to enter you must be 18 or over and reside in India.

So while you are waiting for BlackBerry 10 to hit why not share some of your BBM love stories? Keep it clean though!

Am I first :)
BBM is really popular there in India and it creates that social effect where one guy buys a BlackBerry and asks all of his circle to buy BlackBerry..

but one has to rethink to buy now at this launch price point Rs. 43,490. i am not getting why BB launched in INIA at high price. source: http://www.bbin.in/en/2013/02/25/blackberry-z10-launches-india/

The Z10 is just not going to take off in India. They have priced themselves out of the market. at 43,490 you are more expensive that what 60% of the population make in a year.
The people wh would have spent that much money will view the phone as a status symbol
Blackberry doesnt have the brandname to be a status symbol.
I never thought the z10 was going to be a hit in India. I am most disappointed that they arenot releasing a low end phone this year. That was going to be their big mistake.

Six devices are confirmed for this year. One of those has to in inline with the Curve range I would imagine.

It might be a curve, but if i recall right, the BB Europe head said in an interview that there will be no entry level devices.

India is an open market for handsets. We dont care about carriers and what the carriers are selling.
You buy a phone, slip in any carriers sim card, you walk away.
there are at least 15 manufacturers of smart phones in the market in India.
Blackberry, Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, Huwai, Micromax, Spice, Sony, Nokia, Acer, (and a few more that i am forgetting).

If i recall right, there are about 200 million phones sold in India every year. The smart phone market in that is about 40-50 million.
Of those 40-50 million smart phones, about 90% of them are below in the range below Rs. 15000..... that is 1/3rd the price of the z10.
the reason the 8520 is so popular in India, is that it is sold for about Rs. 8500.

The economics works like this for an average student.
You spend Rs. 8500 for a phone.
Every month you spend Rs. 150 (less than USD 3) and you get unlimited email and bbm and other social messaging (including facebook and twitter).
This is what makes Blackberry so popular in India.
no other reason.

That's perhaps what BB thinks as well I guess. Having dumped the lower versions of Gemini and Curves here, BBs did capture a huge market, but the market has moved on since then. Today one can buy a quad core, Android Jellybean powered 4.5+ inch LED display phone for as much as the price of the Curve! True story. And then we have WhatsApp and WeChat aggressively promoting themselves everywhere!!!

Psst: as a humble chap from a production house, might I add, the video absolutely sucked. Hows this for a little inspiration that with a little bit of thought, BB India can promote thier products in a much better manner!

iPhone-5 (16Gig) is selling at 45,500 in India and Z10 is priced at 43,490!

I think BB wants to price it close to iPhone-5 and make good margin on handset.
Compared to previous Z10 launches in Middle Eastern countries, I was expecting Z10 to cost us around 38K.

38K to 39K would have been a better price to compete with Samsung phones. Samsung Galaxy S-IV will be cheaper than Z10!!!!!

I"m buying Z10 anyway!!!!!!

Baaad move BB ! In the price for a Z10 people can buy 2 Samsung Grands and still have money left over. I am not saying that these 2 are comparable but the Samsung Grand specs are also very good and spending that much extra for the Z10 doesn't make any sense. Common sense did not prevail I am afraid...

The wealthy will go for the Z10, anyone who can't afford it will naturally be jealous. Just wait your turn, you will be able to get it soon. :)

I think a lot of people in India would play the 'Wait it Out' card. I second Rootbrian that the elite would lap onto it, However the major chunk of buyer's would enter at a point when the OS has matured and there's a range of options in the offering. There was a time when BB had achieved a cult status and owning one was the way to go. Now that has changed dramatically with Android and IPhone. Competitive pricing for the Z10 would have made an extremely compelling case though.

Time now to push the BB10 update for the Playbook to keep the world market interested.

Team Crackberry like you guys even I want BB10 to do great all over the world. India is a huge market and I feel BBs attitude towards it does not make sense.. Guys in place like India where z10 is launch I see not even a single newspaper ad or a TV ad. Sony Xperia has done and so has samsung and apple. Does BB think they can sell in India just like that. Also not sure why the MD Sunil Dutt resigned. Brand Blackberry is huge in India and many Indians atleast 1 million can buy a Z10 just like that even if its the most expensive phone out there. Please convey this to the CMO that till date not even a single ad has been seen in newspaper nor TV. How will Indians know its a WOW phone without any TV ads. Instead of wasting money on "Keep Moving" project please spend some wise marketing money for such things.
