BB web software download has this statement:

"If you did not purchase BlackBerry directly from Research In Motion (RIM), please contact your service provider to determine if this software has been authorized for use with your handheld."

Do you agree that we should wait for Verizon to release the updated DM4.5 rather than downloading it from BB?

as a Crackuser of CrackBerries it is in your duty to install the newest software available from RIM for your CrackBerry! You're carrier will ALWAYS be behind! And its not worth it being behind in this world!

I installed desktop manager 4.5 and synched up with my curve, man that thing was excruciatingly slow!!! Going back to desktop manager 4.3

Strange... I had absolutely no issues with my 8820. It was actually much faster than 4.3. What I did find painful was downloading 4.5 from the Blackberry site and then the install took forever. It actually hung up a couple of times during install, but then came around and it was fine. I have since checked all the functions and it works fine.

geez, I need to go back in and find out what the issue may be. The sync with my curve took forever, processing calender, phone entries and what not. I rebooted synced again and still took forever. I went ahead and reinstalled DM 4.3 and its working fine again. Not sure what the issue may be, Guess I need to snoop around the forums for similar issues.

I am on T-Mobile and 8820 with 4.2 and had no issues installing it. I downloaded a CD to see how Roxio works. I found that Roxio prompts you when you put a CD in. I don't remember it doing that before. The Roxio home page is also new. I am not sure about other functionality as I really didn't have a chance to look. The overall look of Desktop Manager is nicer and the UI is much better. These are not just cosmetic changes.. more radio buttons and just easier to navigate around.

I am sure OS 4.5 is just around the corner. They never would have released the new Desktop Manager unless OS 4.5 was right behind.

I asked T-Mobile if I should wait until they release OS 4.5 before I update and they said, "No, you can update the handheld from Blackberry and it will work just fine... just don't use any Beta versions!"

I dont get a desktop manager icon anymore. I find roxio a little hard. i guess its just me. I am going from a 4.2 to a 4.5, so it is a major difference for me.

I saw both versions of Desktop Mgr - w/ and w/o Roxio, but what is the Device Manager for?

Hey, I just downloaded the latest version of the desktop software (4.5) and discovered that it was in French. Has anyone else come across this? I'm not fluent in French, so I'm not installing it. Am happy with what I've got. Will keep my eyes open for updates to the desktop software though.

Ive tried many times to install but cant seem to get anything, no icon, not anywere in my files. I get an error saying I need to shut down my previous blackberry software but nothing was running.
Any advise? Going back to 4.2

one question, i have the new os 4.5 from vodafone but im with a different carrier and i deleted the vendor.xml file does it means that if i start using this new desktop manager 4.5 it will automatically update my vendor file(as it says in the new features) and screw my phone?

I thought OS 4.5 was to include HTML E-mail, and document reader? what a disappointment. I coulnt get 4.5 to DL, so re-installed 4.3, and was gonna try 4.5 again, but not if the improved e-mail/doc reader is not there.

look i downloaded the os 4.5 and i have documents reader the thing is that when u r installing it a list of old applications and new applications will appear like when u manage ur aplications through app loader in desktop manager well after that appears u have to check the documents to go so it will install it on ur blackberry
i did it cuz i took a look at the applications that came with this new version about html email i cant help u

Like stated before the BB Desktop Manager 4.5 is different than BB OS 4.5. Also, if you check out www.boygeniusreport.com, there is word of a BB BIS upgrade to v2.5. This may supply support for HTML mail. stay tuned...the BB OS 4.5 upgrade is coming real soon.

there are TWO pieces of software. The phone OS, and the desktop software. They are independent of eachother. Desktop manager 4.5 is only for your desktop. It does not effect your Blackberry

This isnt the 4.5 OS, its just the desktop software. The actually Blackberry OS 4.5 update will (supposedly) include the HTML email and doc reader.

I noticed the disclaimer at the top about checking your service provider to see if it has been authorized for my phone. How much should I worry about this? I didn't find it available when I went through what DM is available for Sprint. Should I wait till it appears on that page, or go ahead and download it now?

I went to the sprint store because i had GPS issues... and they updated my Sprint Pearl 8130 to the new 4.5 OS.. so far so good... now my question is which version of the desktop software am i suppose to use now? I had version 4.3 but that thing totally freezes up in Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit. I'm trying to install version 4.5 but the download from blackberry's site is excruciatingly slow... i'm excited to see how the media sync works with itunes... cuz i was tired of having to pay sprint and itunes for music i wanted to listen to that i already had.

Why do I have to list a company and job title to download this Desktop Manager? This can be confusing to a novice. The top download is French (FRA), the second one is Spanish (ESP)and the English version is denoted by (ENG) You don't need the bundled version unless you want all the languages. This is JUST the Desktop Manager not the O/S for the phone. The updated O/S can't be far behind though.

Just installed DTM 4.5...but where did my desktop launcher icon go? How can I launch DTM now?

I downloaded and installed DM 4.5 2x. Both times left me with no desktop icon (even though I checked the setting for an icon on my desktop). I could not find any way to launch the DM whether or not my BB was connected, What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

you d-loaded the device manager not the desktop software.

Scroll down the page, you will find the desktop software with media manager.

Blah, give us Blackberry Unite and many would cheer. "The coutry your ip orginates from does not allow downloading of this software" so gay. Bans on blackberry Unite? wtf

I was using DM 4.2 with my 8820 (UK Orange service provider) but I am now installing the DM 4.5 (thanks for the tip and link), ready to use my new 8120 next week. Gary

I downloaded and got lost with the media manager, it was too fricking slow and a bit confusing for me, so I'm sticking with the 4.3 DM as it works fine for me and easier for me to navigate.

Looking forward to the OS 4.5 as it shouldn't be far behind like most of you say. Whooo!

I'm using it now. So far, no issues. I like the feel of it. Nothing specific, but we'll see as more people use it.

I also downloaded just the device manager thinking i had desktop manager...thanks so much for posting what to do. this is all Greek to me and i admire your knowledge and helping hands. i have the right one now! IMO this is more than just a phone--it's a way of life, people helping people, and so much more. TG I bought a BB and TG I found Crackberry...you're great!!!!!

Iam glade to see RIM bring out their new Desktop OS for Windows(have to use my wifes PC)but wheres the Desktop for Mac?I know that there alot of Mac useres out there that bought an iPhone for just that reason. If RIM would bring out a desktop for Mac you would see alot of iPhones hitting ebay!So come on RIM!!

RIM needs to make a mac version for sure, but I would never move to an iPhone just for syncing. I use Missing Sync for business on my Macbook Pro and it works fine. Better than booting into Windows to use this software form RIM or using PocketMac.

Finally saw the error of my ways...and, after uninstalling the Device Manager, I loaded the DTM English bundle w/Roxio media manager. Got my desktop shortcut back, and all is good with the world.

No huge changes, at least that I can see...but everything is just more user-friendly in the layout and font type. Good stuff!!

DO NOT D/L DM 4.5 until the correct version 4.5 hits VZW's site.......

Consider yourselves warned if you choose to disregard.

Whats up? I havent done it yet but thats a seroiusly cryptic message. Hmmm...kindof a 'big brothery' theme to it actually.

I'm on ATT using BES:
- So is Desktop Manager 4.5 OK to download & use now ?
- also I saw Device Mgr 4.5 listed .... !!!

Other than waiting for the download from the Blackberry site to go through, not a problem so far with Manager 4.5 Looks nice.

this sucks!!! cannot access media manager. uninstalled the program from my computer but it wont go away! cannot access the old 4.2 version now. how can you say this is good.

I have never seen so many folks who have Blackberries who are illiteral. If you cannot figure out how to install this software, then you better wait till your phone company (AT&T, T-Mo, Verizon, etc.) comes out with it. It probably won't do you any good with it anyway.

Make sure you are downloading what you need for your desktop. If you are not sure download it in multilanguage. Then decide do you want media manager or not. That seems to be all the decision you have to make.

Good luck!!

Anyone have another link? I've tried downloading three times, and it always errors out at some point through the download.

1. Un-install your old software first. This will save you some headaches with the Roxio part of the install.
2. The file for English with the desktop manager is 192mg in size
3. The RIM server is slow. It will come down slow.
4. Will that person that said not to use this with Verizon please explain why???? I downloaded it and it works wonderfully with my VZW BB. No problems including the snyc.

Handheld= 8300 Curve with OS 4.5.0.37
Desktop PC= XP Pro, SP3 and the new Desktop Manager 4.5.0.15

No problems, Synch speed actually seemed faster to me. I like the new interface and the updated conflit resolution option screens on synch.

I like the new "Update Applications" option on the Application Loader.

You didn't get it all. It is a self extracting zip file and if it didn't download properly, then that is the error you will get.

ok, where am I going wrong?? (I'm a newbie with BB & related software) I've just downloaded the new version of desktop manager as instructed so I can configure tethered modem access on a laptop. I installed the 4.2 version I got on CD with the BB but was recommended to update to latest version, since updating the only thing in the Blackberry program group is a readme file and that doesn't help much! The icons for the desktop manager have gone AWOL and nothing happens when I plug in my BB. I've even tried the 'repair' option on the windows installer to no avail... I guess I'm missing something fairly obvious... help, anyone?

how come no where else hosts Desktop Managers? RIM server is do damn slow!!! i should be able to download it from somewhere else!!

A typical week of upgrade idiocy over here: I got a notice for Service Pack 3 of Windows XP on my old notebook, which of course failed to load properly for obvious reasons (Microsoft Windows Updates are created by dingbats and run on a shit operating system) and now the Blackberry Desktop 4.5 on my Vista Machine, which now fails to recognize my 8130. This amounts to abuse when you consider how much of a time suck it becomes. And naturally support is only mythological. I am disgusted. I have no respect for either of these big firms. Maybe the economic downturn will take them where they belong: into the history books.

Just gotta new laptop and my original cd doing nowt, so thanx for the route to download the v. I needed.

just that we all know a little appreciation goes a long way
