Since AT&T has the 8900 and the Bold both priced at $199 why would you buy the non 3g 8900?

So you don't have to buy a backpack for the Bold.

or be subject to a call failed screen millions of times with subsequent loud beeps that remind you each beep how terrible atts 3g network is. Plus the bold is still 299 for a new one after rebate, refurb is 199

well they got it,but 299.00 for a upgrade.....that I'm well over being available for................must be nice to be with verizon, with BOGO deal.

Posted by xxxxpradaxxxx Thursday, May 21, 2009 995 days ago

Thats because 98% of VERIZONS BlackBerry's are from the Stone Age.

And the only one that isn't [from the stone age] doesn't even work properly.

So that's the only reason VERIZON can do the whole BOGO deal.

All i hear from AT&T customers, is Drop Calls, Drop Calls. I have not dropped a call in years. My old STONE AGE 8330 (Verizon Curve..........for the newbes!), is still the best BB on the market!!! Nice try LULZ. Stay we the company "With The Most Bars" (Oh, that was too funny, I could not pass that up). "Q"

8900 is $249 before MIR on my premier site and $149 after. Currently it is listed as out of stock though.

$249 for me also on premier.

The at&t buttons are ugly compared to the TMo 8900. Plus TMo has it for new and upgrades ar $150 after $100 MIR

Posted by Queen4111 Thursday, May 21, 2009 995 days ago

I bet they did that to distinguish between TMO and ATT.
IMO, I like my number buttons highlighted like ATT's.
At least the Alt and Speaker key stand out.

I bet anything the 8900 does better on calls then the Bold. AT&T's 3G service has gone down the gutter... Sucks so bad. Im tired of the dropped calls.

I work for AT&T Laptop telephone support, and own a RIM BOLD. I get tons of dropped calls here in Evansville, but my HTC Tilt is right next to me and it doesn't drop calls. I could call at the same time and while my Bold call fails the Tilt is still talking. I think it more of combination of BOLD and the 3G network. So you can't lay blame on one over the other, IMO.

I'm in the UK and errmm, we don't pay for our handsets here. mine came free on a 2yr contract including 600 cell mins, free landline calls, free blackberry internet, free unlimited net browsing and unlimited texts. cost approx $ 45 per month. How does that compere with the US ??

Many others have already stated that the phone is priced more in line on Premier Sites (mine shows $249 less $100 MIR). I can get the phone for $150 instantly from TMobile instor or online. I bet I could find it at a dealer for less out the door as well.

Choices: Bold Refurb Free, Bold new $299 AFTER rebate on some sites and $199 after rebate on my Premier Page. This leaves me with the choice of the Bold for a net $50 more.

If 3G weren't a necessity, wisdom tells me to save the $50 and get the Curve 8900. Also, the TMobile has ATT beat with UMA and wi-fi calling that can reduce your bill. Since the spouse wants a BB and is often at or near a Starbucks, I am leaning towards a 8900 with TMobile.

Update 5/22/09
Premier site now shows $299 before MIR and Bold at $299, but refurbs are free $199-199 instant off).

I miss the days of instant rebates with ATT Premier (Blue).

Anyone talk their Premier rep into a 1 year contract for this yet? If so, what price?

So, I actually work for nTelos, but I am an Addict like the rest of you, and I had to check out an 8900 for myself. So I walked across the hall to the competition and had an AT&T rep. grab a shiny new 8900 for me to play with. For the 1 to 2 minutes I had to spare from work, this phone is glorious. I am an 8330 owner and if I were on a GSM carrier I would have an 8900 TODAY. Yes, today, as I have seen many other AT&T stores will not have their stock of 8900's in for a while, I thought people would just "love" to know that the tiny little podunk town of Beckley, WV has them in stock today...

It is certainly a nice phone, however internet is very vital to me and my job so Bold was a no brainer. They had both at the AT&T store in my mall and honestly they look the same sitting next to each other (except size). Good deal though if you don't need 3G. Oh and to the haters, I have never had a dropped call and I was with AT&T for a year and a half before I decided to give VZW a whirl for the Storm...that didn't work out so now I am back with AT&T with the Bold and I am loving it. I really think it depends where you live, but my coverage is perfect all the time.

I bought a Bold back in Feb but now I want to buy the curve and they want me to pay full price!!! Is there any way to avoid that??? any tricks or something???

I was going to upgrade with Tmobile (I currently am end of contract with a TMO Pearl 8100), but it would have cost me $149 and they have no coverage in Yosemite or other out of the way places I like to travel. So, I reluctantly went to AT&T for my 8900 due to their better coverage. To think before yesterday I didn't know I had a choice! Anyway, I got my 8900 for free online with a 2 year AT&T contract... obviously not direct from AT&T. Not sure what the terms of service is here regarding that or I'd post the link.
