So looks like quite a few people owe Matt_25 an apology :)

Matts Pictures were regarding the Essex and not this 8530?

Posted by cboekhoven Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

If I remember right, an i do, i posted a thread about the release date a couple weeks ago stating Dec. 18th and mankows5 can attest to it because he saw it and continued the thread. As soon as i did this people tried to claim I was wrong and that the real date would be Jan. 10th. maybe im owed the apology for people saying im wrong? either way thanks to mankows5 for bumping the thread for me and im just Happpy that Sprint has this thing out no matter how far behind Verizon it was. im running out to get it in a couple hours.

I sent the release of the 8530 to crackberry for US Cellular at the beginning of the week, still no mention. Just the way things go, especially if its for a big carrier.

And IM glad he was. I did get a little nervous yesterday afternoon when I hadnt heard anything on it yet. But then someone posted at like 11:14 it was coming out and by 12:05 I had it ordered. (not that im addicted to these things or anything) I just hope mine gets here soon.

And hopefully they have a few more kinks worked out than the verizon one. When I got my 8330 I have never really had any problems with it. So sometimes its worth the wait for it to come out a little later and a little better.
hopefully however cboekhoven gets his info he keeps us informed for future releases...

I ordered mine yesterday and am waiting to get my hands on it. I will try to post some info when i have it. i feel like a 3 year old waiting for christmas to come while i stare out my window for the delivery guy.

i convinced my brother to get a blackberry yesterday, luckily he didn't have time to do it yet, now he can get an 8530 for the same price as and 8330

So as a Sprint customer the 2 best devices currently are this and the Toure? I have a 8330 and have been waiting to upgrade but wasn't just going to jump at every new phone released. Suggestions on which to get?

Posted by Nwordplzplz Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

I would wait for the Tour 2. It's going to have an optical trackpad among other features. We just don't know when it's coming out.

Posted by FoxxyNiki Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

I think that's very good advice. I went from a BB to a Pre, and I HATE the Pre and desperately miss my old BB, but I think you're right and it makes sense to wait for the Tour 2. I know you said that you have no clue when it's coming out, but is it definitely being released to Sprint?

What makes the Tour better than the Curve 8530? I know the perks of the Curve are the 5.0 OS, trackpad, and Wi-Fi, but what makes the Tour better (it costs $100 more). Flash and screensize, but what else?

Posted by FoxxyNiki Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

I believe the camera is better as well. I think the Curve only has a 2.0 or 2.5mp camera.

Posted by kiloechonovember Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

The Tour is not better than the 8530 except perhaps its camera.

The Tour 2 on the other hand will have OS 5.0, trackpad, wifi and a better camera.

Posted by chrishighberg Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

Tour 2 is an International Phone and the Curve 2 is not...

It also has a 3.2 mega pixel camera with flash where the Curve 2 has a 2.0 mega pixel without flash.

I beleive the build quality will be much better too...

Posted by Spork1673 Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

this would be a downgrade from a tour yes ?

Posted by chrishighberg Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

Once the Tour 2 comes out the Curve 2 would be a step down. The Curve line is considered an entry level device (but a rocking one) accourding to Crackberry Kevin. See below...

"A New "Low End" BlackBerry That Rocks?!

Rumors of a new BlackBerry with the codename "Gemini" have been running around the interwebs since early 2009, evolving slightly with every new blog post made about it. After some back and forth on device model number (previously labeled as the 8325 after some initial confusion), the prevailing thought on what has been now named the BlackBerry 8520 is that would it would be a new "low end" EDGE-only addition to the popular Curve line. In other words, the Curve 8520 was not something to get too excited about."

I currently have and 8330 and love it...I'm either gonna wait for the Tour 2 to come out or "Jump Ship" for AT&T to get a "Bold 2". The only downer is I've got a super rate with Sprint - 1500 Shared minutes for 3 Blackberrys and 1 non Blackberry all for $160 a month. If I were to switch to AT&T for the same plan I'll be at $210 for the same plan.

Posted by jamun62 Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

Ah..So happy to have left Sprint for AT&T after they refused to take my old Tour due to reoccurring trackball issues... Do yourselves a favor and switch to a better provider who releases better handsets.

Posted by Spork1673 Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

yes sprint can be a PITA but i can't jump ship i have WAY To a deal with sprint 3 smartphones unlimited EVERYTHING ... 140 a month

Posted by Guy from SU Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

I have both Sprint and ATT and prefer Sprint call quality over ATT any day.

Posted by bryancadc05 Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

so basically you are commenting on a sprint news to tell everyone to jump ship to AT&T?

I hope to see you smiling when AT&T will tell you: Bend over Boy!

Posted by DC2GSR Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

not Sprints fault the trackball was bad, Verizon Tours had the same issue, also if you had gone to a repair center they should have ordered you a replacement next day, like i would have done.

This is funny how sprint (my carrier)still selling the 8330 for 49.99 With two year contract and $549.00 with out
wile this new model is just $349.99 without contract

MMMM... why would that be

The price difference is cos the 8330 is by far one of the best phone out there
and is going to stay around for a wile
I just got a 8330 last week when i could get a newer BB model
but none of them convince me of being a better phone
in my opinion (Aside from the BB Tour) RIM is going ship really ship in the way they’re making this new models phones
no doubt they look nice ,but again this is my opinion, i think the BB TOUR will be the last phone that when you have it in your hand you know you have a blackberry

(Blackberry user since the 75xx series)

Posted by jamun62 Friday, Dec 18, 2009 886 days ago

Not telling anyone to jump ship but just saying Sprint as a carrier sucks and their customer service is horrid. So, that combined with their late release of anything good should be enough for anyone to switch...

Posted by nep1030 Friday, Dec 18, 2009 885 days ago

with all due respect
you are wrong
costumer service is very good
I'm exigent with my services and they always treat me like i deserve .. like a valuable customer that speaks for itself

Wasn't there a pink/purple one floating around for Sprint? I was waiting on this to upgrade my wife's 8330, but she won't settle for black.

Posted by jamun62 Friday, Dec 18, 2009 885 days ago

Okay! You're probably a Sprint Employee. And if not, best of luck to you then with them as a carrier..However,if they're so great, then explain this if you don't mind :)

I bought my mother a Blackberry Tour about a week ago for 99.99 on sale. Should I return it and get the new Curve 8530 ? Online I know I'd be able to get it for free. Just looking for opinions I know the pros and cons.

The USCC version has been out for over a week and yet no love from CrackBerry or anyone else for that matter despite tips from numerous users.

I know USCC isn't one of the big four but when everyone complains about high prices and not enough competition maybe it's due in part to fact that when they do good things like release a major BlackBerry before Sprint and only shortly after Verizon no one notices.

curve2 has 256 memory curve 1 has 96
curve2 has autofocus camera. notta on curve1
curve2 has software 5.0. curve1 has to be loaded and not much room for memory left over.
curve2 has touchpad and will last. curve1 with trackball won't last.

curve 1 was dead the minute 5.0 leaked out. it won't run some of the updated apps. and some apps it won't run PERIOD.

buy a curve 1 RIGHT NOW. and be committed to 2 years. NO THANK YOU. i like to keep up with the latest software and technology. if you manage to survive that 2 year contract while everyone else is leaving you in the dust. your phone model will be 4 years old. and if you install 5.0 on your phone. you'll be stuck with little memory for anything else. FOR 2 YEARS.

international phone!!!! i don't travel so no big deal to me. i certainly won't miss this 10k phone bills everyone else seems to be getting.

and it feels like a toy. positives, 5.0 and wi-fi, negatives, keys to close together, menu and trackpad buttons take force to select, and it is so light and plasticy (is that even a word :) that it feels like a mock up...oh, and the back is loose already from two battery pulls. The 8330 felt sturdy, my Storm 2 awesome, the 8530 provides a basic, and I mean basic, smartphone, but at least it runs 5.0, oh and no flash for the camera...

I dont know if this is true for everybody but I just got off of the phone with my local Sprint store, and this is an actual corporate owned sprint store and not a local licensed store. They told me that they do not have the phone in store and that as of right now it is to be ordered only. So maybe the Jan 10. date is for the in store release??? Either way I dont care cuz i just ordered mine online but is anybody else experiencing this?

Posted by ItsMe6 Tuesday, Dec 22, 2009 881 days ago

No they're not available in any stores until January, they have them in stock but can't sell them. i got mine this morning :D from one of my jobs clients. aside from the BB outage right now, i like the phone its light, small wi-fi is good too. i liked the tour but the f**kin ball, o well im using it on AT&T now for work

the latest rumors at SprintUsers show that this is the first blackerry from Sprint that will REQUIRE an EVERYTHING plan....

BOOO!!!

Posted by Nightfall Saturday, Dec 19, 2009 885 days ago

So in the end I'll wait for the new yr to see if more concrete info drops on a Toure 2 release. My 8330 is doing exactly what I need it to right now so it's not life changing that I update. Especially with how slow Sprint is to drop new devices. Their customer service over the yrs has never been an issue, unlimited plan and call quality is fine too.

Posted by crackavelli Sunday, Dec 20, 2009 884 days ago

Why is The Everything Data so bad? The lowest price is the $70 plan. For that you get unlimited calls to any mobile and qualify to be a Premier Customer (upgrade every 12 mos) that's the best.

Hands down, the Tour over the Curve even with the trackball.
I wish people would stop bashing the Tour. I know it had issues but they have been resolved. I know it doesn't have the 5.0 OS oh heaven forbid on that, shame on RIM GIVE ME A BREAK. Mine runs just fine on the 4.7 and when the 5.0 is available am sure it will be just fine then as well. It doesn't have wifi, but I have no issues with the browser at all. It is getting to be very annoying about the whining about what this device has and what it lacks.

And there are people who have the Storm2 who still are complaining as well.

It is a worldwide phone. It has a 3.2 camera and takes awesome photos. it comes with a 2gig micro SD, also a case and all the international plugs if you travel abroad.
IT WORKS I LOVE IT

Decide for yourself. I am VERY PLEASED with the Tour and I know others who have it and love it as well.

Get what makes you happy and just be content. There is so much going on in the world today and all you can do is whine about your blackberry. OH MY silly isn't it?
