Cricket has for a while now, been known as being a low cost carrier which serves approximately 4.6 million customers throughout the US. Coupled with their roaming agreements with other carriers, a lot of customers looking for a cheaper alternative have jumped ship from the big boys to take Cricket up on their offerings.
Looking at the recently leaked 2010 device line up BGR posted, Cricket is looking to take on a bigger market share by offering up BlackBerry services now. First device on their list? The low cost BlackBerry Curve 8530 of course. As the slides indicate, the BlackBerry Curve 8530 will be available from Cricket sometime around August. Could be quite a deal if Cricket has good coverage in your area.

Man! Look at that hefty pricetag(s)!!
For a hundred dollars more you can get a Bold 9700 from T-Mobile, and it's WORLDS more phone/power.
Cricket offering the lowest end BlackBerry, and charging that much?!
Their service for me better be 20 bucks a month then!

At a retailers point of view you have to make some extra cash somehow, lowering costs of service will get you a lot of customers, but prices of phones skyrocket due to one of two things, the price they pay for the device and the price they can get people to pay, I garuntee you if no one wants to buy the curve at that price it'll drop like a rock. Not to mention companies always charge a lot for the new stuff they get.

Good thing is cricket doesn’t require a big deposit. You know some peps get screwed over in life and have bad credit or no credit at all. And some just muff up their credit themselves. It might not be the best 3G service out there but its nice that that the lower middle class can get a smart phone if they want. Curve for VZW is a good phone despite all the complaints. Im sure it will sell just fine for cricket.

$349.99 is a hefty price for Cricket phone. I used to have Cricket and their service sucks. After dealing with their phones for a year or so I decided to get a Sprint phone. This will be the new medium for Cricket customers. Everyone on the bus will have this phone, hands down.

How contracts don't look so bad when you see the un-subsidized price of devices, lol.

Buy a used Blackberry on CL, flash it to Cricket. The $200 price you pay through other carriers is the subsidized cost of having you locked into a 2 year contract. Cricket doesn't have contracts, so its the same as Verizon's month to month, which is $359 for the Curve 8530.
You get a lot with Cricket. Tradeoff is, their coverage is spotty. If you never leave town, this is a bargain. I'm on the move, so Verizon works best for me.

I've got a buddy who works for Cricket and he told me this a while ago (probably about two months ago) that Cricket was getting a BlackBerry. He's been envious for a while since MetroPCS has a BlackBerry but Cricket didn't.

Prices listed on the leak is the MSRP not necessarily the cricket price. Based on how Cricket traditionally prices their devices, you can expect it to be 50-100 dollars less when it actually hits (249-299) and drop to (150-199) 6 months to a year later.
Depending on your market cricket service can be quite competitive. They offer nationwide service (free roam on sprint) for around 40-50 a month.
Unlimited talk text and data on vzw with 8530 is 120 a month
Phone cost 30
2yr plan cost 2880
total 2910
Cricket - 40 a month unlimited talk text data
Phone cost 300
2yr plan cost 960
2yr plan cost including vzw roaming 1080
total 1260 (1380)
Cricket saves you ~1500 in that scenario and still saves ~900 if you chose the cheapest talk/text/data plan from vzw (450 min)

I just left cricket in Feb for my BB on Sprint. It wasn't service it was the phones. All of them were crap.
Yes the draw back is that Cricket isn't everywhere and when I would go up towards Lima, I would lose service.
They always have their phones on sell. Sometimes 50% or more off. Expect it to have a special intro price for a while.
This could be huge for Cricket, but only if the expand their coverage.
No I will not be going back to cricket. I love having service every where I go.

Cricket now roams free on sprint nationwide (as of last week) so lima is covered, as is most of Ohio and the surrounding states :-)

Yeah Lilin28....
I lived in Sidney for a long time (now live in Illinois), and right about Anna/Botkins... services goes away.
However, if this deal sticks.... I will use my brothers address in Piqua and activate Cricket service and risk getting cut off for roaming! :)

Well, both my wife and I each have an 8330 flashed to Cricket. We also have a wireless internet card. Our monthly bill for unlimited everything, on Cricket, for all of our devices is around 130 a month. The speed is not great but hey, you have to weigh out the sides-price and speed. I am back in school for computer networking and until I am done, this works.
And yes, I had Verizon previously and can't wait to go back but for now it's not all that bad. Hail WIFI!!!

FOR YOU CRICKET HATERS: I bought the blackberry its not 350 its 300 minus 50 mail-in- rebate with other carriers like ive had before you pay for all the services cricket has about 80-90 a month with Cricket its 60 and thats it... Its a very cool phone... you're right not the best blackberry but certainly will do as the second
