BlackBerry Curve 3G available from T-Mobile September 8th for $79.99
Today via their Facebook page, T-Mobile announced that the BlackBerry Curve 3G will be available starting September 8th. The latest entry level device will carry a great price tag of just $79.99 with a two-year contract. The Curve 3G will ship with OS 5.0 installed but is said to be BlackBerry 6 ready so we'll see what happens down the road. In true T-Mobile fashion the device will most likely be available in multiple colors at some point as well.

To keep selling the exact same BB to customers every 1-2 years....

the rumored released of the T-Mobile G2, with faster than 4G speeds! Seriously, it's a sad state of affairs for us RIM fans on T-Mobile nowadays. If I don't hear rumors of the Torch on T-Mobile soon, I just may jump ship to Android soon too.

You can just get an unlocked Torch or unlock it yourself. It will work for T-Mobile.
R-Rizzo Aug 30, 2010 at 5:06 pm
While that technically may be true. You won't have 3G. This may or may not be a deal breaker for some. But I don't really wanna pay retail for something just to not be able to use it to its full potential.
CMEC Aug 30, 2010 at 10:02 am
Wow RIM, come out with the same phone but add 3g a year later lol. I wonder when Rim is going to come out with a BB that has an HDMI output. Maybe in 2015!!
Mvor7 Aug 30, 2010 at 10:21 am
OBVIOUSLY it's not meant to compete with the G2 or any other high end device.... It's a BUDGET phone, one you can get for free at walmart and lets Tmobile still charge you 30 bucks a month in Data.

Anything from T-Mobile is worthless, Stuck with this crappy Blackberry 8520 till next Septmember, I cry to wish my contract was up with these idiots. T-Mobile doesn't even understand the meaning of UPGRADE and UPDATE. There OS is still stuck on 4.6 for the Blackberry Curve 8520 for over a year and half now, and now they wanna come out with a Curve 3G, Idiot Morons, Try updating older phones before making newer worthless phones.

With other carrier's and leaked OS's. Tmo never released 5.0 for my 8900 but I've had it for a year and a half.
big_time2 Aug 30, 2010 at 12:35 pm
Year and a half? Curve 8900 has only been out for a year and a half. It was released in February 2009. When did we see the first leaks of 5.0?
cl8baller Aug 30, 2010 at 12:24 pm
Well AT&T and several other service providers arent much better, took them a while to give an official OS5 release for several devices.
Besides its NOT TMobile producing the phones, like most carriers they are just more interested in contracting devices with other companies and pumping them out versus software updates. Youre on your own on that one
K Bear Aug 30, 2010 at 1:36 pm
Maybe you should read the forums more often. The 8520 will be getting OS5 shortly. It was never designed for OS6.

T-mobile can keep it. I don't want this....I want a torch!
nyc_rock Aug 30, 2010 at 10:50 am
80 bucks should be the new standard price point for blackberry's with these specs.
HTC_Droid_EvO Aug 30, 2010 at 11:14 am
Why should phones like this be 199 ...Walmart and other sites that offer the for free with new users are the best option
Jaredius Aug 30, 2010 at 11:31 am
They put wireless N capability in this phone, the same processor and memory as the 9700, dumbed down the screen res from it's predecessor, made it 3G, and left a wack a$$ 1.9MP camera on it.
Good job.
Pumathecat Aug 30, 2010 at 11:43 am
Too funny. Sounds like a mix and match!
Harry_Yambag Aug 30, 2010 at 11:46 am
would anyone buy this phone for $80 with a 2 year contract, when you can buy the 9700 for $100 with a 2 year contract?
Five0nIt Aug 30, 2010 at 11:46 am
What's the retail on a $79.00 phone on contract? 199?
cl8baller Aug 30, 2010 at 12:25 pm
When will T-Mo get the Pearl 3G, would be great to see a North American carrier get their hands on one.
dxtx Aug 30, 2010 at 1:19 pm
This phone isn't all that bad. It does only weigh 104g for example.
If you want all the bells and whistles you buy a Bold or a Torch, but if you want a basic smart phone that doesn't weigh much, then this is a viable option.
I would of course prefer a 104g smart phone that had a 5 MP camera with flash, a better screen, etc. Yes I know there is the Pearl 3G which only weighs 93g, but that has a tiny screen and a suretype keyboard.
smokn_72 Aug 30, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Nice too know, but what I want is the Torch!
hybrobro Aug 30, 2010 at 2:33 pm
Really, who wants a low budget, low specs,bb?I ask everyone that I see with a curve(8520/8530)what apps they use. They go huh! I just got it cause it,s free at walmart, and it plays music, and people think I'm smart!Rim is becoming a joke on the mobile market. All the hype about the torch,it looks like cheap cricket phone. The clamshell is ugly, and what 9700 owner is going to kick out 500$ for a 9780.C'MOM RIM!Finally tmobile stop dropping the ball, and letting att get the good phones first. By the time u offer them,it's outdated allready!(Off my soapbox)

The bashing of the 8500 series is fucking ridiculous, so the fuck what if its not a Bold or Torch, its still a blackberry that functions perfectly well. I love my Curve & if you don't like it then don't pay it attention, I don't like the 9700 but I'm not bashing its shit like quality compared to an Iphone or to a Android. By the way, my Curve has multiple apps running on my Curve. Twitter, Facebook, Pandora Radio, Ebay, Weather.

based on what?
li2327 Aug 31, 2010 at 12:09 am
I got my Bold 9700 for Tmobile for 48.88 at Wal-Mart. Might as well go for that instead of a Curve.
osutuba Aug 31, 2010 at 4:53 pm
Would love to know where YOU'RE located. I went to my local Wal-Mart recently and when I was looking at the phones they asked if I was interested in getting one. I told them I was with T-Mobile and they said, "Yeah, about that ... we don't have phones with them. Sorry."
