The BlackBerry Classic is the third physical keyboard BlackBerry 10 device. Announced at MWC 2014, the BlackBerry Classic brings back the classic trackpad and function keys that we haven't yet seen on BlackBerry 10 devices. It joins the Q5 and Q10 in the QWERTY line of BlackBerry 10 devices. The BlackBerry Classic is set to launch on December 17th 2014 at events held in New York, Frankfurt and Singapore.
The wait is over. The BlackBerry Classic has now arrived, and it brings the promise of the speed and performance of BlackBerry 10 with the familiar and classic navigation keys you know and love. All that in a package that is 'designed from the ground up to meet the needs of productive people who appreciate the speed and accuracy that can only be found with a physical QWERTY keyboard'.
It's a device purposefully built to be reliable, durable, made with high-quality materials, and that delivers on quality and fits neatly in your pocket. From the official announcement of its eventual release back in February at Mobile World Congress 2014 to now, many folks have been waiting for the BlackBerry Classic and now that it's here, it's time to take a look and see if it delivers on all those points.

If you're a Vodafone customer in the UK I bring you both good news and bad. The company dropped me a quick email to advise that they would indeed be stocking the new BlackBerry Classic in early January, but only for business customers.

BlackBerry Classic pre-orders sold out in North America
The BlackBerry navigation keys and trackpad are so popular that Shop BlackBerry has announced that the BlackBerry Classic is sold out of its pre-order inventory in North America ahead of a scheduled launch this month. According to BlackBerry's online shop, the $449 smartphone is expected to be re-stocked sometime in early January 2015. The device is still listed as being in-stock for other regions, including the U.K., France, and Germany.
Personally, I'd still like to see a REAL classic version of Brick Breaker arrive on BlackBerry 10, perhaps with more added levels but the re-imagined version does still bring some nostalgia into the mix which is awesome. I'm a sucker for nostalgia.

BlackBerry lays out the features of the BlackBerry Classic camera
For those of us already using a BlackBerry 10 device, the features of the camera built into the OS are no surprise. However, for the BlackBerry Classic, BlackBerry is expecting to grab some customers who might not have yet used a BlackBerry 10 device such as those still using a Bold 9900 or other BlackBerry OS devices and might not know which features are offered on the platform. To help introduce some of them, Donny over at the Inside BlackBerry blog has given a run down of the features that will be coming with the BlackBerry Classic camera.

BlackBerry preparing new accessories for Passport and Classic
When the BlackBerry Passport was announced, it was noted to be coming with a rich ecosystem of accessories and while BlackBerry has thus far done a good job of getting the basics out such as the hard shell case, screen protectors as well as the leather flip case, that's pretty much where it has ended. That seems to be changing though as some new accessories for both the Passport and Classic have started to appear such as OEM charging docks and leather swivel holsters, some of which are available right now and for pre-order in our own Shop CrackBerry Canada store.

Bell to carry the BlackBerry Classic in Canada
Although it might seem rather obvious given their budget brand, Virgin Mobile, has started taking pre-orders at Best Buy we now know Bell is gearing up to sell the BlackBerry Classic directly as well. If you head on over to the Bell site and search for the device, you'll be taken to a 'coming soon' page, though it offers very few details and still lacks any pricing structure.

Vodafone Germany now taking pre-orders for the BlackBerry Classic
If you live in Germany and have been wondering whether or not Vodafone would be carrying the BlackBerry Classic there's now a definite answer for you and it's, yes. If you head on over to their website right now, you will find they've started taking pre-orders for the device with scheduling showing shipments will be sent out somewhere around mid-December (Going out on a limb here and saying Dec. 17th) for those who order.

Pre-release BlackBerry Classic gets reviewed ahead of December 17th launch
A few days ago I was digging through Twitter and came across an account which showed off a pre-release version of the BlackBerry Classic. As there wasn't a whole lot of information to go along with it, I simply retweeted the tweet with the BlackBerry Classic and posted the images in the forums. Since then, the individual behind the account has been answering questions about the device for folks asking but has now posted up a rather simple review for everyone based on that pre-release hardware.

Pre-order the BlackBerry Classic SIM free in the UK
We posted a short while ago that the forthcoming BlackBerry Classic was available to pre-order from ShopBlackBerry, but it now looks like the device is now available to also pre-order from a UK independent retailer.
Unlocked-Mobiles have added the BlackBerry Classic to their site this week and it comes with a price tag of £339.98 including VAT which seems very reasonable if you ask me.
They don't yet have a shipping date available, but we're still looking at mid December if all goes to plan.
The keyboard on the BlackBerry Classic, as you may have noticed, is reminiscent of the trusted (and imitated) BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard found on the still-popular (and available) BlackBerry Bold 9900. I've read in recent comments that many of you are still huge fans of the Bold, and still cling to it and similar devices, like the BlackBerry Curve, to make your real work happen[. We are listening, as John Chen explained earlier this month.
The great news for you is, in addition to the easy, familiar navigation made possible by the Classic Navigation Keys, the QWERTY keyboard comes with time-saving default shortcuts. Take advantage of these, or customize them to suit your personal needs. As you once could on your beloved BlackBerry Bold, you can make use of nearly every letter in the physical keyboard and give it an action like Speed Dial for a contact, or use them to launch your most-used apps.
On top of showing how the shortcut keys will work on the BlackBerry Classic, Donny also shared some of his favorite shortcuts and advanced tips for the device. Truth be told, a lot of them work on already available BlackBerry 10 QWERTY devices such as the BlackBerry Passport and the BlackBerry Q10 but, some of them only come by way of running leaked operating systems so they may not be known to everyone and as such, the BlackBerry Classic could be their first experience with using them.

BlackBerry 10.3.1 Native SDK goes gold, Developer OS 10.3.1.997 now available
The BlackBerry Classic is well on its way and to ensure developers can have their apps ready for it, BlackBerry has now released the gold release of the BlackBerry 10.3.1 Native SDK along with a new developer OS (OS 10.3.1.997) for all devices.
You can hit Twitter now or head on over to the mosaic site to add yourself if you wish, right now. Additionally, if you've used any of those hashtags previously you can also search for (and find your spot) on the mosaic already. It's a fun thing to be involved in and although BlackBerry doesn't directly say it, I'm guessing they might feature it at the launch event. Maybe show people adding themselves in real time? That'd be sweet.
Is everybody ready? Today is the day for the BlackBerry Classic launch in NYC, Frankfurt and Singapore and you can tune into all the action as it happens both here in our live blog and via the streaming link at the BlackBerry Live events website. Settle in, kick back, have some fun and wait for things to get rolling. The event FULLY kicks off at 10AM EST but we'll be opening the chat up around...

February 25th, 2014 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. That's when BlackBerry announced they would be releasing a keyboard phone with the classic trackpad and function keys, better known at that time as the BlackBerry Q20. Since then, the device has gone through a bit of a branding change, arguably for the better, thanks to BlackBerry Executive Chairman and CEO John Chen and it will be...

Ah, Brick Breaker. The classic game that came pre-loaded on BlackBerry smartphones for years was a favorite time waster for many but when BlackBerry 10 arrived, it was left behind. Eventually, it was re-imagined for BlackBerry 10 and released into BlackBerry World but without trackpad navigation controls it just wasn't the same. Now though, with the upcoming arrival of the BlackBerry Classic,...

Although we had an idea the BlackBerry Classic would also be coming in white, thanks to the accessories arriving in the Shop CrackBerry Canada store giving us a side view of the device, we've now gotten a front on look at a media render of it thanks to the folks over at N4BB.
At this point, there's no telling when exactly BlackBerry plans to release the white version, after all, the pre-...
