Well folks, with WES coming up in May it was bound to get out at some point in time considering it's expected RIM will announce the existence of 5.0 OS at the Florida event held by RIM. With that being said, I really cannot recommend this OS for any long term use - it's not as stable one would hope it too be, some applications don't work after install and device reboots will happen. This feels more Alpha then Beta (or let's just call it early stage OS 5.0), so I suggest looking around, checking it out and reverting back to a more stable OS.
Also if you look at this thread there are plenty of signs of the 8900 version floating around as well.
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Why does every blog post on this site end in one (or sometimes -- multiple) exclamation points? STOP YELLING AT ME!

From what I saw of the preview, the small amount of changes doesn't warrant a version change. This is still version 4 software and an insult to our intelligence calling it 5.0 when its maybe 4.6.2. Rim is really starting to take lessons from Apple make a point release and call it a whole new OS.
I will hope someone who is actually going to bother loading this up can tell us the drastic new changes.

My understanding is that they're doing it to bring all devices into the same major and minor versions. Rather than have most on 4.5, the Bold on 4.6.0, 8900 on 4.6.1 and Storm on 4.7.0, and others elsewhere. Making it 4.8 would feel like the Storm people got shafted, since they only get a .1 increase while everyone else gets a .2 or even .3 increase. But 5.0 is a "big" jump for everyone.
That said, I hope they take your view and add some huge new feature that blows the socks off the iPhone and others. I'd love for them to be unable to deny that my BB is better :D

I found one potential awesome feature. Someone in the forums said they noticed a "gears settings" option in the browser. Could they be bringing Google Gears to the BB?

Wheres the Storm with a OS 5.0? not to mention waiting for an official os, this is truly getting out of hand.. this makes me just wait for the niagara 9630 and give up on the storm, but the storm has the potential to be a better phone once VZW and RIM decide to stop drinking and getting drunk at the job letting canadian and european carriers like BELL, hutchison, etisalat and others passing them releasing storm official Os before them......what gives?
GILPAULSEN Apr 10, 2009 at 10:57 am
I feel like our official release is coming in the next few days . Cross your fingers fellow 9530 owners!!!!!

anyone else have a missing internet browser problem? I tried the host routing tables and still nothing! arrrg!
Eric3TBA Apr 10, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. The BB Browser isn't there...just Media Net. Anybody know how to fix that?
jtwebfusion Apr 10, 2009 at 8:38 pm
I have one launcher that is configured for "Hotspot" and the other is wap set to "Media Net". Good to go...
....... Apr 10, 2009 at 9:03 pm
my desktop manager wont detect the 5.0 software i dont get it ......does my bold have to be unlocked to install it?
randall2580 Apr 13, 2009 at 12:28 am
Could not use messaging apps, couldn't even find AIM at all. When I tried to access sd card always resulted in a reset. Not at all stable. Seems to me BB has a lot of work to do with this one.
chuygonzalez Apr 17, 2009 at 10:30 am
A very soon release of 5.0...it still has so many bugs. So I had to downgrade to 4.6
Some of the issues I noticed in a one day test were:
Unable to play videos
No facebook
No live msn
No internet browser
But the menus have been improved, Storm-like and thats good. I´ll wait for the next release of this upgrade and I´m sure it will be better.
Have a nice day!

So I remember way back in the day with Cingular not allowing the use of Yahoo IM. So the work around is to update you BB with T-Mobile Service books to load Yahoo IM app. then reregister the BB on the Cingular network to get web access. Sooo I wonder if any one knows how to pull the service books from the 4.6OS loaded on the pc and add them through third party app loader, like in the old days to get are Fix blackberry-abilities
Hgh May 5, 2009 at 6:27 am
