With Vodafone recently showing a sneak peak of the BlackBerry Bold 9900, it is only natural that other carriers follow along - this time it is SFR to introduce the BlackBerry Bold 9900 in France. And to top it off, SFR has also announced the upcoming availability of the BlackBerry PlayBook!

No details on release date or pricing, but it is fair to estimate that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 will retail for what the BlackBerry Torch did when it was released. The BlackBerry PlayBook on the other hand will likely go for 479€, as in the Netherlands. As both the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry PlayBook find their ways to other countries and markets, it is probably a safe bet to say that this is just the beginning of a new era for RIM. Do you think the same? Chime in on the comments!

For more information, check out the SFR homepage at blackberry.sfr.fr/BlackBerry

uummm... why don't we have a release date for this phone? Does it strike anyone else insanely retarded to be doing all this advertising and not have a date nailed down? baffles me....

"a new era for RIM"..... maybe in the sense that rather than slowly falling behind in market share they could actually rapidly plummet. Just my own opinion... but i have a feeling that iMessages, even though it won't actually compare to bbm... is gonna really really hurt RIM... why? because Apple is gonna run with it.... and we all know how good Apple is at convincing the masses that their products are best... even though in many areas they fall short... iMess will be a slam dunk for Apple.

Haha, funny take on the matter :)

As far as iMessage, I personally am very excited about it! The very reason it does not require a BlackBerry data plan (and can operate solely on Wi-Fi) is a huge bonus for me. At the end of the day, all I use my phone for is to keep in touch with friends and family. So if there is a way to minimize communication costs, then I'm all for it! This is where iMessage looks promising, but I do hope that RIM "steps it up" and makes BBM either cross-platform OR allows BlackBerry smartphones to function without BIS/BES. Just my 0.02€.

Peace,
Yousif

I can wait for this device to hit the US! I don't care what Carrier gets it first because I will be in the line waiting for it, I'm hoping for late June/Early July. We all know RIM is aware of Crackberry (they even mention us on there website), so you would think they have a team of people that watch our Forums and comments. So to the person from RIM who might read this, please release the Bold 9900 this summer because we all are ready! Thank you.
