BlackBerry App World: Got Questions About It? RIM Wants To Hear Em!

A new blog post went up yesterday over at the Inside BlackBerry blogs. It may be of a lot of interest to those among us here in the BlackBerry community. RIM wants to hear all the questions you have about BlackBerry App World.

Inside BlackBerry writer and Product Manager, BlackBerry App World Alex. K has stepped up to the plate to address what is the first part of what I assume, is many articles regarding BlackBerry App World. Ever since the launch of BlackBerry App World there have been some questions which have remained unanswered -- be sure to check it out if you have any that you would like to see addressed.

I have a Storm 9550. It has happened to me two times already. When I uninstall any third party applications and reboot my phone App World disappears, and I have to install it again. I'm not sure if it has happened to anyone else, but this is the problem I have with it at this moment.

Is that "Bucket of Truth" wallpaper found in the CB wallpaper gallery?

The most important thing to me is simplifying updates. Every app downloaded through App World, including App World itself should notify you immediately when an update is available and prompt you to update with a single button press. It's ludacrous that App World takes up a spot on it's own Top 25 Free because it isn't prompting people to update or auto-updating.

I agree 100%. I don't understand how that type of function wasn't included from the get go, let alone to this point.

Another thing they should have is an easily accessible suggestion box that goes right back to the app creators.

But I think what it really needs most is a built in type of interface that allows the users to correct any issues there may be with the applications.

I have to admit i didn't like app world at first it felt a little cheesy but i knew it would take some time to fix the kinks and all but i have been noticing a lot of little improvements each update and god knows it not close to perfect yet but i feel it has come along way and i am sure it will be something that is just as good or better than apples app store. i have notice a few apps that are pretty cool and are FREE but again i know its going to take time to build app world.

WHY DOESNT IT WORK ON MY 8330 WITH OS 5.0.0.230!!!!!!!!!!!!

By: yeahboyyy | Date: Sat, 10/31/2009 - 20:49

Co freakin' sign. Ridiculous and RIM continues to fail with App World and the 8330. I'm hoping it will work with the official 5.0, but I'm not holding my breath.

I tried to post a comment to [1] but it fails. Anybody seeing the same behavior?

yea i tried too, and no go :(, i mean it wouldnt be so bad if they werent after feedback!! no themes stupidly high starting prices and now no list totals in category mode (which it started off with) make it a fail for me, the cb app store is far better, and as a theme designer i can actually reach my audience on their own blackberrys too

also anyone else like how the artilce was on the 30th this month, thats yesterday yea, so why say .20 has just been released when .23 was released today and .20 a fair while ago! if they dont know what versions they pump out, then what hope do they have (harsh, but true)

My (intended) comment was along the lines of:

"What about making the AppWorld BB app useful for managing on-device apps regardless of how they were downloaded?"

The example I gave was Slacker radio - the AW version is something like 2.0.2 while the latest version, the one I have installed, is 2.0.52. Its confusing that AW tells me that slacker is archived, but Options->Advanced->Applications knows I'm running 2.0.52.

I'd be curious what people think about that direction; it would require some cooperation from the app vendors but seems doable. But I'm very much a newbie on the BBs, so I may be missing key issues.

BTW, since I hope I can post my note later when they fix the problem, I captured it at [1]. "BlackBerryFish" is a blog with just 1 reader (me), so this is just a "note to self" :-). I started writing BBF a couple of months ago after I bought my Tour at VRZN to help me track my BB experience.

But there NEEDS to be more QUALITY apps.

By: daveastra | Date: Sun, 11/01/2009 - 05:24

while i agree id like to see more apps, i disagree with what you say, it IS their fault, their entry level cost is too high and they wont allow things like themes, just look at cb app store and themes and you`ll see what im talking about, massive downloads from there, so it is their fault, and they NEED to drop the entry level price to $0.99 like pretty much all other app stores, before it becomes a forgotten sidelined product from rim

By: mrlewisohn | Date: Sat, 10/31/2009 - 16:53

how do i get that kind of theme that was posted in the picture above?? i NEED it!!!!

Are we ever going to get a different method of payment other than Payscum(paypal)? They are big scammers and many people will not open accounts with them because of their bad service.

A work inprogress . . . . but smaller and faster is all i needed to hear. . . but . . . . Are there any plans to include a "what's new section". . . . . that would make navigation for us new ish junkies!!!

RIM GET YOUR GAME UP!!!!!!! App world needs a face lift and dam near all the games succcccckkkkkkkk. Most of my real cool apps have had no association with the app world and are free. App world does have a similar version for a high ass price. Really?.....do something...anything

By: cfoxx | Date: Mon, 11/02/2009 - 07:48

My question to RIM (because the registration on their official blog won't work):

Why do you charge developers so much to have their application in the AppWorld, and do you think the high price is responsible for the AppWorld's lack of free games and novelty applications? Why do you restrict the potential appeal of AppWorld by forcing the developers of novelty applications and games to charge for their content; the equivalent of which is free on the iPhone.
