New This Week

Law and Order for BlackBerryLaw & Order: Celebrity Betrayal

Law & Order fans, your dream game is here! Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal plays through an entirely original storyline. Take carge and investigate scenes, interact with the cast members, and follow up with leads to solve the case. You will recognize the characters Lieutenant Anita Van Buren and Executive ADA Jack McCoy. Immerse yourself in the case, gather evidence, make the case, and then try your luck in court. Are you ready to try and solve the murder of an international pop star?

You can pick up Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal for $4.99 until May 19th. It's available for the Curve series, 88xx series, Pearl series and the Bold.

Parking Jam for BlackBerryParking Jam

If you enjoy a good puzzle game, Parking Jam is a new app that may peak your interest. It's the old classic, you know, move the cars around in the parking lot in such a way so that you can drive your car out of the lot. Basically 'untangle' the cars to free your car is what I'm trying to say here :) The app comes with 60 exciting missions, each one increasing slightly in difficulty. If you need a puzzle game to kill those few idle minutes around the office, Parking Jam is worth a look.

Parking Jam is available for the Storm, and the Curve, 87xx and  88xx series for $6.95. Get it here.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine Pocket Guide to SpiritsWine Enthusiast Magazine Pocket Guide to Spirits

It's Friday, time for a drink... right? For those times when you're shopping for a bottle of wine, liquor, or anything else, this app will very much come in handy. It comes complete with essential information on the world's most popular drinks, how to store and serve them, plus mixing directions for the '12 ultimate cocktails'. There's also a handy glossary of terms within, and a guide that shows you how to go about tasting drinks for the ultimate experience. All you need here is 500K of free memory to pop this bad-boy on your Berry.

You can get the Wine Enthusiast Magazine Pocket Guide to Spirits for $7.95.

IM and SMS Glossary for BlackBerryIM and SMS Glossary

This very handy and useful glossary connects you with access to over 1,100 words, phrases and expressions. If you do a lot of messaging, this is pretty much the ultimate guide. Save time by selecting words and phrases via the easy to use scrolling menus. You might even discover some new IM shorthand while you're at it. Check it out would ya? TTYL...

The IM and SMS Glossary is on sale for $2.99 until June 10th.

tonePad for BlackBerry StormtonePad

This one is actually a freebie for the Storm users out there... Didn't want to include it in the 'freebie of the week' as there were a few grumblings about last weeks' selection :) That said, all of the Storm users out there might get a kick out of this one. In a nutshell tonePad generates tones and colorful circles on your device. It's sure to infuriate co-workers, but on the positive side I think it might actually keep a youngster occupied for a few minutes. Tones, colorful circles, what's not to like?

You can pick up tonePad for free.

Shazam

Shazam for BlackBerry

Ever wonder what that song was you just heard on the radio? Shazam is an awesome little app that I actually use quite often. When you hear a song that you want more info on, simply hold your Berry up to the music, and Shazam will listen in. Shazam is deadly accurate, and while I must admit I've ran into issues with the app returning no results... Overall the results are fantastic. Key features of the App as described by Shazam:

Identify music anywhere: from the radio, TV, film, or in a store by simply holding your BlackBerry smartphone towards the music and selecting 'Tag Now'.

Buy music immediately when you hear it: your tags link directly to Amazon, and other merchants as available, to give you instant access to the music you love and related music merchandise. The current BlackBerry Shazam app just lets you order the CDs from Amazon, but hopefully soon you'll be able to buy and download MP3s directly to your BlackBerry.

Share the experience: send your tags to friends who share your musical taste via SMS, email or BlackBerry PIN messaging.

Learn more about the music: read track and album reviews, artist biographies and (starting in North America initially) view song lyrics, plus find other music available from the same artist.

Options to find similar music: discover other music similar to the track you like, to enhance your music collection and knowledge.

Find out what's hot and popular: access to Shazam music charts generated by millions of other users in your country.

Music search capabilities: enabling you to easily find music by artist, album or track from a database with over 8 million songs.

Shazam is available for a free trial period in App World. After the trial expires the app still runs for free, but you'll have limits on functionality including a max of five song tags per month. Still very much worth a look.

Freebie of the Week

BBGPS Golf

BBGPS Golf for BlackBerry

I have to mention this, because I've clearly got golf on the brain. Weather is finally nice enough up here that the courses are opening, and I'm starting to get back into the 'swing' of things when I can. BBGPS is a free BlackBerry GPS golf app for all of the golfers out there. You'll need a GPS enabled Berry to get it working, and OS 4.3 or newer. Tons of features are built into this app, and for a freebie, it's really not that shabby at all. The key features as outlined by the developers at BB GPS Golf:

  • When you mark a shot you can upload your shot stats to the web sites online database
  • RMS Database that will keep all of your options
  • Search for the courses so you dont have to download the full course database. This will help save on bandwidth and help increase the speed on the BlackBerry
  • Only download courses in your country
  • You can add new golf courses online
  • After you add a golf course online it is available to download on the BlackBerry
  • You can Mark your current location on the BlackBerry to tell you how far you hit a golf shot
  • You can change between meters and yards for the distance on the BlackBerry
  • You can see your current Latitude and Longditue, and you can see the Latitude and Longditue for any marked items
  • View your speed in KMH or MPH
  • You can view the any of the locations via clicking the Google Maps like when viewing a course
  • Ability to add a location while playing a round of golf on the BlackBerry to update the database the next time the course is downloaded
  • Ability to update a location while playing a round of golf on the BlackBerry
  • Ability to add, and mark a new golf course with the BlackBerry

If you're planning to hit the links over the weekend, might not be a bad idea to give this one a test drive. You can pick up BBGPS Golf at ShopCrackBerry.com for free.

Rumored BlackBerry App

Nine Inch Nails App for BlackBerry

Nine Inch Nails App for BlackBerry

You may have read Bla1ze's post the other day about Trent Reznor and the NIN app making its way to the BlackBerry platform. Seems that the band is working on new editions for BlackBerry AND Android, to go along with their already successful iPhone application. The app will be free to download, and it should be good if you're a fan of the band. I only hope that RIM and Google approve the app straight away, as I wouldn't want another app inclusion debacle. NiN had a little trouble getting through the front door in the Apple App Store last time around... I have a feeling all of the trash talking Reznor did will encourage RIM and Google to welcome the new app with open arms when it arrives. Stay tuned. :)

Until Next Week..

BlackBerry App Roundup for May 15th, 2009!

I search for it in the app store and no return. I went in through catagories under music and video its not their either. Can someone let me know if they find it.

program description said: "Compatible with the Bold 9000, Curve 83xx, Pearl 8220, 8900 Javelin, 81xx and 88xx, please note Shazam on the Storm is coming soon."

just download it and go to options>>advanced>>applications>>highlight shazamm and hit the berry button. after that hit edit permissions - change all to allow.

if you want the suretype stuff to go away just click on disable compatablity mode as well, but you will only be able to tag songs, no other option.

think you made a mistake on the flashlite in your last sentence. It wont color your trackball, unless youre talking about lite up. Maybe if you are using pearl, who knows...lol And my wife has storm and has shazam. I think she got it from a thread in the storm forum to all you looking. Hope this helps.

Somehow I bet the NIN app cleared BB testing without even a breath of delay. Jobs is a tight ass who needs to get out more.
