Happy March, everyone! Another great week here at CrackBerry, as per usual. Lots of good stuff to talk about, including 25 free copies of 'BlinkWhileCall' from Fabian Heuwieser to give away. Covered this week in the App Roundup are the following titles:
Giveaway of the Week: BlinkWhileCall
Freebies of the Week: Sid Meier's Pirates 'Lite', BatteryWatch, PayPal for BlackBerry
In Case You Missed It: Viper SmartStart Now Available for BlackBerry, Tungle Looking for Beta Testers, VQ Mileage Tracker
New This Week: Count Down, FitDeck Pilates, Radical Draw
Cool at BlackBerry App World: iShoot
Note: Don't forget, you can always search for titles featured in the App Roundup within App World... Some apps mentioned may be available there for your device.
Giveaway of the Week:

This week our bud Fabian Heuwieser stepped up to the plate again to offer one of his apps for free. Well, 25 copies that is. BlinkWhileCall is a small app that modifies your LED light to blink bright purple when you receive a call. This helps you notice an incoming call if you've got your device on silent... Sometimes the default LED notification is a little too dark for some to notice! The app installs with no hassle... once installed, you're good to go. No configuration needed... All you'll need to do is disable the repeat notification when an incoming call comes in (go to profiles > change active profile > disable blinking LED). Also of importance, this one works on the Storm series, Bold series, Curve series and Pearl Flip running OS 4.6+.
If you'd like to enter for your chance to win one of 25 free copies
of BlinkWhileCall, answer the following question in the comments:
How many calls per day do you think BlinkWhileCall will keep you from missing?
Leave your answer in the comments now... Good luck!
Freebies of the Week:
No joke, I used to play this game on my old Commodore 64. Was an awesome game, and still is. The good folks at Concrete Software have brought this classic title to the BlackBerry, and in their 'Lite' version you can play it for free. Granted, it's a demo so you'll get limited gameplay... But if you remember this game and want to give it a spin, there's no better way than with a free trial. Battle in hand-to-hand combat, fire cannon balls at enemy ships, and plunder their gold! Good times!
Check out Sid Meier's Pirates 'Lite' in App World >
BatteryWatch is a very simple app from S4BB that lets you easily monitor/check the following details:
- Battery Level
- Battery Status
- Battery Temperature
- Battery Voltage
- Device Name
- Device PIN
No crazy requirements needed here... it should work just fine on all BlackBerry devices... as long as you're running OS 4.0 and higher... and yes, it should work just fine and dandy on the Storm series.
Pick up BatteryWatch for free >
Bring a whole lot of PayPal functionality to your BlackBerry device. Send money to friends, family or anyone else for that matter, providing they have a PayPal address. There's even integration with your contact list to make sending the cash quick and easy. 23 currencies are supported, and you can use it to check your balance and account history. Not too much more to say about this one, if you're familiar with PayPal and use it a lot, this may be worth the install... Could make your life a little easier when sending out payments.
Check out PayPal in App World >
In Case You Missed It...
Just in case you missed these titles, below are some apps that were covered in the CrackBerry Blogs this past week. Check 'em out!
Well, it's here! Back in January we first got word that Viper SmartStart would be coming forward with a new app for BlackBerry. The app would allow you to start your car, turn your alarm on and off, and more. Some time has passed, and the whole 'system' is available for purchase, starting at a MSRP of $299. At launch, Viper SmartStart is compatible with the Bold 9700, Tour 9630, Curve 8900, the Storm2 9530, Storm2 9520, and Storm 9500.
All details are available at viper.com/BlackBerry
To download OTA hit up the following link from your Berry's browser:
http://www.viper.com/SmartStart/BlackBerry/Download/Viper.jad
Tungle is a new online scheduling service... the goal of the service is to help you get the most out of your time. Call it the productivity tool you never knew you needed :) If you have time management issues, this is an almost must-have, and at the very least, a 'must check out'. At any rate, Tungle is looking for Beta testers, so if you want to give it a spin send an email to bb AT tungle DOT com with your BlackBerry model and OS info.
For more info on Tungle, hit up their website >
New from Xpressions Inc, VQ Mileage tracker is a new business app for BlackBerry that lets you (automatically) track your business mileage, time and dates. The app uses GPS in combination with Bluetooth to determine when you start and end your tip... And of course, it tracks you along the way. This is extremely handy if you need to put together monthly expense reports for your boss, or if you simply want to bill clients appropriately for time and distance traveled.
VQ Mileage Tracker is available now for $6.99, and a free trial is available. Check it out in our store.
New This Week

Count Down is exactly what you'd expect it to be... a countdown timer. Enter the event name and the date/time of the event, and Count Down displays the number of days, hours, and minutes until the event. If you're gearing up for that well deserved vacation, preparing for exams, or maybe you don't want to forget about that upcoming birthday... Count Down can help you out. All that is required here is OS 4.5+. Sorry, no Storm compatibility with this one.
Check out Count Down right here >

FitDeck Pilates is an ideal companion for anyone into Pilates. Use it to stay motivated, relieve stress, improve your core strength, range of motion and more.
Key features of FitDeck Pilates:
- 50 simple, descriptive images and instructions
- System created by former Navy SEAL and ACE-certified trainer Phil Black
- Shuffle exercises to create virtually unlimited variety
- Variable intensity to suit all fitness levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)
...and of course, perhaps the best thing about Pilates... no equipment is required!
To get started with FitDeck Pilates, check it out in our store >

Radical Draw is a new touchscreen drawing app designed specifically for the Storm series. Draw on top of images in your device memory, or create your own custom works.
Key features of Radical Draw include:
- Draw lines shapes or text
- Select different colors and line weights
- Includes clip art to help those without artistic abilities create professional looking pictures.
- Rotate Pictures
- Email pictures directly from Radical Draw
The developers tell me an update is coming in the near future, an update that will feature new icon packs, MMS support, crop capabilities and much more.
Check out Radical Draw for more info >
Cool at BlackBerry App World:
Arriving in App World in late January, iShoot from Hands-On Mobile brings some classic 'Scorched Earth' style action to your BlackBerry. If you remember this old PC title, chances are you'll want to give this one a spin. The official description:
iShoot is an artillery combat game in which tanks blast each other with a wide range of high-powered weapons, from basic shells and cluster bombs to the world-destroying Shiva Bomb. Take aim against computer controlled opponents or hand off your phone with friends and play together. iShoot s constantly changing gameplay and multiplayer features will keep you playing for hours!
Granted, the pricing on this title is a little high at $6.99... But if you're into classic games, and Scorched Earth was one of your favorites... You may get your moneys worth.
Check out iShoot in App World >
Until Next Week..

ColeDaddy Mar 5, 2010 at 4:20 pm

I don't understand why I miss calls sometimes. My berry's always with me and regardless of the profile, I should know when people are calling and sometimes I can't get them. I'm not sure how this app helps, but if it does, it's an important one.

richw420 Mar 6, 2010 at 10:48 pm
Oh, and don't pick me for this app. Someone else could put more use to it rather than me. I have an app already that can set different colors for different people. And another app that I can set any color to incoming calls and colors for other types of things. (eg: text, email, im, etc.)
I hope the 25 people who get this actually deserve it. And are not the type of people who just want to win because it's possible and won't put any good use to it. Or someone who is financially stable enough to buy the app without thinking twice over it.
Still lovin' what your doing CB!
rxgadget Mar 6, 2010 at 10:58 pm

tyrytin Mar 7, 2010 at 11:05 am
Since I only have my S2 on Silent during work hours and given that most people know I'm at work and dont call it will probably keep me from missing only 1-2 calls per day. However, given the statement above these could be important calls.

I think I may be the worst phone answerer ever so BlinkWhileCall would probably help me actually notice a call (my phone is always set to vibrate), so I'm thinking maybe 4 calls on average.

I miss at least 4-6 calls per day because I'm not seeing these... this app would be a great asset to me!

I know this will keep me from missing every single solitary call... with the exception of my parents and the lady claiming to bare my child.
StunninW Mar 7, 2010 at 7:58 pm
BlinkWhileCall will keep me from missing 6-7 calls a day, and that's clutch!!
Blakemt96 Mar 7, 2010 at 8:12 pm

knuckl3s Mar 7, 2010 at 8:21 pm
Blink while call will make me not miss important calls from family members and even emergency calls. The red light is not more noticeable then a bright color like blue or purple etc. I notice my phone when the LCD light is blue. But that's only when my bluetooth is on. Maybe blink while call with change that for me so i don't have to miss anymore calls from no one.
